  1. I'm going to be laying at home wishing I was fishing, after getting "the man operation" done on the 15th.
  2. geez I could probably pay the budget for all of AB for each fiscal year if I started writing speeding tickets about 50km south of longview eh?
  3. I nymph on a 10ft rod. You never did state what WT the rod would be. You might not want a 9 footer if it's a 3WT becuase it'll be more comfortable shorter. If it's a 5/6/7 I'd go with 9ft, if it's 8wt or 9wt maybe 8'6" becuase of the weight of the rod to cast all day. remember casting in a fly shop or parking lot with nothing attached... just isnt the same as nymphing a indy, splitshots, 2 or 3 nymphs, and throwing all that 40ft and getting a good mend with the wind blowin'
  4. Good time for anyone out of work and on EI benefits to reconsider going back to school (if you dont already have some form of a degree). I know this might not apply to you Birchy, but I thought this thread would be a good place to put this. I am on the last stages of being approved for two years FULLY FUNDED to go back to school. Gonna take two years criminal justice - policing. So in a couple years all you mo'fos that don't use siginal lights better watch your back I'll be coming for ya!
  5. I got an idea. We'll all go catch that pike with lures, flies, bait, whatever.... Then bonk it. Take it home, and eat it. That's what happens in our "natural" places too!
  6. LOL... does he have the hair to go with it?
  7. 2 words. Stone Flies fish em along deep slowish banks that have about 2-4 feet of water. I like grassy banks that are long and easy to fish in high water. Fish are usually on an extreme inside edge (with the faster current on the opposite side of the river). cheers
  8. I throw in the "U2 best of 1980-1990" disc and off I go. Puts me in the mood. One of the songs has a few lines in particular that tell of the early morning drive to the crow... lines " a highway with no one on it" and " a river in a time of dryness" set the tone.
  9. I think he implied that instead of complaining about it, to do something about it.
  10. I lived in MacKenzie Lake when we lived in calgary. I wouldn't trade that for the world. Great area. *DEEP* southeast is great. If I had to drive through that fakkin city from the NW just to go fishing I would not have done it half as much I am sure. Lived in Dover for a year... was the first house... found out that we might as well just leave the car windows down, saved a lot on glass money. Left nothing in the car at all. It's just easier that way. PS: dover, forest lawn, and anything within a 5 mile radius of THAT area is really, really, full of crime and scumbags.
  11. right on. I remember my wife's first flyrod fish, she applied a similar "choke hold" technique on it.
  12. Here's an idea Make the minimum size limit on all alberta lakes higher. instead of "5 trout any size", how about "5 trout, none of which may be less than 30cm"?
  13. Drew. Cuttbow made me use a tie-able wire leader... the thing was bulky and black. I was thinking, dude we ain't gonna get anything fishing with this thing on! Boy was I wrong. There not leader shy at all. When there hungry, they gonna get it... even if it's attached to a telephone wire.
  14. Yes all good points. Always bring backup nail clippers / line cutters, etc too (if using berkley pike line that cuttbow uses) becuase sometimes an inexperienced Piker' will get a bit too aggressive with the first set of nail clippers Yea, reminds me I gotta dig up all that stuff (spreader, long shank hook remover, etc) from my dusty old tackle box that aint seen a day on the water since ... well... probably since 1998..
  15. rofl clive. Now your just helping Lynn get hits on this thread!!
  16. spring has moved. It now begins in June. Summer is from July 30 to Oct 30, then fall is until about Dec 15 or so, then winter is from jan to May. almost every year now. PS: clive your downright rotten.
  17. which aint that much.... LOL just kiddin boys. Your a lot tougher than me, braving that sh*t for a few fish... did you guys do much fishing or did you huddle by a fire and tell stories about "ya shoulda been here yesterday!." ?
  18. for one... I guess you didn't notice that missing pike line and 4 flies eh? LOL j/k should I cut down a telephone pole to fish with on sat? :D
  19. Happy bday hope yer out slaying 'em.
  20. Yeah it was on my 10ft 6WT by G&L FlyCraft. It's d darn good rod for pike got a ton of backbone and a flexible tip for good loading on the casts. I love this pike thing. i'm addicted already and eagerly awaiting my next trip
  21. sometimes the water is a lot "spookier" than the hard fast chop out in the middle, so when your fishing 1-2ft use a small indicator (something about the size of a large pea if using corkies), 4ft leader, and 2 small beadhead nymphs or if your fishing larger flies go with unweighted larger flies (stone's etc). By using the small indicator you wont be making such a "splat" on the water... and we all know what happens when a fish in 1-2 ft of water hears a big splat on the water. I have hit MOST of my fish this year on this system and carefull water selection, rather than throwing the huge weighted 9ft leader 2 flies split shot etc etc rig that everyone uses now
  22. lmfao.. I guess I'll have to go buy some o that material. Maybe in a certain color *grin*
  23. No way... you practically STOLE that cake Loyaleddie!!
