  1. Just finished a swap.............and the river is fiahable after a week of high water...........gonna have to pass on this one.......thanks
  2. http://gizmodo.com/368651/new-video-of-big...ning-its-spooky
  3. What smiley will you be using in May.................LOL
  4. Someone should read the MOU on Hebron(730 million barrel), 110 million for 4.9%...........plus $3.50 per barrel for processing............................hardly market price, you do the math at 6 billion start-up. Also 4.9% on White Rose expansion (214 million barrels) for 44 million (1.3 billion expansion) plus $3.50 per barrel, again market price.......don't think so. Weather NL is on the hook for incresaing cost.....................might be in the fine print, but I haven't seen it in the MOU and difenitly not in the press release. I'm sure Mr. Williams is aware of fine print....................unlike others.
  5. After spending all of yesterday on the river throwing clousers to slinks and residents browns with a wimpy rod, my shoulder is about to fall off. Anyone know of any GOOD sites that explains and demos the single haul.............I really need to learn this.
  6. I gave up on hackle and folding back and adding fibers for legs on nymph.....................still catching fish......................might be catching more with them..........................but i don't know that now do I.
  7. hopefully I'll be able to take you up on that.
  8. I was a little late starting, around 28 I guess, never even seen a fly rod until I was 19 or 20. I don't even know why I bought the crapy tire special, but I'm glad I did. I whipped the water with crystal river orange hoppers in the summer, catching the odd ounaniche now and then, didn't even know about fly fishing subsurface or what a nymph was. I found FFA/FFC while surfin the net and lurked for a year or so reading every single post for a while. Pretty much I would have to give credit to the forums mentioned as getting me started.
  9. I had four beautiful hours on the Waterford today, -3 and sunny. Landed only four fish, but two were my best ever, and wouldn't you know I didn't have a camera with me. The bigger one took the clouser as I stripped it back along a under cut, jumped twice and I got a new PB. Nothing compared to the Bow River browns but a very nice 2 #'er
  10. how much is a plane ticket to YYC???
  11. If you look inside a a piece of split shot (at least the one I use South Bend) they have three teeth in there which trap the line and lock on. If you squesh the sh!t out of them they will not lock down the leader..........a gentle pinch works much better.....................no pliers.......... no teeth. Not sure it this will work with you guys that can get your line moving a warp speed, but it works for me.
  12. If you make it out to the cabin the year, check out the Blue Charm fly shop........................the owner can tie a mean salmon fly.
  13. I really want to start, but don't seem to have the time, maybe next winter. I been at the vise alot this winter trying to get together a decent set of fishing flies, nymphs, wets, dries, salmon, etc. Hopefully next year I 'll just have to tie replacements instead of a whole inventory. I have been lucky to run into a couple of guys that can tie a "pretty decent fly" who have been quite helpful over the last 6 months or so.
  14. I agree, not much of a deal on the lower end rods............but what do you do.................fish a $250 launch or store a $200 graphite stick. I'm just happy I didn't have to wait 6 weeks.
  15. I'm after hearing that the repairs/replacment take some time to complete and that you may be out of commish. for up to six weeks. So instead of sending my rod to Sage, I just bought a new tip (suspect most brakages are tips) over the phone through their spare tip program. Cost was $50 (4pc Launch) just like the repair and I received it two weeks after purchase.
  16. very nice..........that reminds me................ I gotta get back at the salmon ties.
  17. Second winter for me. I'll be up for this one............if we can pick our own patterns.
  18. I'd be up for one, but a surprise fly swap doesn't work for me. Without a local material shop geared towards trout, material/schdule could be a problem.
  19. thanks will do
  20. playing around after tying up what I lost the last time out hook: nymph head: black bead tail: moose (long) body: black dubbing rib: copper wire thor: peacock herl wing: black krystal flash collar: black hen saddle
  21. Will I've been down about a half dozen times on a few different stretches of water, hard to be exploring water in the night. I've been picking up a few fish now and then, still haven't caught anything of size(14" being about the biggest so far) but a few of the locals have said that a couple 4 #'er and a small Salmon have been caught. Its still a little early but by the end of Feb fresh fish should be showing up. Nymphs (size 14/16) have been the ticket so far, pheasant tails, copper Johns and Tako homage pattern whatever it might be called. Pending weather, I'll be out Saturday morning before work checking out some new water. Heres a pic of typical fish I've been getting so far. They seem to have a few scales compared to the ones from ealier in the month.
  22. Swin' a two fly rig are ya King?
  23. yeah.........don't think I would be looking back at the camera with a semi smile if I walked up on momma bear and cub
  24. .............might want to check this out. http://www.danalco.com/htmls/products/products.shtml
  25. I did a little work on this fly...................skinnied it down a bit, fixed the wingcase, segmented head..........................a little on the messy side........SBS to follow.
