i think we'll see more of this as the wild rose goes through the election process..... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/stor...nse-friday.html ....i don't believe they'll win this election (much like the reform party in the beginning) but in the future you never know....and in herald apr 7 it notes how ms. smith will not discuss her personal view on abortion or conscience rights.....seems odd..... ....citizen initiatives?.....ummm isn't that why we elect people to govern?....state your policies and positions and carry them out during your term.....

Anybody Got Any Ideas
jimbow replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
andy rooney once said to hit the # pound repeatedly when you have an autodialer calling you. i do that. not sure if it really helps or not. the idea of keeping them on the line and then putting down the phone is a good one too although not sure it will really stop anything but it must be annoying on the other end. oh yeah andy also said to on mail solicitations to use the prepaid postage envelope to send the solicitation letter back to the sender - i usually write on the ask letter "stop sending me unwanted solicitations or i will never donate to your cause again." i do that regularly and am finding less solicitations by mail too. sometimes i give certain charities breaks (et. kids cancer) but not many. -
Under Floor Heating
jimbow replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
on a larger scale on our major reno we busted out the basement floor and repoured it with in floor heating. we sometimes barely need the furnace running to heat the upstairs. it is fabulous and if i were building new i would do the whole house that way. -

and us long suffering flames fan will have an AB team to cheer for. funny how when i was much younger i hated the oilers but since both teams have been, shall we say not playing up to par, i've had no problem cheering on the oilers except when they play the flames. they are pretty fun to watch with the young talented guys.... -
The Otters Are Coming - The Otters Are Coming
jimbow replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
last weekend i saw a pair of what i believed to be mink on the bow river. is it possible they were otters? they were pretty small from the quick look i got at them and based on my extensive research on wikipedia they must have been mink as otters are pretty big. was cool to see them although they are probably eating lots of small fish too..... -
i realize this is a fly fishing board but i think the problem of etiquette and lack of consideration is simply widespread through our me-me-me, i want it now society......pretty much any activity from fishing to hiking to hunting to driving to shopping to.....well you get the idea.....

we used jay's for our office move in october. all went well with the normal banging into walls you'd expect from movers. no real issues.

leaders of the bruins? chara, lucic, bergeron, recchi, horton, krejci. the bruins have euros too but it's more a question of whether the euros are soft or not and what is the role of the euros on the team? kaberle on the bruins (who didn't do himself any favours in the playoffs as a UFA looking for a new contract) i would call soft but not the rest of the bruins' euros. on the canucks i wouldn't call erhoff or edler soft but the sedins, though skilled, are very soft and always have been. they won't win the cup as the go to guys....they can be intimidated and shut down in a 7 game series. to get shut down offensively by the other team's checkers is one thing but to give up 4 goals in a game 7 for the the cup? soft is an understatement. their role is to carry the team and be the go to guys. they have not been able to fufill that role in any season yet. the bettman booing was hilarious - didn't seem to bother him though, he just smiled and opened his piehole to start talking - when you're a weasel you know you're not liked. i remember the same thing in detroit 2 years ago when pittsburgh won. don't really remember it last year in chicago though but maybe it happened. but you could hardly hear him speak over the booing.....i was laughing the whole time.... the rioting was a shameful.....vancouver likely lost all of its olympic goodwill that night.....hard to believe that people could be so thoughtless and stupid. smashing/burning cars is one thing but to smash and loot stores....wow.....stupid doesn't even come close to what it was....i was on the red mile after game 7 in 2004 for a while to check it out and saw nothing that was bad, not even a fight, although i wasn't there all night so s&^% could have happened but i don't recall much going on other then people pissing all over the place and throwing garbage on the streets....why would it be so different?.....are the young people (as most seemed young on tv) that much different there than here? -

i think kipper would be good trade bait too.....except for his damn contract (although cap hit is $5.833M and cash over next 3yrs is $6.0, $5.0 and $1.5 so maybe not completely immoveable).....the trend is now to low paid goalers and teams have had good success with that strategy.....on the other hand he continues to play very well and keeps the flames in a lot of games (and steals a few)....whereas a forward or defenceman can't have nearly the same impact game in game out......i'd say Jay Feaster has a lot of work ahead of him...... -

yeah i think we've got a lot of trouble.....need to bust the team up if you can with the stupid contracts that sutter handed out over the years.....i think iginla is a great player and i like him a lot on our team but they should have traded him this year while he has value or at least in the off season prior to the draft but he'll only go where he wants to go not to a low finishing team with no future.....and others too.....hard to believe that there's 11 players on the flames with no trade clauses.....usually think of those as only for "stars" and there sure as hell ain't 11 stars on the flames.....big sigh....i think we've got at least couple years of frustration yet to go...... -

ok you made me look (ok i just googled it). don't you think all 4 criteria were met on the penalty so that a penalty shot should have been awarded? Following is from the nhl rule book online: "There are four (4) specific conditions that must be met in order for the Referee to award a penalty shot for a player being fouled from behind. They are: (i) The infraction must have taken place in the neutral zone or attacking zone, (i.e. over the puck carrier’s own blue line); (ii) The infraction must have been committed from behind; (iii) The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the puck) must have been denied a reasonable chance to score (the fact that he got a shot off does not automatically eliminate this play from the penalty shot consideration criteria. If the foul was from behind and he was denied a “more” reasonable scoring opportunity due to the foul, then the penalty shot should be awarded); (iv) The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the puck) must have had no opposing player between himself and the goalkeeper." can't recall the play exactly but it seems to me that all 4 were met. which one(s) do you think weren't met? just curious as i said right at the time of the call penalty shot (even though admittedly didn't know the rules except for (iii)).
