  1. Occasionally I'm crowded on the Bow, but I usually just start hiking when that happens. There really aren't all that many buttclowns like that on our river, and I've learned alot from other fishers (fly and spin) on the bank. Basically, if I don't want to run into anyone else, there are plenty of places within an hour drive I can go. If I'm just out for a quick fish, I accept that I may run into a jerk or two, or I may run into a helpful gentleman or two. The latter outnumber the former most days. Dog walkers, however, can pound salt. Keep your shitzhu the hell out of my water.
  2. C'mon Birchy, you can do better.
  3. Great report RickR! What species of trout are those?
  4. I could be wrong, but I thought it was legal to keep perch from the Bow, as they're not specifically listed for the river, so they would fall under the general limits. Of course, wasting any fish is prohibited, so throwing them in the bushes would technically be against regs. Not trying to start a pissing contest, but the regs should dictate our actions.
  5. That looks like a beautiful creek, the kind of place you stop and have a "cigarette" and relax and just take it all in for a while.
  6. Nice pics Coznuts. Thanks for the report.
  7. I voted south, but it's just a damn good thing I get more than one week of vacation. So much water, so little time.
  8. Newbie question MTB: what are splake?
  9. When I was in grade school trout unlimited gave us kids paint and stencils and we put fishies on all the drains in Cochrane, but they only last a year or two. At least the kids who do it will remember for life. Good job MarkD.
  10. Thanks Birchy, I was starting to worry that you had run out. Keep 'em coming!
  11. It's a 3.0, quite an adjustment for me, but kind on the wallet.
  12. My gutless 2x4 My real fishing vehicle
  13. Chicks dig scars Birchy. Have hooked my collar far too many times for comfort. Or when you're trying for that extra 10 yards out at Lower and a cone-head smokes you in the back, that's awesome. Eyelid is by far the scariest though, did that once on the Crow with a copper john, tried not to think about it too much. Coznouts, remember that SLOW day at Wedge when we had a casting fight? Good times man, good times.
  14. No one wants to swing with me after a day or two camping.
  15. They are the hosts from Dutch, a very nice couple who have been keeping me warm for many a trip.
  16. Whatever man! Take the sick day from work and throw a line somewhere special.
  17. It's my favorite campground in an area filled with nice campgrounds.
  18. Nice fish guys. That 'bow in the middle is a fatty.
  19. I was referring to the Carseland weir by Strathmore, just turn south from #24 at the thriving metropolis of Carseland. There is all kinds of parking and access at the Bow River Park, but if you only have a day, the more southern portion of the Bow in Calgary might be kinder to you. I often fish right by the Crowchild bridge and typically just catch a few whities.
  20. Lethfisher, the fishing right above the weir is usually quite good, with plenty of road access.
  21. I tried this weekend out by Cochrane and the results were less than successful. They called me back an hour later saying you could use bait in the Ghost reservoir. I explained that while this was true, these guys were using minnows in the river. Just a miscommunication I'm sure, but the whole experience left me feeling like it just wasn't a priority to them. I'm sure they're busy, and I know they can't catch every poacher, but I ALWAYS see guys using bait there, and it steams me so bad.
  22. Great report man, sorry bout the finger but what the hell, you're a tough guy. You might have to show me where those fat cutties are if I ever get a tube.
