I was at Mckinnon one night and there was a Warden checking people coming off the river. He checked the cooler of a couple of fellas & found a Brown over the legsl size for keeping. He asked me to realese it. So I spent quite a long while trying to revive the fish so he was able to swim away on his own. Everytime when I let go of him he just made a couple of movements and went to the bottom. The warden said no matter what he goes back , whether he lives or not to be part as Headscan says the Biomass. I hope he did live, he did seem more powerfull when I released him for the last time.

Fly Rod Raffle Only A Few Hours Left!!!
jdangler replied to reevesr1's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
From someone who has had Prostrate Cancer and here today because of early detection & people like Rick in doing this that I can still enjoy our sport. So thank you Rick & all who is donating, the Rod is a great bonus & incentive. Also to all of you guys listen when I say EARLY DETECTION is the key...get yourself checked regularily especially after the age of 40. -
I'm also in need of boots, the felt on mine was worn down to almost nothing but the boot itself was still in pretty good shape. To me the jury is still out on these new rubber soled boots. I like the idea of studs but because I have a boat & there is no way studded boots are going in the boat. So what I have done for now is replace the felt soles with a kit with new soles & glue. I thought this kit may not work worth a darn but so far the soles have worked great & have remained glued to the boots just fine. So maybe the rubber soled boot technology will be improved a little more in the next couple of years then I will buy some. I fish in Montana quite a bit also so I'm also concerend about bringing these evasive species back & forth so I have even thought of having 2 pairs of boots.

Hey good thought, Another + for the Spey. Thanks, Bowcane
-
Thanks, your answers & advice helped a lot.

Maxwell, the time of year you mention is one of the reason I went to the Spey, stay dry & warmer & get the casts further out. Do you use a normal leader setup like a single hand rod for nymphing like a 6'-7' leader with indicator and 2 flies, with an upstream cast & drift down with rod held high with a mend or 2 thrown in?
-
Thanks Fellas. Confirmed my thoughts about Skagit & Streamers, & sticking with my one hander fot nymphing. I will have a look Rio's new 450 gr. Skagit Flight Head so, sound it would be the right setup for my rod.

I'm sure these questions have been asked before, but I havent been able to find the answers & some of I havent been able to understand the answer. I fairly new to this spey thing and wanted to get into it because ot looked fun & a new challenge. I fish the Bow primarily so I thought a Spey outfit would be great for Streamers & maybe longer drifts when nymphing. I bought a Echo 6126 which is 12'6" rod for 6/7 weight and have a Windcutter line. I have done a little nymphing & but mostly streamers. I havent caught anything yet but no biggie. So my questions are #1. For streamers would it be better with a Skagit compact head with a sinking cheater & short 4'-6' sinking leader to get some depth or use the Windcutter with a longer leader with weighted streamer? The longer leader I was thinking it would be hard to turn over & awkward. #2 am I wrong in thinking of nymphing with the Spey to get a long drift? Casting is practice & more practice. I accept that, I have gone to casting schools & enjoyed them, enjoyted the people, bought the DVD's. I see all the threads on all the boards on what lines to use, what weights of lines to use, lengths, Scandi, Skagit, or Windcutter. For now I just want to know how to fish with it. Thanks Bob

I found a new Mag that I relly like. It is similar to the Drake but different. The Flyfish Journal. Quite a bit thicker, longer articles, great photograpy, more money, and like the Drake I read it all, not just what interests me.

Found a Sage rod laying in the middle of the road on the Livingstone, posted it on this website and after a couple of months with no calls took it into a flyshop to check out if I could get Sage to replace & sent it away. It came in got a call I thought " sweet new Sage RPL 590". Day I went in to pick it up the blank a fellow came in asking if anyone turned in a rod that fell off his vehicle while driving on the Livingstone. I thought damn, but I felt good getting it to the rightfull owner.

Back in the fall of 06 I ordered a pair of Waders, Pro Guide 2. They had them on sale because they were bringing out the new Pro Guide 3. About a montha go they started to leak around some seems so I filled out the Wader Repair for on their Web Site and sent them in for repair. Well I just got a call from Orvis telling me they were not repairable and a new pair of Pro Guide 3 were on thier way to me. Talk about great service. I have had great experiences for years from Orvis & this is just another one.

For me just the simple Red Wire wrapped around the hook.

I've been thinking of a new vest & was wondering what everyone uses, or recommends. Main thoughts are comfort & spreading the load. I could lessen the load but I use it for a tackle box kind of thing, I want to grab my vest and no matter where 'm going or what I doing streamers, drys or nymphing I know I have it with me not left behind at home or in my pickup.I cant find many choices which surprises me, Simms , Orvis, Cloudveil, & Ghillie. Thanks in advance

Anyone Float The Missouri In April?
jdangler replied to AndyW's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I have fished the Missouri near Craig several times in the last couple of years, but the first time was late April and it was rainy & cold one day, but nice the next, but the fishing was awesome, we floated the river on 2 consecutive days on 2 seperate sections of the river caught many nice browns, rainbows & whitey's and even browns on drys. I also was guided by Mark then and once since and I highly recommend him, he works hard for you & it's a full day. I have also fished it in July and the Caddis hatch was amazing. Caddis everywhere and in my truck for weeks afterwards, but the trout were very selective so stop at the local shops to get the local patterns. Also have done it in January last year I needed to see open water and no snow the numbers werent the same but there was no ice then and it was a nice change. Goping back this year and I'm thinking it will be late April early May again. Also going to Dillon to do the Beaverhead again, then over to Livingston to try the Madison & Yellowstone. Good luck when you go & make sure you have a couple of Fat Tires at Izzaks -
i have a Clack and love it, but the watershed boats on their website look pretty nice. I'd like to see one in the flesh, interesting interior.
