  1. The video is private now. Is it that clip of a spinfisherman landing a brown on the Bow?
  2. Wow what a hefty fish, that's awesome. Crystal meth fly eh? What does that look like? Reminds me of that King of the Hill where Hank finds out that crack makes a killer bass bait
  3. 3x or 4x gits 'er done for me in most trout situations. If I kept track I'd probably find that I use 3x most often. When I'm on a bully or pike binge 15lb maxima is my go-to 'tippet'.
  4. Killer post all around. Amazing bullies.
  5. Neat pics Harps. I've noticed some brook trout redds on a spring creek near my house. The char are off of them now but it was really cool to watch their spawning behaviour through September and October.
  6. Was there some recent news regarding "Dog"? I don't get the paper anymore
  7. Awesome pictures
  8. I love Radiohead but I haven't heard In Rainbows yet - too busy listening to the new Ween record
  9. I don't know if there are any Primus/Claypool fans out there, but if there are, you might enjoy this clip:
  10. To borrow your word - 'cosmic' shots Clive, nice post
  11. The best fly was a simplified prince nymph - just a 2-biot tail, peacock herl body, tinsel rib, and white biot wings. Pheasant tail nymphs are also really good. Pretty much anything small and buggy, fished deep, will produce. Good luck.
  12. Amazing post, very enjoyable to read, thanks Toolman.
  13. Those are beasts! They must've put up a hell of a fight.
  14. Try fishing around the Highway 8 bridge, there is some great water for a long stretch downstream of the bridge and a couple of nice pools upstream. And yep that's a supreme, pretty great reel for the money, it's held up for 2 seasons and served it's purpose well. Playdoh - no polarized lens, just got lucky with the sun in the perfect position. Thanks for the comments everyone.
  15. Wow those are some really nice trout, good stuff.
  16. Esleech, when the scoring chances were tallied at around halfway through the third period they stood at 16-15 flames. There is a difference between shots on goal and scoring chance; a scoring chance doesn't necessarily mean that the puck made it to the net (i.e. Hemsky's breakaway was a scoring opportunity despite not hitting the net).
  17. I disagree about the young guys; Gagner and Cogliano are looking really good. Brodziak is playing well, as is Gilbert. Pitkanen is great and I hope they can lock him up for a couple seasons. It's the veterans like Stoll, Hemsky, Horcoff, Torres, Staios - who need a kick in the ass. Stoll looks like he hasn't fully recovered from that concussion. Torres needs to develop consistency . I think Hemmer is confused about what his role on the team should be. Staios is just slow. Horcoff is mediocre, as usual. He is not a 1st line center and never will be. They need to send Stortini back to the minors and get a real enforcer. He should be ashamed of himself after getting his ass kicked by old man Nolan. I can't wait till Moreau gets back and lights a fire under these guys. Penner is definitely overpaid. It was a desperate effort by Lowe that might end up hurting them, or he will hit his stride and develop into one of the league's top power forwards. He looked lost and emotionless on Saturday. I really hope he can get on top of his game soon. They need some legitimate goal scorers. Saturday's game would have been a lot closer if they had players who can bury their chances - the flames have those players with Iginla, Huselius, Langkow - and it showed on Saturday. The Oilers have playmakers, grinders, solid goaltending, and defensive depth but no goal scorers.
  18. No, unfortunately not. That would be nice to see though, because in the last week I haven't had too much luck finding the trout.
  19. Yeah, I have been fishing this stretch for a few years now and I always find a couple schools of whitefish at this time of year, but I have never seen massive pods like this before. The streambed is covered with pods of rockies like the one pictured from that pool to about 50 yards upstream. Now, if only the brown and rainbow populations were doing this well...
  20. The whitefish are ridiculous right now, it would take a good effort to not catch them. Check it out: The tree visible in the upper right of this shot is home to a monster pike who seems to always be in too awkward of a position to present a streamer. One day this week I'm going to sneak up at dusk and see if I can find him roaming. I have seen a really nice rainbow and some small 'bows and browns in this pool as well. Very fishy spot. Here is an average sized whitey specimen I have spotted some monster whites pushing 20 inches, and have hooked a couple, but haven't landed one of the beasts yet. They fight like logs but use the deadfall in the river to their advantage. Sight fishing for these guys is a blast. It's a great way to learn how to short line nymph without a bobber. The river: Bad pic, but try to spot the brookies. Get out there while ya still can fellas, it's a great time if you like catching rockies (hey, some of us are crazy enough to like them!)
  21. Some great pictures here! The highlight being Birchy's awesome toque
  22. I use climax simply because most stores seem to carry it, the price is right, and I have never had any issues with durability.
  23. Beauty fish, great pics
  24. Great fish! My first bully could have been swallowed whole by that thing.
  25. Enjoyed my first bear sighting last Saturday. I spend a lot of time in the backcountry and bear-infested areas, fishing and hiking and whatnot, but had never seen a bear. So imagine the irony when, driving to Banff on the Trans Canada with some friends from Ontario, we spot a crowd parked at the side of the road, watching a small male grizz do his thing in a phone-line clearing, about 3 minutes outside of the town of Banff. We watched him for about 30 minutes (and watched some complete morons push the limits of how close you can get with a camera) until a park ranger came with a shotgun and bear bangers to scare him away. It's amazing seeing how fast they can be when they want to move.
