Misterbig It was suggested to me by Brian Chan to use a Triple Surgeon's Knot to attach fluorocarbon to mono. A super strong knot for leader to leader connections. Instead of using the surgeons knot for making leader to leader connections, use a triple surgeons knot instead. To tie the knot: •place the long leader to your right and overlap the end some 3 inches along the leader to your left. •grasp the tag end and leader to your right and twist it into a loop in between your hands. •grasp the standing leader on your left and the loop in your left hand •using your fingers ,the end of your closed forceps or other tool, pull the tag end and free leader on your right through the loop three times •grasp the tag end and long piece of leader on your right in your right hand. Grasp the tag end and long leader on your left in your left hand •gently pull your hands in opposite directions to start seating the knot •wet the knot and tug in opposite directions to finish seating the knot. •trim loose tag ends close to the knot. (this small neat knot can be trimmed close without affecting the 100% break strength)

Take a look at Costco as well, good prices on deep cell batteries there. Russ C

I'll be there again this year along with my daughter (in the picture above kneeling next to the Hungarian Vizsla). We both had a good time, and she loved playing with all the dogs that came out. Russ C

If you would like to walk along the river and not see these individuals poaching then call Report A Poacher. Thats why it's there, make the call anytime you see someone breaking the rules, and most likely you won't see them again. Have your phone with you, take along a camera. If they leave get a picture of their auto and license plate and pass along the information to the CO. Please report the incident that you speak of below Cranston. The number for Report A Poacher is 1-800-642-3800 Russ C

I went down today to pick up my draw prize this morning from Hanson's ( a Filson vest ). Looks very nice and can't wait to try it out. Thanks again to the people that did the organization along with the sponsors for making the Bow River clean up such a great day. Russ C

Has anyone ever tossed a line in DisneyWorld. I've never been, and taking the family at the end of January for 10 day's and notice that you can fish right in the park. Looking for any feed back good or bad and anything else in the area that you would suggest? Thanks Russ C

Costco has a turntable that will record onto a CD or directly to your MP3. It is priced at $139.99 and is available in the stores or online. http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.aspx?P...topnav=&s=1 Russ C

I found myself downtown yesterday and some what close to Hanson's so after finding a parking spot (took about 20 minutes) I walked into their wonderful fly shop. I thought it important to drop in to say thanks for being a sponsor of the clean up. Then today I thought maybe all of us that were involved should either call or drop in and thank each sponsor. I think that it would be a nice gesture on all of our parts to thank them for making the event so special. What do you all think? Russ C

It shouldn't take a couple of weeks to replace a glass window?

Our group found (weirdest/most surprising) 3/4s of a mountain bike on the north side of the river almost across from policemans, a full bottle of hard lemonade. The most common things were the many bait containers and cigarette butts. But the most unique was a tie between a stubby beer bottle, and a license plate from Manitoba. A BIG THANK-YOU to the organizers and sponsors a wonderful job. As a side note my daughter said on the way home in the truck ----dad that was a real good day. Boy was she ever tired, between the long walk and picking up garbage to playing with the dogs that some of the participants brought she had a real good time. Thanks again Russ C

Bernie I know a few people (including myself) have purchased flies from an online company called Icky Fly Works. http://www.ickyflyworks.ca/catalog/index.php The quality seems good and very fast service. Give them a try I don't think that you will be disappointed. Best of luck Russ C

Country Pleasures http://countrypleasures.com/fly_fishing_seminars.htm and Fishtails http://www.fishtails.ca/news-seminars.htm have seminars on the weekends during the winter that are free to attend. As well Bow River Troutfitters have seminars on the weekends (I have never been as I live in the deep south end of the city) Alot of great information is shared at each seminar with participation from those that attend. Give them a call to see when they are going to start up again. You won't be sorry that you went, as there are alot of tricks and tips shared to make your home made flies look better. Best of luck Russ C

When I looked at Wholesale about a month ago they only had a couple of sizes (nothing that would fit my net) so that is why I called Fisknat then Brodin. Russ C

I tried to get a replacement net bag from Fisknat but they would not sell one to me as my net was not one of theirs. I was able to get a rubber replacement bag from Brodin Nets just by calling them. Here is the link http://brodin.com/Our%20Nets.html. (They even have a video showing how to attach the replacement bag). Give them a call they are in Costa Rica but send the net bag from the U.S. mainland. My cost including shipping was about $35.00 US for a rubber 10"x20" ghost (White) replacement bag. I am very happy with the purchase and it took about two and a half weeks for delivery. Good Luck Russ C

Quality Lake Fisheries Survey
RussC replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Don Thanks for bringing this up and all your hard work. Took the survey (only eight questions and very easy) everyone on this board should log on and take 5 minutes to make a difference. Maybe we all could actually be able to go to a lake close to home and have a chance to catch @ release a fish of a lifetime. Russ C -
I have a copy of a book called Lakes of Alberta Directory (special edition). It contains depth (hydrographic) charts of 202 game fish lakes for the province. I have had it for quite a few years so not sure if it is still available. But you could contact: Jerry & Suzanne Hennig Lakes of Alberta Directory Box 25 Site 4 RR2 Onoway, Alberta. Thoughts And Prayers For Jim Mclennan
RussC replied to NormanMcLean's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
All the best Jim, get well soon. Russ Carlson -
I do the same as bigbadbrent eye to eye with and improved clinch knot. Another way is to leave your tag end long and tie your second fly to it. Russ C

Duck Lake north of Creston has I believe largemouth bass, also Tie Lake, Baynes Lake, Jim Smith Lake all have bass in them. Lots of fun to catch, very good fighting fish for their size. Best of luck. Russ C

Just a question on taking pictures of flies, I have a Canon Powershot S3IS but am not able to get a clear picture of any flies. Would like to get some opinions on how I might be able to get a nice clear picture. Thanks Russ C
