On the intro page to the FFC site, Rick Reeves (rickr) has put together a great article called the "nymphing primer". it contains some great info. http://flyfishcalgary.com/nymphing_primer.php As important, if not more importantly is the "natural" drift of the fly and mending to acheive it! You can choose the right fly, but if it isn't drifting naturally the fish will not take it! You can also look at the many reports on here and on sponsoring shops web pages and take a look at their various hatch charts... Basically you can get to know which bugs are going to be hatching (and then hatching) for the various seasons - which are "relatively" consistent each year. Use the nymph version at anytime before & during the hatching of the specific adult insect (some variations obviously)... I'd be happy to head out with you one day to show you what I know (or don't know ) when the water levels settle down, if you want... As well, you can hire one of the many guides that sponsor this site for a 1/2 day walk and wade (and I'm sure you will learn A TON from them - more then from me, I'd say)... P

Here are a few that consistently produce for me (some seasonal variability): Nymphs (most times under BH Wire SJW) BH/non BH PT nymph BH/non BH Prince nymph BH/non BH GRHE BH/non BH copper johns (assorted colours) Caddis emergers (pupa & soft hackle) All nymphs in the 12 - 18 sz Golden Stones (many different varieties & sizes) Streamers Bowriver bugger (black, white, olive) Black flashabugger (size 6 - 8) Clouser minnows (black/white, brown/white, chartreuse/white) Dries Skid bitch EH Cddis Dry (or CDC caddis) PMD BWO hoppers I use a 3 fly rig, SJW and any two of the above nymphs (alternate) I'm sure a other guys have their faves too... P

Tons (tonnes)!! Night and Day! No comparison! P

And fly fishing is an "activity"!! P

Welcome to the millennium Taco! I guess you'll have to find a new use for your stash of these: P

So you "splashed the pot", eh!! Knowing that you're a newbie, your buddy should totally understand (as disappointing as it was, he was in "teaching mode", after all!), but should have asked if he could have his turn... I know the buddies I fish with "communicate" a lot (sharing info, etc.) and switch/share spots, as well (sometimes we are that close together depending on where we are fishing), and even sometimes we are both fishing the same run and even alternate... Once I invited Kyle (Annapolis) to fish where there were rising fish just up from me (10' - 15') - they had walked up to a run I was fishing... After he and his buddy caught a couple on the dry, he insisted that I come up and try to get one (to which I obliged). Some guys will be bothered by the situation you speak of, but a "true" fishing buddy won't loose too much sleep over it!! LoL P *Edit* I even poached BBT's water once . He's still doesn't let me live that one down!!

Don't forget the corruption of politicians/governments!! All gov'ts & politicians are corrupt (goes with the territory) but to varying extents/degrees! I'm sure one of the reasons why we haven't heard anything about the devastation in the Niger Delta (and even in Saudi) is b/c the oil companies pay the gov't officials off!! Couldn't get away with that (in the case of "the Gulf") in the USA! P

I'd say that could be true if it was sent by a person that the reciever doesn't know (e-bay or from a specific shop/business, etc.)... But if it's from a "personal" friend or family member the argument could be made that it is/was in fact a gift (whether or not it actually is - taking personal ethics out of the equation, of course). P

I'd say during the run off of '05 it would not have been safe (familiar with the river or not!)! But that's just me (former white water rafting guide & 12 years as a lifeguard & water safety instructor). P
