eotr Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Here are a few of the reels that I've made over the past 10 years. Anyone else interested in making reels? 7 Quote
Conor Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Awesome work. I am interested, but struggling with the basic machining principals, so haven't taken that leap. I have made passable cap and ring reel seats, but the idea of multiple, large fitting parts is daunting. Quote
eotr Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Perfect style spey reel drum drag... Planetary gear multiplier trout reel... 7 Quote
Roast Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Very cool work Brent! You also need to start a thread on your cane rods;) 1 Quote
eotr Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Roast Good idea - anything to promote cane rods / silk lines / homemade reels is worth doing. 1 Quote
fruinincalgary Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Unreal! Im interested in buyin some of those bad boys! Where can i view em? Quote
fishinglibin Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 What??? Reels and Cane Rods. Shhving!!! Would love to see them Quote
eotr Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 Thanks for the kind comments guys - but - this is a hobby. 1 Quote
Muffin Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 That is really impressive, nicely done. Imagine it is pretty rewarding when you catch a big fish to see how the drag system works and landing it on a reel you built. Quote
eotr Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Yes - it is extremely rewarding. Here's a Taimen I caught on a click pawl reel a few years ago... There are plenty more but you get the idea 2 Quote
bcubed Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Is that the one you got on a hopper? I'm on the other side of the camera! Always loved your reels, but that day was just silly. Quote
eotr Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Bingo!! I haven't laughed so hard in years. Gana still talks about the rodeo. 8' 5piece cane rod / 6wt silk line / 3x tippet / #12 hopper. I still have the remains of the hopper and the 3x leader package tucked away in my memorabilia. You'll recognize your watch band in my screen saver... and in this grayling shot... 2 Quote
STACKS Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 nice work, did you make these on a manual machine , or a cnc ? if you did these in cnc , how did u program ? mastercam . or long hand g code? or mazatrol. have any experince with titanium? was a swiss screw machines used? Quote
eotr Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Stacks These were made on manual machines. I've always wanted a Haas Mini Mill and a CNC slant bed lathe but can't justify them for my shop. No swiss machines used although they would be great for the small repetitive parts like pillars. No titanium experience. Quote
eotr Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 I just picked up this gorgeous bridle leather case for one of my reels - compliments of Robert Cochrane - thanks Robert http://www.robertcochrane.com/ --> no commercial interest 1 Quote
eotr Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 This thread had been dormant for a long while - any other reel makers want to chime in? 7" rendition of the old Hardy Fortuna deep sea reel. This is an anti-reverse cork drag reel. Hardy actually made these up to 9" diameter. 1 Quote
eotr Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 And another one... My version of an Aerial centrepin reel... Here's a link to the spin/runout test.https://youtu.be/AeLMiKEcihU 3 1 Quote
