I think anytime you pack a million people into one valley it's gonna be ugly. I'm a much happier person now that I live in Cochrane, but even that seems too big sometimes. It's fun complaining about traffic when I get stuck behind three other people at a light.

Twice in the last four years. Once in Cochrane under the hwy.22 bridge (the only crowded spot in Cochrane), checked my license, and once on Sibbald Creek in October, he pulled up and asked if the creek was still open, I informed him Jumpingpound tribs close November. He checked the regs and wished me a good day. I've called them twice, once with results, once without, both times at Carseland when I saw guys stuffing big 'bows in the trunks of their cars.

I'm sure that even if they close some streams, there will still be enough flowing water left for us to fish. It would be a tease driving over Dutch and not being able to stop and fish it, but what the hell, it's a tease hiking up Smith-Dorien. Some things are more important than where I'm throwing a line in on the weekend.

The kid at Wal-Mart will never be able to tell me what the 'bows are biting lately, or show me how to tie a superior knot to the one I've been using. Also, I'm not buying a crappy reel and cheap line. The local flyshops have nothing to fear in Wal-Mart. Half the reason I go to a flyshop is for the atmosphere and the people, and the whole "kid in a candyshop" feeling. Wal-Mart clearly will never be able to replicate that. Try it; next time you go to a Wal-Mart ask the fifteen year old stocking shelves whether he'd recommend flouro or mono, and in what diameter.

My buddy received one of these from his coworkers after an unfortunate coveralls incident. Works just fine.

Honestly, my favorite reel maker is Abu Garcia. My Cardinal has been used and abused, crushed, dunked, pitched, everything, and it's still incredibly smooth, with a bullet-proof drag. But seeing as this is a fly fishing forum, I'll have to say, all I know is I've found a problem with every fly reel I've owned, and am still looking for the right one.

Oh, I'll get it. My dad tagged a nice buck this year, so I've got plenty to practice with, and no shortage of foul language either, that might help.

Nice tie Brent. I can see a giant bully smashing that. After several days of trying to spin deer hair, I have developed a healthy respect for well spun deer hair flies!

I just hope they don't build one in Cochrane. However, they do sell barbless hooks, that's good at least.

Troutfitters flies may be a bit more, but the staff there have really helped me out. My biggest trout on a dry this year was with a fly Tyson insisted I buy and then showed me how to modify... I'll pay a few cents more for that kind of help.

I use a clinch almost exclusively, for some reason my improved clinch doesn't hold as well as my clinch. I forget what it's called, but I know someone on the board had a good knot for chironomids, a loop to keep them horizontal in the water. For a long, long time all I could tie was an overhand loop, hence my tag here. For tying leaders, I use nothing but blood knots.

if i'm not mistaken there was a lake or two stocked with grass carp this year. check the stocking report on the srd site, don't know if they're existing fisheries or if this was a first time stocking.
