  1. Im with monger. No way i would support flyfishing only in the Bow ever. But definitely would argue one hook only and no trebles. Probably going to be a time many of us oldsters wont be able to cast a fly rod re: balance in water etc etc.. But would still like to be be able to get out there with a spinning rod which much easier to fish with as one gets older.
  2. They dont even ask me anymore. Didnt think i looked that old sheesh!
  3. Maybe its the line ive been buying. Rio Gold. But it seems to crack almost right away where the loop moulds into the line then it acts more like a hinge and also tends to get water past the crack into the cord and sinks to much. So i just cut it off right away and do my thing. I use a little Knot Sense to water proof the nail knot and bobs your uncle.
  4. The home of my ancestors. Love it. Havnt been there in many years. Thanks for the pictures.
  5. I actually cut the loops off my lines as soon as i buy them. If like me you dont like using up line the best way is as mentioned above by Troutlover. Just nail knot on a 20-25 lb mono line about 6-8 inches long with loop on the end of the mono. Ive had that last for several seasons at a time.
  6. I have a homemade spool/winder thats about 12" in diameter. When i get home i windup my fly line from the reel on to the spool. At the same time running the line through a wet cloth to clean it up some. It seems to be a big enough dia. that it doesnt get curly. I also often wind it far enough up to get all the backing on to the spool to dry it out a bit. Makes it easy to store and tangle free. The spool is made wide enough i can get several lines wound onto it. I dont have many setups so its all i need.
  7. You wouldnt need it as your setup looks like a tent and i doubt anyone would dare to look in there in case someone is home. Mine is just a pickup with a canopy. Yeah i just hang the alarm on a little hook inside the canopy lid just in case somebody hasnt figured out im sleeping in there. Guess maybe if i left the tarp up they would figure that, but I usually only put tarp up when im going to use it. Its not up all the time im parked there. I just roll it up and throw it in the box during the day or when im going to sleep. So most wouldnt probably be aware im camping in it. I dont like surprises hence the alarm.
  8. I sleep in my truck box with canopy with home made bed setup. Definately can get a little condensation going on. I leave the slider window open a bit between the cab and cap which really helps. I use a tarp on homemade attachment out behind truck for when im cooking or just for sitting around. I use one of those alarms you can hang on the door knob in hotels for rear tailgate and hatch setup. Very few false alarms as its not super sensitive. Had it work for me a time or two actually. Who ever it was i only got a glimpse as they were running off.
  9. Once i have them within sight, say 10 ft or so im just as happy if they unhook themselves. Ill usually just slack off the line and more often than not there gone. No muss no fuss. I dont keep count of them one way or another anyway. Just happy to be out there.
  10. Very sad to hear of Barry Mitchells passing. My condolences to his family.
  11. Funny shortly after reading this thread from the start i got to chatting with a friend about getting motivated to getting one. Ended up he had one though i didnt know that. He decided he wasnt ever going to use it. Price was right. Walla its mine.
  12. Bought a Mustang deluxe today. Thanks to y'all for the answers. It might just save this old farts life some day.
  13. I recently got a big scare falling in from shore,no waders on. It was a shallow area with not much current. It got me to thinking i should wear one even bank fishing. At 70 years old balance isnt so good anymore. Do the inflateable ones have only one chamber? Guess i could google but its on topic at least sort of.
  14. Never! Dont care for the taste of any creature that comes from water, sea included. Good old Alta beef for me.
  15. Nice pics. Especially the second one. What a beautiful place to fish. Im going green with envy.
  16. Im afraid as has been said above its only just starting. Our power bills will start looking like Ontario's soon enough.
  17. This is so true. Ive seen on other forums where a place gets named too much and next thing you know theres the typical garbage dump left behind where it was once fairly clean. And in the case of ponds where its more noticeable perhaps,so ill use it as a example, they get fished out in no time. As time goes by or as i get older maybe, or as more population is fishing im not as willing to divulge as much as i used too.
  18. I keep a backup of everything i use in the truck. I use the backups lots.
  19. Who is this guy? Anyone know him? What kinda guy would sic dogs on a person fishing.
  20. Id consider myself lucky to have lost my mojo on the Bow. Considering ive never seemed to have much of any with that river.
  21. Sure makes a guy stop and think before complaining about all the aches and pains that come with old age etc.. Im probably going to remember this video for some time. Thanks, it was very inspirational.
  22. Im basically a minimalist by nature it seems. I tend to live it even in my day to day life. So i particularly enjoy topics related to minimalism in flyfishing. I have 5 patterns i use only and other than size and colour theres no change to that. I prefer solitary fishing so i cant judge by how many fish others are catching, but i seem to catch plenty of fish at least to suit me. I can carry everything i need for a days fishing in one average sized waist pack. In fact i carry pretty much all i got in that pack. I enjoy reading about others who are attempting to cut down. Good subject for me at least. I have nothing against nor am i knocking those who like to carry 3-4 boxes full just not my style is all.
  23. Wow. A beauty for sure. Love the colors. Ive yet to catch anything that big on a fly rod. Im guessing minimum 30"? Im green with envy.
  24. Have to agree with the above. Don always took the time to answer my sometimes dumb questions back when i was a noob to fly fishing. It was always appreciated.
