  1. Austin, What was the area like around the lake?! Last time I was up there some "Random campers" with a pitbull left the area a mess with a stringer of fish dead in the water (before they changed the regs), a burning towel on their (still smoldering) fire, toilet paper and sh*t everywhere, a half full gallon of colemen fuel on the trail... So... Inquiring minds what to know? P
  2. Either steel leader material (tied after 15 lb+ with a swivel) or 40 lb mono - I've only used steel! Question, couldn't one just use a regular (spin casting) 6" - 8" pike leader with a snap swivel at the other end? I would make changing flies a breeze?! P
  3. Here's what Jim Stelfox had to say: Regarding the regs. that specify no fishing within 25 yards downstream of an obstacle (dam or weir), this was primarily intended to prevent people from fishing where fish are stacked up while trying to migrate upstream through a fish ladder. Since there is no fish ladder at this dam, I'd be surprised if the officers would charge anyone for fishing right below the dam. However, the best thing to do is to pose the question to one of the officers in Claresholme or High River, since they are the ones who are responsible for enforcing that regulation and would be able to tell you. Funny thing is, I called the Claresholm office and they "passed the buck" on me and told me it wasn't their jurisdiction, it was Forestry that was responsible for this area!! Nice!! P
  4. Well the BIG reason for all the research is for the "Educational Opportunity"!! Now I know how to get LSD's online, and pull a land title online for next time! Then, I can look up a contact name/address and get permission!! P
  5. Other then fly schools, Hawgstopper or Maxwell are their best bets P
  6. I've read on the "redneck" forum that it is ok (not that that makes it official, but...) and that it is listed on the canadian customs/immigration website - so you should look on there. P
  7. Awesome vid & effort! Too bad the Japanese can now slaughter him/her!! :$*%&: P
  8. If you get it sent via UPS expedited (overnight or whatever the quickest is or if it is oversized, etc.), then brokerage, etc. is included. If you go the slowest (cheapest) route, then it is not and you will get dinged at your door (or depot). P
  9. So here's an update... Haven't heard back from SRD. So to satisfy my curiosity, I've pulled the land title of the area in question (little bit of a task b/c the LSD came back as a cancelled title, so I had to do a little bit of work to find the title). A couple of things stand out. There is ABSOLUTELY NO historical reference listed on the title for this particular 1/4 sec. Unlike the title for the Sara's land (I've seen a portion of the title and they have 2 historical references relating the dates 1884 & 1904 - I can't include the reference in this post due to copyright as I didn't pull the title). Also there is no specific listing to bed and bank rights, but I understand that they are most likely not listed. There are quite a few caveats and easements, etc. b/c of O & G/Utility ROW, etc. and I'm getting some assistance with interpreting some of that... But initial interpretation by a couple of people that have been helping me out (they work with land titles every day) is this guy is full of Sh*t - but I'm still not 100% with that! I will continue to update... P
  10. That doesn't really deter any of the people I see down there fishing presently (I see them there when I drive down the Deerfoot)...
  11. Call 311 and they will direct your concern to Bylaw. It might take Bylaw a few days to get back to you, so don't expect instant action! P
  12. Thanks Mike, I couldn't find it in the 'act' Cheers, P P.S. I'm having a "discussion" with a buddy and need to be right
  13. Ahhhhh, that's why I can't find it in the regs, it's part of the "act". Thanks Brian! P
  14. I know it was brought up on here a little while ago and I can't seem to find it in the regs... can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks, Peter
  15. Yep!! That sounds about right!! LoL P
  16. I was a little surprised that they gave him the option of shipping via USPS - no brokerage with them!! So that's good to know! P
  17. Yeah he did mention that he has seen my car there before, so I presume if I park there again, he'll slash my tires or break my windows!!
  18. Yes thanks Chris, I have this doc. What info is required to send to srd?! Google map ref. or more detailed land description? The other issue, is that this particular land owner has blocked off access to the bridge - which I know he cannot do (oh and has barbwire across the stream as well, which is a no no, as well)!! P
  19. I know this has been discussed previously, and I don't want to get into the story. We met an angry land owner (or son of the land owner) tonight and (to make a long story short) he said we were not able to fish the stream from the bank/high water mark as their land was deeded (historically), etc., and they owned everything except the actual stream bed (and thats how we needed to access the stream and fish the stream... I would like to confirm this. How do I? Can someone list the steps on how I can research this (or assist me in doing so)? *edit* I understand the act and the info from the AB Gov't, but what I want to research is this particular plot of land... Thanks, P
  20. Interesting, though the size they list is too big for me!!! P
  21. Love to see you use the view finder underwater!! LoL jk P
  22. I am just finishing painting our house (cedar siding) previously painted with an elastomeric paint (about 10 years ago). Painted with a stain this time... I had to do at least 3 coats as we went darker over lighter and that's what we needed to cover the lighter paint). Now I'm finding in quite a few spots the paint is bubbling (air bubbles)?! What has caused this, and what can I do (pop the bubbles?!)? Will I need to do yet another coat? Thanks in advance. Peter
  23. Good point Marc. maybe if a small group of fly anglers could go that would be pretty proactive move (anyone from the Hook and hackle club interested?)! P
  24. Thanks for the compliment Brian, but I am not able to do this and had the same concerns all of you had... I do think that you should point these concerns out to the organizer as maybe they didn't realize that people had these concerns... I have replied to my buddy that forwarded this to me to pass along to the organizers... Have a great weekend all! Deb and I are off to fish the Adams!! P
