  1. Thanks everyone. Abalon isn't returning calls or email at the moment
  2. Curious if they actually carried all those rods...
  3. Jarrod, pm incoming with some questions
  4. Can anyone recommend a good crack-repair company? I have a small crack in our basement wall that allowing a tiny bit of water through. I have contacted a couple, one is coming to do a quote. The other one gave me a flat rate without even looking at it (sketchy much?) Thanks
  5. Your tying a streamer, don't worry about how tightly packed that head is, you're not adding the deer hair to make the thing float. Fly looks good to me
  6. Exactly.
  7. I think they're good ways to get people into the sport, but until you have cast (fished is better), you'll never tell the difference. I know while guiding i had a TFO as my backup, and that thing was a pig compared to my lower end sages. Absolute pig. Ok for nymphing, but certainly not a dry fly rod.
  8. sums it up for me why I haven't fished a TFO in years...with as few days i get out now, i sure as hell want to love my equipment, not get away with 'par'. Yes i can cast a TFO..will i enjoy it as much as my One? Nope plus if i break my sage, i feel far more confident that it was my fault...
  9. or they're just sick of bad rowing and just want to see the opportunity for a fish to get into the boat... you can get a used drifter in the states for that much, and that will last you a lot longer then any trip to any country...
  10. So now all it's doing is pushing clear into a fishery with fish under 100cm..... really should be pushing a few of these pike lakes into C&R..would be amazing to see what they could produce if we stopped actively selecting for the big mating females..
  11. The abundance of Pike in Lake Newell has declined and harvest pressure needs to be further reduced to recover the population to the desired level. To achieve this, the regulation changes from 1 Pike over 63 cm to catch and release (0 limit). This is good...but frick do that for a couple others (Clear Lake, for example..). Pike management is embarrasing
  12. Get a Lamson Konics or Guru... Same drags as their $500-600 dollar reels
  13. 'fly' kind of freaks me out, but most custom guys probably think we're all just a bunch of wackjobs anyway
  14. 'Lure Making Materials' always gets through
  15. Best i've seen was a super dark buck in 0 degree weather in the Lake Pool...could only imagine it at chrome and at the mouth..
  16. nope, steelheading sucks and should be banned....don't do it....you'll hate it
  17. There's a big difference between intersecting a fish on its way to a spawning area 6 months later (that is built to survive those 6 months...), then picking on spawning fish on beds... But yes it's terrible and dirty. No one should do it
  18. Again, it is not a bylaw. You would be breaking a federal law.... The bow within city limits is classified under schedule 2 of the Canada Shipping Act. "No persons shall operate a power driven vessel or a vessel driven by electrical propulsion in any of the waters described on Schedule II unless authorized by the Minister pursuant to paragraph 8 (1.1) (. However, operation of emergency vessels is permitted."
  19. electric is still illegal
  20. Not a bylaw, it's an exception to the Canada Shipping Act
  21. No comment on matching weights, as I didn't look into it. But being there in September, do yourself a favor and get a dry fly line.
  22. if they're unbugged pike, you can throw a beer can with a hook and they'll eat it..virtually anything that is big and moving, they will try to eat.
  23. Some woollies... A high of -10, gross
  24. The city will never repeal the no-powered craft, with the amount of effort it took to get an exemption to the TC regs. If it ever even got brought up (which is laughable), They'll look at the number of rescues they have to perform on non-powered craft, and just dread some guy going over the weir in his house boat.... Won't happen.
  25. For average joe caster (and let's be honest, average is pretty low), they're going to have issues with scandi's as they're more dependent on timing. If you're a good caster (and if you're throwing a full fly line, you likely are), you'll find ALL of the casting far easier to get a grip on. I doubt there is a harder way to learn then being someone who isn't quite 'there' yet with their single hand casting, and moving onto a double hander, as while they are quite similar, most guys are going to automatically overpower everything just due to the weight difference of a 13' rod, and not have the instinctual understanding that they are overpowering (or simple casting mechanics like stopping the rod high, effectively forming d-loops, etc)
