  1. SAWEEEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!!!! Thanks Silver! I can't wait for today to end now. That looks fun. Thanks.
  2. You might be shooting yourself in the foot they might close a lot of streams to NO FISHING but so be it if it saves the population. It's an easy cost effective solution. I think that eventualy Alberta streams are going to have to follow suit with a lot of popular american world class streams and adopt stocking programs to keep populations up. Im not in favor with these methods i prefer regulation and enforcement but that is not the alberta way. Love your cutties now because they are going to be stockies in the near future. I will write a letter this weekend to support your effort this might be one of thoes rare occasions that Alberta gets it right if there are enough voices coming forth.
  3. I have seen springbrook make some pretty huge custom ones and he would be able to go there and get sized up.

  7. advice from my Dad when i was young-(to encourage me to keep going when the fishing was slow.) #3.5 you can't catch fish if your line isn't in the water.
  8. #2 May i Repeat STAY OUT OF THE WATER!!! until you have fished it and its time to move on but for the LOVE of pete stay OUT of the DAMN WATER!!!!!. #46 if the guy your fishing with needs you to net his fish ALWAYS hit the line he dosen't deserve to count that one anyways. #4 Always count Fish, Women and Money these are all things you can brag about

  11. Ya i have to say the calgary Wholesale sports has improved big time. I know they earned a reputation in the past for bad service but i have had great service there since christmas i think they are responding well to complaints and resolved a lot of their issues. If you tie flies i find that you need to go to a few places to get what you need and i get great service from. Wholesale, FishTales and Southbow. Is it just me or has anyone noticed a change at Home Depot. Before LOwes came to town you had to prctically grab an employee by the neck in home depot to get them to talk to you NOW i cant make it out of the store with out ten employees asking ne if i need help. BIG CHANGE. but kinda ticks me off a little that they didn't fell the need to improve till Big competition came to town. One thing it do like is the prices there have been some GREAT sales lately.
  12. I think it looks pretty. My 7 feathers are on the way .....I got the purple ones.
  13. Well a guy can only take so much of this crappy crappy crappy weather after last weeks chinook that never came and no end of this deep freeze in sight me and a buddy decided it was time to take matters into our own hands . We loaded up the car after work on thursday and headed down to IdahoFalls to warmer weather and some truly Epic winter fishing . They have so many fish in the rivers down there it is stoooopid in four days we were into hundreds of fish a nice break from this crap weather and home just in time to catch a chinook definitely worth the 10 hr drive of course it was only an 8 hr drive for us. Hey we even bagged a nice Muley Buck just out side of Claresholm stupid deer .....Run toward the lights!!! SMACK. Darn. He did walk off but i think hes coyote food kinda crappy. Henrys Fork Snake River that is a GIGANTIC osprey nest on top of the bridge X marks the spot the snow was so deep it was crazy but the weather was great Over fifty of these each on the first day amazing fish with big appetites We call this hole "The hungry beaver" that huge tree was stripped clean. This River is not the Henrys. I am not allowed to share the name it is a local secret and has managed not to be published in any magazines as of yet. It also yielded dozens and dozens of fish. The scenery was amazing in the mountains this creek reminded me a lot of the Crow. A beauty from Frenchman's creek. The robins were there and the birds were singing spring is on its way lets hope she makes a speedy trip north so we can get on the river soon and shake off this brutal winter.

  16. THAT is going to be sooooo much fun when you hook into a monster trout.
  17. Highlight of the year for me was discovering a high apine lake this year in BNP that is not named or on a map, I was sitting at the top of a pass i've sat on probably 4 dozen times looking down the valley, in the valley there lies a few small ponds i've never paid much attention to and before my very eyes the surface of one of the ponds starts to errupt with hundreds of swirls my jaw dropped, the jerkey i was chewing fell out of my mouth and i *hit my pants. Unfortunatly i had 13 boy scouts with me who had no interest in bushwaking too this lake after we had just finished a weekend of a 50km death march (im kind of a basterd but it's good for them). But i did make the trip up the next weekend with some good buddies and well it was four days of fishing i will never forget.(and yes i took my buddies on the death march too and my boy scouts out hiked them)
  18. I know exactly what stream im going to use that black fly on thanks for sharing.
  19. Holy Shat!! that is crazy. I hope 2011 has mercy on you. Sounds like a nice truck. I have to admit i wish i was a fly on the wall when you were stuck on deerfoot....not sayin it was funny just sayin it would have been very entertaining.

  21. A member recently posted a topic with the title ""my first cast" and it got me thinking about my first cast.......I had to think for a little bit but then it came to me and i was taken back to a fantastic memory form my childhood. I will share my story and would love to hear others. I am not a writer so bear with me. When i was young i had the pleasure of going with my dad to visit my cousin in Kitimat B.C. to fish for steelhead. Growing up we gear fished and i was obsessed with fishing, every birthday i got fishing gear. I was 14 years old and excited beyond description for this trip and found it hard to belive that i had never heard of my cousin from Kitimat who not only fished but owned Northcoast Anglers Tackle Shop (which since then has moved to Terrace). The first day we arrived we got outfitted turned out we had a lot of the wrong gear I remember trying on waders for the first time and thinking when would i ever wade over my knees and how ridiculous it was to have waders up to my arm pits. Heading out onto the river was exciting and i expected to catch fish after fish after fish but i was sorely mistaken the methods were different and new, we were center pin fishing and you had to be FAST when that bobber went down you needed to be on it the steelhead only gave you a second to react i missed A LOT of chances. But as most of us do, we have mercy on kids and my cousin hooked a few that i got to reel in. The next few days fishing was slow we hiked kilometers of bush and river and i quickly learned why waders come up to your arm pits in some areas i had my dad on one side and my cousin on the other and they would drag me across the river. On our last day my cousins friend (a fly fisherman) came along to a big juciy bend that everyone was sure they were going to catch fish on but again it was slow and so they decided to take the chance to put a fly rod in my hand with some quick instruction they left me to mess around and swing some flies i remember that i couldnt cast very well but i figured out that if i got some line out i could get the current to take a bunch and swing the line out. It wasn't long and i felt my first big tug and i had a fish on it was pandamonium and soon i landed my first fish on the fly a 3 pound doly varden not a steel head but i was pumped and i spent the next hr landing five more. Before we left that day i also landed an 16 lb steel head on my casting rod the only one landed in our group the whole trip and it's picture hangs on my wall at home today. Before we departed Kitimat to come home my cousin gave me a gift of a fly rod and urged me to learn the art, and a fly fisherman was born. I wish i had a picture of that Dolyvarden i caught but alas none was taken. well thats the story of my first cast hope to hear more thanks for reading. Jared.
  22. does it have to be something i tied? cuz i don't tie very many of my own flies espesially the ones i like (i have very limited skills) but i do have a favorite fly.
