Food For Thought...or Food For Fishes Thought!
maxwell replied to a topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
i think we need more enforcement so less fish get killed by campers........ saw quite a few this year get taken by people.... and was givin the same responce by most people.. just getting one for supper/breakfast... they dont get how small the populations are in these unfertile streams...... now hard too slay 100 fish per km in a small stream.. even if your only keeping one for breakfast...... it coudl be many other thigns aswell. but hte biggest thing ive seen in teh last few years is less fish but bigger average size... soi figure more room too grow for hte few fish left..... thoughts? -

Quick And Easy Ways To Measure Trout
maxwell replied to Wolfie's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
got marking on all of my rods.. simple easy and always closest too teh fish! got marking on my net too..... 24-30 on most of my sticks n net 20 on ym small creek stuff and 30-40 on my big fish stuff -
ive fished them lots on teh bow.. still do each year... ive fished em behind spawning browns like u do salmong and done ok at best.. most of teh time spotty! they can be ok below ina bucket were alot of browns are spawning but i have never really had tons of success.. compared too in teh late fall fishing midges and small mayflies...... i figured fish would key in on em like they do out in salmon country but i believe that our fishdont see enough of them too really care too much.. the odd fish moves up and eats them tho..... i like yarn ones and im nto a fan of pegging if you want too give em a go!

it sucks when most of the red neck hillbillie i run into are suburanites....... we need changes..... soon before some of these streams become a near wasteland and might not recover.... as a guide. i do my part educating most of these people on what i know about random camping laws, river regs, stream and enviromental destruction and hwo not too be a goofball and disrespect our beautiful province...... most of the time i get dissed by them.... but some get it....

i got a 8'8" 3wt for everything small stream and dry on teh bow 8' 2wt for teh cutties i like a longer rod.. keeps the line upa little higher.. mends nicer and gives me better control! get out and cast a few and find what u like best! pipestone nailed it!! i got a few rods n a few more on the list of "must" haves on the way!!!! it will get too teh point were u will have a rod for each specific situation!!! but if i onyl needed one rod a 9' 5wt would be it!

what is wrong with loop? its a rod that is finally carried in town and people are diggin them.. they are top notch in any price range they sell and definetly compare and out perform alot of the other rods out there... mad because too some your brand isnt there favorite? the hardy demon is nice but the tip section is a big weakpoint.. ive heard of over a dozen rods sold so far that have busted in teh first few trips.. sage flight has cheap components, loomis has a few stick that are not too bad in teh higher range but most of them are a more traditional flex from what i have seen... i like one or two stick out of each rod maker because i like a feel too em! but hands down loop in my eyes rocks all else! they were the only manufacturer i wanted too rep! and im stoked a flyshop finally picked em up!!!!!!!! some people like sage. loomis, tfo etc.. but they obviously havnt stepped up n posted so why give a f*ck what others think? have u cast any loops? they are the worlds best kept secret!

i will agree with ya scandi and disagree on the dark sillouette! only because!!!..... when she is overcast and the nightsky is a lighter color! i find darker silouettes are much better! with a black fly on a white/grey sky... but!!!! on a clear sky a white fly will reflect light and show up better!!! i find this can be deadly specially when fishing smaller caddis or mayflies after dark!!! its also what i go with when i fish streamers too!!! like conor said they do see something.. how well they see it that is hard too say!!! ive had some deadly nights fishing caddis pupae and boatman aswell slowly stripped through the frogwater! i had a client who was a hardcore bass after dark dude and also a writer... i got his book! and one thing he pointed out in his book and while b.s'in on the river with bass and i think it can be the same for trout (from what ive seen) is when the sun has set and there is no light it takes roughly half hour for fishes eyes too turn from cone(color)vision too rod vision(black n white)(sorry if i got this ass backwards with teh terms) so you can see a evening rise almsot dye off... but still tons of bugs on teh water.. i guess our eyes also do something similar.. but once the eyes adjust its back on! SO when u see the evening rise taper off! kick it for a bit and waite for the fish too settle back in and they usually start too feed hard again once there eyes adjust! if the air temps stay up and teh bug stay on the water!!! same with streamers.. i find darker or lighter flies can work better depending on the night sky, moonlight and water vis! a really good color afterdark wich i think give a good sillouette and reflects light all at teh same time can be purple and kingfisher blue!!!! these were the only 2 bass popper colors my client mainly fished when the lights were out!! as for right now i still think most of the evening rise is done with.. ive seen a few good nights were the caddis stayed out till after midnight and the fish kept eating them but most nights it tapers off quick and streamers are the top fly! when ive bin dryfly fishing i havnt worried about how hard my presentation is more so sticking with matching the egglayers and fishing a good caddis imitation on the deaddrift.. if i can still locate risers!

sick fish dude! -
hey dude spey casting can be done single or double handed.. i believe that is what jayhad was refering too! its a sick stick and cant be beat for the price they are at that is forsure! i would stick with the 6wt line for a multi purpose line but the 5 might suite you better if you havnt tossed a few lines with it!

siiiiick dude! nicely done! one day i will get out east!!
