  1. Doubt very much if it fades by Christmas, expect an increase as we've just seen the top of the bubble. Have friends in the fashion business and the condenses is it will stay as an addition to hair styling (by the way a designer friend of mine is starting to use long strands of Krystal Flash™ or Flash-a-bou™ along with feathers). Meanwhile we are most likely looking at a few years before growers catch up as they will be hesitant to do a lot of expanding of their flocks in case the fad suddenly fades and they are left with too much product. We are talking about premium genetic long hackles here. Certainly easier to tie with but the normal capes and saddles aren't affected as they are too short for fashion and still work well for tying, you just have to sort more. The long generics are much faster to tie with so the commercial fly tying houses will be most affected by the price increase. Now something no one has mentioned a lot is that the Hackle growers had already faced a feed increase of 60% that before the craze that had a hard time passing on to retail ships. That of course has now changed. As everything travels downhill we are most likely to see an increase in the cost of flies which in many cases from a labor point of view, are under priced at it is. The other point is not all flies are tied with hackle.
  2. Depending on the grade $40 - $110. Have a few I will sell in the fall, betting they will go even higher.
  3. Loop does make good reels, I have 2 of their classics, very nice.

    Take me there.
  15. Quick send me a list of streams :
  16. Actually I'm in the NE now, my mistake it's gonna be a move to the NW, "she that must be obeyed" wants to be near the grand rug rats. My office is at the airport (although I work out of my home) Give up fishing... God that's like.... NO!!!!
  17. So the wife, (Misses Silver Doctor) has a certain way about her. When she wants the home in the NE redone I come home to the fact that she had taken a sludge hammer to the walls, a fairly direct approach but one that actually penetrates through my dim life of work, fly tying, oil painting and enjoying the very odd dram of Scotch. Well I figured in my guy sort of way that something was up when all my stuff started to disappear. Starting unfortunately with the Scotch and followed by other things like my Hardy reel collection and other important toys. "Where is everything going and who what that strange guy wandering around the house last night"? I sez. "Remember she sez we're selling the house and moving to a newer one in the NW" that was the Realtor. I dimly in my way, remember something to that effect but it was transposed with other important stuff like looking for some new small trout streams and rebuilding a couple of Vintage bamboo rods. Well she's been a packing me life away so I guess we've better move or I'll never find my old silk fly lines that have also disappeared into a host of packed bins I noticed growing in the garage (that solves that mystery nicely). Guess I'll have to think about important things for the move like what parts of the Bow will be close to hand and the best routs to western streams (someone needs to take care of the important aspects of the move). So my question is has anyone moved "in city" lately and and could recommend affordable movers they have used. I've heard good things about two small men moving. Any thoughts so that I can concentrate on the good stuff in life.
  18. Good to know, I really should get one, with they had teem in camo.
  19. Congratulations an awesome job.
  20. Reminds me about an old saying in the fly tying business. Most flies are tied to catch fishermen, not fish...
  21. Thank you very much ladystrange for a very solid and thoughtful post. As anglers we should after all should be wardens of the water for the sake of ourselves an our sport. Rights that are given can be taken away, access is one of them. It is unfortunate that a few will abuse the resources and property still others seem to take pleasure on belittling concerns with demeaning comments.
  22. Absolutely not, especially for Steelhead, salmon, it was a medium trout rod.
  23. I owned one, bought it new in 73'. Good caster for the time, fiberglass rod, Mine liked a 6 wt. Heavy by today's rods standards but good action. They have a small group that collect them. I've seen them go for between $40 & $130 depending on condition, if it has it's original tube, sock and papers. With fiberglass sun is not their friend. Let me know if you need more info.
  24. The official word to date from the city of Calgary. I know you will be fined if caught. The project is not finished and is not safe - the river will not be open to the public until after all construction is complete and its performance has been thoroughly tested and approved. Do not attempt to "pre-test" any of the features! Once testing is done it will soon be given the seal of approval and open to the public. You should be riding the waves by August! From what I gather from phone discussions, the fishing regulations will be the same as if the weir was in place
