WOW that is some awesome footage, thanks for posting. I'm always a little nervous when I catch a pike and don't have any pliers or forceps on hand to pull out the fly, it's nerve-wracking to have your uncovered fingers within easy biting range when unhooking the fish.

Anyone Think That Sasquatch/bigfoot Is Real?
snakeman replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Simply citing one recent example. With there being far more first-person sasquatch sightings than god sightings I personally find the skepticism a little funny. If you want conclusive evidence look to the hair samples that, when DNA tested, could not be linked to any known mammal. Or the footprints documented by explorers in remote areas of the Himalayas, where many locals will attest to the existence of yeti. -
Anyone Think That Sasquatch/bigfoot Is Real?
snakeman replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yes, I do believe that the creature known as sasquatch exists. I have never seen one but just last spring a trucker in BC near Golden reported seeing a large, dark hair-covered biped on a hillside. p.s. to check out sighting reports, www.bfro.net is a great resource. Also take a look around bigfootforums.com if the subject interests you. It's hard to remain skeptical after doing some research on the subject -
I saw a beastly grass carp in a slow, shallow, eddy on the Bow in Carburn Park some 3 years ago. The thing scared the crap out of me. I posted about it on FFA and someone else said that they too had seen a carp at that location. So there's at least one spot you can try if you really want one, assuming the monster is still around

Future Fly Fishing In Alberta
snakeman replied to fisher26's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I'm hoping for a big recession in the oil industry. It would mean loss of jobs for many people close to me, but it would be all right in the long run if it resulted in all the get-rich-quick knobs going back east and leaving Alberta to Albertan's -
Proper Fish Handling
snakeman replied to flyfisherjohn's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I can't think of many fly-fishing situations in Alberta where you would need to use that technique. A good net is the best option for proper fish handling. -
Fly Fishing New Year's Resolutions

Just get some good sandals. I've been using the same pair of sandals for the last 3 or 4 years, wearing them over my neoprenes in winter and wearing them with shorts in the summer. My wading set-up cost me about $120 and it's lasted longer than almost any other gear I've owned. No breathable's in my foreseeable future. -
Which Is Your Favorite Reel Maker?
snakeman replied to NormanMcLean's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Pflueger, because they're cheap and hold my line nicely. The Supreme has a simple and effective drag and has yet to fail me after 2 seasons. It got a little squeaky once, but some wd40 takes care of that. -

Thanks for the tip, I haven't found too much in the way of largemouth out there. If you're in Belleville and want muskie you should consider making the 30 minute drive to Tweed to fish Stoco lake. There are some absolute beasts in there. -
Which Is Your Favorite Rod Maker?
snakeman replied to NormanMcLean's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
It's the Sage LE, now discontinued and replaced by the Launch. The 'LE' probably stands for low-end. It is a very slow rod, it casts smoothly in the 20-35 foot range but outside of that it's really weak. It takes a lot to toss a weighted streamer or Bow nymph rig with it. Someday I might go for a high end Sage, as I've heard nothing but good about them, but for now the TFO's satisfy my needs. -
I'm already there Teck, here's a picture of me that was on my Facebook until I deleted my account!

Fly Fishing New Year's Resolutions
snakeman replied to Hawgstoppah's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Same here, I wanted to hit the Bay of Quinte for gar last summer but didn't get around to it. They look like a blast. I did get to spend a lot of time on the Moira river near Belleville and found some great bass fishing. -
If you want to see something else that is pretty scary, look up the "Bohemian Grove". It's place where Bush Sr. and Jr. along with all men of great power in our world can be seen every July, taking part in a really strange sacrificial ceremony called "Cremation of Care".

30" bull, and spend time exploring the Oldman and Castle systems. -
The government has a cure for cancer, and aids, they just choose to keep them secret in order to control the population. Aids is a man-made virus, an idea brainstormed by the men of the Illuminati. These people are no doubt in on the whole facebook thing aswell, it is just a tool used by the men of power who are working towards the New World Order.....

Which Is Your Favorite Rod Maker?

I've owned 2 TFO's and one Sage. The Sage is useless, casts like a wet noodle. I guess that's what I get for buying a low-end Sage. The TFO's are great, I'm sure there are many better rods out there but the TFO's suit my needs just fine. -

Nice flies dude. The largemouth bass at my lake in Ontario would love those things.

Make at least 3 trips to the East Slopes cutthroat streams (zero last summer )

Great book. Fishing books don't get much better than John Gierach's, imo. I got a TFO for Christmas that I haven't seen before. The label says it's just one of the Lefty Kreh signature series poles, but it's a 4-piece and has a really nice wood insert reel seat. Also, the price tag was accidentally left on the rod, and it cost 159.99. It must be an updated version or something. Anyway, can't wait to take it down to the Elbow and test 'er out, maybe find a brown or two. Goodbye noodly Sage LE Merry Christmas everyone

Song For A Winter's Night

I haven't heard anyone cover a Lightfoot song and have it sound better than the original. The man is a national treasure. -
Smyth is not worth the money he was asking for. He's getting old and doesn't have many 30+ goal seasons left. Penner on the other hand is young and has the potential to become a very good power forward. Everyone knows that Penner is overpaid right now, but he might end up being worth the risk. He already shows flashes of greatness and lately has been playing like the player Lowe was hoping for. Obviously they won't keep this line-up together forever, but they will for at least a few seasons and hopefully long enough to make a couple deep runs into the playoffs. Lowe will do whatever it takes to sign his special young players, even if it means dumping the salaries of Roloson, Staios, Stoll, Torres, etc. When Pitkanen and Gagner ask for big money they'll get it.

Well for a while it looked like nothing was going to change because they are one of the top grossing teams in the league in ticket sales, merchandise, etc. They could put an AHL team on the ice and they'd still sell out every home game....

Horcoff has the switch flipped 'on' permanently now; apparently he had been using the wrong sticks for the past few seasons, so he went down to a factory in Mexico last summer and got the right sticks, and voila! he is suddenly a sniper Yak, with the very strong chance of a new Oilers owner in the new year there will probably be big shake-ups in management if they still can't win in regulation. I think it's time to stop trying to relive the glory days by having ex-Oilers running the team.
