  1. A city builds a road with lacklustre lighting, no stop lights at unncontrolled busy intersections, etc... It always takes a tragedy for the proper safety procedure or protocol to be put in place, there is a myriad of examples of this. Government, private business are all guilty of it. I will guarantee you that now they will have a better procedure for inventory control and who has access to the restricted weapons. Pretty easy to say from the outside that they should have their license revoked without knowing the facts.
  2. If you start to guide you will have to get one of these; Guide strike tool
  3. Can`t blame Kipper for our dismal PP.... Calgary is a very average team from the Center line all the way back- right back to the GM`s office.... and since you are calling Kipper out what about Iggy.
  4. There is a big monetary stake for the scientists studying global warming and alot of the advocates as well. This is becoming a big business for them too.
  5. And further to this look at Sutter's record. Really quite average as a coach and as Calgary's GM- well you decide. He has certainly walked on water in Calgary.
  6. Looks like a stringer of fish from Chain Lakes, or Severn, or Lee, or Beaver Mines, or......
  7. Free Coffee at McDonalds for the next 2 weeks. Hey they even gave me a free paper too!
  8. A weather forecast that is a week away. Get that same weatherman to pick your lotto numbers, same odds that he will be correct!
  9. When you first here of it, it sounds like it could get out of control. The reality is with ZERO improvements to an area 99% of the folks that are attracted to a regular "park" would never venture to a place like the Wilmore. This place is rugged and wild, and the people who venture there are prepared for this and respect the area more than any place I have ventured to in the Province. Unlike National parks where we can't hunt, hunting is the historical use of the wilmore. There is nothing wild about Banff where elk chase you on golf courses and you can hand feed bighorn sheep. The wilmore has the higest densities of Bighorn sheep in Alberta, very healthy elk herd and it has always been open for hunting. The wildlife just doesn't hang out on the trails waiting for potato chips from tourists. I guess everyones definition of wildlife differs. Managed consumption/hunting of wild ungulates is a good thing, keeps a healthy predator/prey relationship which is gone in the National Parks. IMO places like Banff are becoming more like zoo's than the unfettered natural areas of their original intent. Lots of pretty stuff to look at, but you are left with a feeling that you are only an observer and with the ongoing regulation crackdown in the backcountry, and the ever increasing tourist traps of the the towns and villiages Nat parks are defeating the purpose of their original intent.
  10. We need more places like the Wilmore wilderness area. More protection than a national or provincial park, with no roads or development of any kind. A staging area and that is it. No cappucino bars, restaurants, teahouse at the top of the mountain or stinky hippies to get in my way. Best of all you can actually go in there and live off the land. Hunt, fish and camp where you want. Go on a trip in the wilmore and you will come out of there invigorated and connected with nature. The National Parks make you feel like a "visitor" which is wrong. Still lots of backcountry jems in the National parks, but the Park attitude is wrong. as I get older I want no part of it. Alberta is on the right track with the "wildland Park" concept. Wild areas with zero development.
  11. Ever since they eliminated mtn bikes on the trail that I used to go to my favorite cutty lake I have not bought a Banff license, and I have not been in the loop with the latest regulation tightening. Last I heard they wanted to kill all the lakes with introduced species and re-introduce only the native fish. again I don't know if that got off the ground either. I guess in some ways the Parks people who want no back country visitors are winning as I never go there anymore...
  12. You bet this is what some of the biologists pulling the strings in Parks Canada want. A few years back there was an internal movement to eliminate all fishing in Banff, looking back it seems like it did not have much steam.
  13. This video sums it up. When a bear charges you won't have time for anything. The only thing that saved their bacon in the video is spotting the cubs first, gave the guide time to draw his pistol.
  14. Shops like Bass Pro are good for the niche retailers such as the local fly shops. Bass Pro is a drawing card for non hunters and fishermen because of the scale and all of the advertising. It is pretty unlikely that a small fly shop in a strip mall is going to draw people into their business that are not already involved to some degree. Where I am going with this is there is a good chance that a store such as Bass Pro gets people excited about hunting and fishing that never were before. The trickle down effect to the smaller specialty shops is only a benefit, the whole pie becomes bigger.
  15. As far as core exercises go you should see a PT first to get you on the right track with the core stuff after they do an assesment of your injury. If it truly is a herniated/bulged disc you should avoid all flexion (sitting and bending forward) as much as possible in daily life and try to keep a neutral spine. Seek a PT that practices the Mckenzie method, which is mostly extension stretches. I have been battling a severely bulged disc (MRI shows 14mm) for over 4 years. When it originally happened I got it under control, but it has since come back twice with a vengence and I am currently dealing with it. Surgery is rarely an option and that is why they make you wait so long for a consult with a surgeon. Oh ya- My back rarely if ever hurts. All of the pain is in my butt cheek, leg, and calf, the typical sciatic pain caused by the disc compressing the nerve root at the L5-S1 level
  16. Just fish with someone that is a slower runner than you.
  17. If you surprise a grizzly and it charges you will be hard pressed to get the spray out of the holster, safety off and fire. A gun strapped to the side of a pack would be impossible in this situation, as well as being dangerous with one in the spout for obvious reasons. The dangerous game guides and hunters in africa don't even have slings on thier guns for the reasons stated above, they always carry them ready.
  18. I carry both- Banger pen in the pepper spray holster.
  19. As Terry says there are plenty enough put and take lakes in Alberta. If anything there should be more lakes with bait bans and zero limits. I agree there should be a balance, but the way it is now it is lop-sided towards the meathunters.
  20. Looks fine just the way it is, hey the logo on his lawn chair matches his shirt.
  21. sometimes you gotta wonder if the virus/security software companies are in cahoots with the virus writers? I say this tongue in cheek, but without one the other would not exist. Why could virus protection software not be written into the new operating systems such as Vista?
  22. You can just tow it across with no worries or charges, as long as you meet whatever your state requirement is to tow a boat. The other post you are reffering to is about a candian purchasing a boat in the US and importing it to Canada.
  23. How about better/more signage at trailheads and parking areas and more enforcement.
