Beautiful day in the St. John's area, decided a day out with my son was in order. Through him the flyrod and a couple snacks in the truck and headed for a little sure shot spot that I know. Heres a few pics of the rest of the day. Hard to cast with a 9' 6 wt when your only 2'-6" Fish on First trout I know you don't hang trout, but I figured it would do less damage than a excited two year old...............look at that face

A man was on the water for his weekly fishing trip. He began his day with an 8 pound mud trout on the first cast and a 7 pounder on the second. On the third cast he had just caught his first ever rainbow over 11 pounds when his cell phone rang. It was a doctor notifying him that his wife had just been in a terrible accident and was in critical condition and in the ICU. The man told the doctor to inform his wife where he was and that he'd be there as soon as possible. As he hung up he realized he was leaving what was shaping up to be his best day ever on the water. He decided to get in a couple of more casts before heading to the hospital. He ended up fishing the rest of the morning, finishing his trip with a stringer like he'd never seen, with 3 rainbow trout over 10 pounds. He was jubilant.... Then he remembered his wife. Feeling guilty he dashed to the hospital. He saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about his wife's condition. The doctor glared at him and shouted, 'You went ahead and finished your fishing trip didn't you! I hope you're proud of yourself! While you were out for the past four hours enjoying yourself on the pond your wife has been languishing in the ICU! It's just as well you went ahead and finished because it will be more than likely the last fishing trip you ever take!' 'For the rest of her life she will require 'round the clock care. And you'll be her care giver forever!' The man was feeling so guilty he broke down and sobbed. The doctor then chuckled and said, 'I'm just f**kin' with ya. She's dead. What'd you catch?'

This spey lingo is way too confusing, way to many options in lines. Watched Rio's modern spey video the other day with Simon G, While I enjoyed the parts with him. These West coast guys with their snap t or z with a half perry poke on river right with down stream wind standing on one leg while scratching there arse was a bit confusing to a single handed who fishes the other side of the river when the wind is blowing the wrong way.

Just finished a swap.............and the river is fiahable after a week of high water...........gonna have to pass on this one.......thanks

Oil Sands Documentary Tonight (thursday)
126barnes replied to wongrs's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Someone should read the MOU on Hebron(730 million barrel), 110 million for 4.9%...........plus $3.50 per barrel for processing............................hardly market price, you do the math at 6 billion start-up. Also 4.9% on White Rose expansion (214 million barrels) for 44 million (1.3 billion expansion) plus $3.50 per barrel, again market price.......don't think so. Weather NL is on the hook for incresaing cost.....................might be in the fine print, but I haven't seen it in the MOU and difenitly not in the press release. I'm sure Mr. Williams is aware of fine print....................unlike others. -
After spending all of yesterday on the river throwing clousers to slinks and residents browns with a wimpy rod, my shoulder is about to fall off. Anyone know of any GOOD sites that explains and demos the single haul.............I really need to learn this.

How Did You Get Started Fly Fishing?
126barnes replied to Snowwolf's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I was a little late starting, around 28 I guess, never even seen a fly rod until I was 19 or 20. I don't even know why I bought the crapy tire special, but I'm glad I did. I whipped the water with crystal river orange hoppers in the summer, catching the odd ounaniche now and then, didn't even know about fly fishing subsurface or what a nymph was. I found FFA/FFC while surfin the net and lurked for a year or so reading every single post for a while. Pretty much I would have to give credit to the forums mentioned as getting me started. -
Flyfishing St. John's Nl

I had four beautiful hours on the Waterford today, -3 and sunny. Landed only four fish, but two were my best ever, and wouldn't you know I didn't have a camera with me. The bigger one took the clouser as I stripped it back along a under cut, jumped twice and I got a new PB. Nothing compared to the Bow River browns but a very nice 2 #'er -
If you look inside a a piece of split shot (at least the one I use South Bend) they have three teeth in there which trap the line and lock on. If you squesh the sh!t out of them they will not lock down the leader..........a gentle pinch works much better.....................no pliers.......... no teeth. Not sure it this will work with you guys that can get your line moving a warp speed, but it works for me.

If you make it out to the cabin the year, check out the Blue Charm fly shop........................the owner can tie a mean salmon fly.
-
I really want to start, but don't seem to have the time, maybe next winter. I been at the vise alot this winter trying to get together a decent set of fishing flies, nymphs, wets, dries, salmon, etc. Hopefully next year I 'll just have to tie replacements instead of a whole inventory. I have been lucky to run into a couple of guys that can tie a "pretty decent fly" who have been quite helpful over the last 6 months or so.

I agree, not much of a deal on the lower end rods............but what do you do.................fish a $250 launch or store a $200 graphite stick. I'm just happy I didn't have to wait 6 weeks.
-
I'm after hearing that the repairs/replacment take some time to complete and that you may be out of commish. for up to six weeks. So instead of sending my rod to Sage, I just bought a new tip (suspect most brakages are tips) over the phone through their spare tip program. Cost was $50 (4pc Launch) just like the repair and I received it two weeks after purchase.
