  1. Great job for a first fly keep tying and experimenting, looks like you have a worm bundle there. The next step is to try i on the water.
  2. Good guess Murray, it was 240. I've been noticing a few of the shops and suppliers are holding their Long saddles for thier regular tying clients. Here's a post from my friend Poppy at Red Shed. http://www.redshedflyshop.com/WHITING.html
  3. I like this one, geared for steelhead but I like it "SOME THOUGHTS ON ETIQUETTE" "TREAT OTHER ANGLERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED" "RESPECT OTHER ANGLER'S FISHING SPACE, DO NOT LOW HOLE" "ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION TO SHARE A RUN, START BEHIND OTHER ANGLERS ALREADY FISHING" "WHEN FISHING A RUN WITH OTHER ANGLERS MOVE DOWN A COUPLE STEPS AFTER EACH CAST IS FINISHED" "AFTER YOU LAND A FISH GET OUT AND GO BACK TO THE TOP OF THE RUN" "HELP A NEW ANGLER IF IT'S OBVIOUS THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE, OFFER USEFUL TIPS, SHARE A FLY OR TWO" "WHEN FISHING CATCH & RELEASE USE TACKLE HEAVY ENOUGH TO LAND THE FISH WITHOUT A PROLONGED FIGHT, MASH THE BARB TO MAKE THE RELEASE EASIER ON THE FISH" "RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY, ASK FIRST, LEAVE GATES AS YOU FOUND THEM" "PROTECT THE RESOURCE, DON'T LITTER" "REPORT GAME LAW VIOLATERS" "RELEASE ALL WILD STEELHEAD" "LIMIT YOUR KILL, DON'T KILL YOUR LIMIT"
  4. So you though they where using a lot of hackle before did you? Remember you are only looking at eh front of the dress. Take a close look and try to count the capes. How many fly shops did that wipe out stock in.
  5. Hoppers should also be a good bet.
  6. Also if anyone is curious the new wier project is also covered by the same no fishing law.
  7. Get thee to a flyshop for a fix - the first hit is free... he he
  8. Doubt very much if it fades by Christmas, expect an increase as we've just seen the top of the bubble. Have friends in the fashion business and the condenses is it will stay as an addition to hair styling (by the way a designer friend of mine is starting to use long strands of Krystal Flash™ or Flash-a-bou™ along with feathers). Meanwhile we are most likely looking at a few years before growers catch up as they will be hesitant to do a lot of expanding of their flocks in case the fad suddenly fades and they are left with too much product. We are talking about premium genetic long hackles here. Certainly easier to tie with but the normal capes and saddles aren't affected as they are too short for fashion and still work well for tying, you just have to sort more. The long generics are much faster to tie with so the commercial fly tying houses will be most affected by the price increase. Now something no one has mentioned a lot is that the Hackle growers had already faced a feed increase of 60% that before the craze that had a hard time passing on to retail ships. That of course has now changed. As everything travels downhill we are most likely to see an increase in the cost of flies which in many cases from a labor point of view, are under priced at it is. The other point is not all flies are tied with hackle.
  9. Depending on the grade $40 - $110. Have a few I will sell in the fall, betting they will go even higher.
  10. Lots of ways to do it listed here, it all depends on the presentation I'm trying to achieve. With multiple nymphs or swinging and drifting wets i often go with short right angle droppers and sometimes dropper loops on the leader and snelled for the flies. Droppers will give you a better hookup but are trickier to tie and fish till you figure it out. Nymphing eye to bend works good but again it depends on the you want for a presentation. It depends on depth, and the type of water you are fishing. Indicators are nice for deep water or to suspend over structure or weeds on the drift, but try it without an indicator sometimes watching your line instead. Last season I watch from a pedestrian bridge a couple of good fly fishermen nymphing with large indicators. I could see the trout move aside as the indicator drifted over them, food for thought. Try different things, I often see people using the same old rig over and over, very boring, then complain the fish aren't biting, Think of your presentation, where the fish is and how you will show your pattern in a natural way.
