  1. http://show.flyfishingclub.org/ Found this online, coincides with my spring break. Fly Fishing Symposium Mar 25-26 Has anyone been, what did you think? I have also never fished the Columbia or Kootenay rivers. From my early research, both seem to be open during that time. Might be fun to do a combo (symposium and few days of early spring swinging)
  2. I now have access to: 40lb Trilene Big Game 40lb Slickshooter 30lb Airflo ridge shooting line will see if I can borrow a grip shooter, I am a rookie, but capable. Will try each and give my honest opinion once I have done my testing. J
  3. Looked up some info: Slick shooter nylon 44lb 0.030" diameter 110ft $15-20 I wonder what the coating is that it has? Trilene big game 40lb 0.024" 990ft $13 I too pinch my running line against the rod, so with a skinny diameter that might be an issue. Good point! But at that price, it is worth a shot. If not I'll give it to the father in law for his down riggers.
  4. So I have had to buy a couple of running lines in the past year. Both of them overtime developed the problem, where the PU covering started to come off of the core. These loops in the line could be straightened out, but would cause the line to wrinkle. Once this happened you could see and feel the difference in the ability of the line to shoot. Both issues seemed to happen within the couple of days of use (both were airflo 30lb running lines) Fish tales replaced one of them with a brand new one, and the other was lost on a rather hot coho on the skeena. So I came across this article today, and wondering what your thoughts were: http://epicwatersangling.com/blog/best-running-line-shooting-heads The gist, if you dont want to read: Berkley Trilene big game 40lb mono Guy claims it floats better, doesnt tangle as much at your feet and shoots way better than any running line he has used. Best is, 300yds will cost you $15, much cheaper than the airflow running lines, knots well. The father in law uses it on his downriggers in Manitoba, and the stuff is tough. I will give it that. Just looking to get dialed in for this summers Skeena trip.
  5. I have the travel light silver sonics. Have had them for 4 years now. Not sure they make them anymore. They get used and abused! Never had a single manufacturer problem with them. I did put a hole in them with a nail a year in. Sent them back, replaced no questions asked. A pretty hardy wader. Only this fall did they finally develop a leak. Went way beyond what I thought they would do I will be buying Orvis silver sonics again. My 2 cents.
  6. There are lots of good trees off of the powederface trail (which I believe is close to the Junior Wardens) You are able to get the $5 tree cutting permit that you mentioned, which is good for 3 christmas trees I believe. However, powderface closes soon (Dec 15 if I recall) and, if you go that route make sure you have a 4 x 4, with the snow that road can get pretty slippery.
  7. $84 at fish tales, purchased last April.
  8. I hate seeing people get burned. I have been burned before, and know how much it sucks. What were you hoping to get out of your guided day Sallinger? i am no where neara guide but, perhaps myself or someone on the board could help you out? I see you're in cochrane area. I float that section quite a bit....and the bow.....hike a lot as well.
  9. What defines quality spawning habitat?
  10. There was just an episode on Discovery's Daily Planet about the use of drones and biological surveys. They were testing drones that had algorithm software to count birds on a beach. They also had humans count the same fake birds from a distance. The humans were far more accurate than the drones, there were some problems with the identification algorithms (picking up people as birds etc)
  11. Had a similar experience last spring. A guy came ripping down the bow within citg limits, I called RAP, who then passed me onto CPS, who directed me to 311, which patched me through to Bylaw, who then connected me with CFD. After a half hour of being connected, the Fire department came down to the river with sirens and lights a blaring. I had to walk 20 minutes to them, because no road was close by. When the 3 firemen met with me, they we were very concerned about the person in the water. I had to tell them that no one fell in the water, but a jet boat was in the water. They didn't seem to care...... I mentioned that this was illegal, they weren't sure, so they contacted their chief. Then they told me to call RAP, it is there problem. It was the total run around...not one of them knew who was actually responsible for enforcing the bylaw. Who knows what happened to that guy, in that jet boat. I did some sleuthing on my own, I found his truck at Glenmore...Where I was fishing was a long way south of glenmore. He motored a heck of a long way within city limits.
  12. Was he actually using his motor when you saw him? Or just floating?
  13. Thanks guys. Will give it a go.
  14. I have had 0 issues with gravel or ricks wearing the Simms rip rap. They fit tightly to your ankle preventing this. Good grip on mountain streams. Won't go back to anything else. Boots are way to heavy for summer.
  15. I'm in Manitoba at the wife's cabin. 30 minutes away from twin. Anyone have info on how to fish for tigers? I hear they are pretty aggressive thinking dead drifting leeches, maybe stripping a booby? Any input would be helpful
  16. http://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=43055590A1618-D3D6-75F3-574E1DCB73E15B73 I thought this was coming. I figured in my head before seeing this that we would see closures by mid July. Hope for rain and cool temps.
  17. I logged in and just tried selecting dates through their online license purchase. It tells you if there are available days, and if not which date ranges have days left.
  18. That is my fear as well Bcube, Heading there for two weeks in the middle of August with the new jet. I hope its not the last time I get to go without a guide.
  19. Sweet. But now what? What are the next steps? How can we as an angling community ensure that this keeps moving forward. A motion is only good if there will be subsequent action taken.
  20. Not on the Elk. Wigwam and Michel only. I checked on Wiggy today. No available spots available for unguided until Aug 1 - Aug 15 (32 spots available), and Sept 1 - Sept 15 (9 spots available) Its a joke, their guides are laughing all the way to the bank right now. They could charge whatever they wanted on those days. They should make it so that if the guide days aren't booked a week in advance, they go to the unguided group. It would sure suck to pay the money XXX months in advance to get yourself a spot to find the river blown out due to storm or whatever. No refunds on the classified license either.
  21. Great idea, done and done.
  22. Actually. Just checked their website. I should be able to work with those dimensions. Thanks
  23. Looking for some High Density Polyethylene or something similiar like puck board. Need a 3' X 3' sheet in 10mm thickness, fir a small fabrication project. Tried Rona, Home Depot to no avail. Internet searches turned up a few possibilities but hoping to find it locally. If you have seen any let me know.
