  1. To follow up with my previous post... I use ~2' of mono (20 lb or more depending on the size you are expecting), then a swivel and then 6" - 8" of wire... The simple swtich for my bully rig is to just swap out the wire for 12" - 16" of mono (or longer depending on the depth you are fishing)...
  2. Use a swivel in between! Problem solved! P
  3. I would just like to add an update... I have had a recent conversation with Ben @ IckyFlyWorks and he has assured me that he has changed a few procedures and expectations with his supplier(s) and that he now insists that they use Mustad or Daiichi hooks... I've also asked him to ask his supplier to also thread (and head cement) the shanks so that the material doesn't slide down... Nonetheless I very much appreciate his high level of (individual) customer service and wanting to make things right... I have assured him that I will still be buying select files from him! Cheers, Peter
  4. I just received my 1st shipment of flies from reelflies and I'm very impressed with the quality of hooks and ties. I've had issues with icky's unravelling, sliding down and bending out and I've tested these new ones and they seem much better!! They are slightly more expensive then icky ( by a few cents) but not that much of a difference. Don't get me wrong I will still order a few select flies from icky but I think I'm a convert for the majority!! P P. S I realize icky is a sponsor so I hope this unbiased "review" won't get pulled for the fact that it's not a glowing review of a sponsor ( time will tell)..
  5. Mike, Here's a few from me...
  6. Bass!! That's a good one!! Good luck with that!
  7. What part of the city do you reside and how much $ do you want to spend?! Nicks is great but very expensive!! Vina's in the NW is great and reasonable as is Bona Roma across from COP next to planet coffee!! Spiros is great but pricey as well and I think they have moved from 17 Ave SW. P
  8. I have a relatively small tree trimming job... Can anyone reco a good arborist... I have a few requests out already through other sources, but more is always better... Thanks, Peter
  9. I hope Brad gave you the FFC "Friends and Family" discount!! LoL
  10. Talk to bcube he was there a couple of years ago!!
  11. Hey Curtis Is this a new or pre owned boat?! From a private individual or business?! I've read that Hyde, Clack, etc., will take care of that as they know the drill. P
  12. Simms has a custom program. I'm sure it's pricy though....
  13. So when I spoke to Ron this afternoon, he said it is a CFD (Fire Dept) launch, and was NOT technically a public launch?! Hmmm Also he mentioned that last time he contacted the contractor/builder he said it was not locked but that "Twist ties" were used to keep the gate close, but NOT locked!! Twist ties!! Really!! I'm skeptical about that one!! I confirmed on Sunday that both locks on that chain were indeed locked (and didn't see any twist ties)!! P
  14. We got lucky yesterday as we were the 1st boat to launch at Glenmore! Yeah I just called and left a message with Ron as per Jahad's previous note. P
  15. There is a catch, this week, however!! With the long weekend approaching, I suspect they will go up Thursday or Friday!! P
  16. Gil and I went to launch just now and the bastard has a chain up to block access. Didn't bring any bolt cutters. Put a call into 311. I guess we'll have to launch with the hoards at glenmore.
  17. Sean, REMEMBER our pledge!! What happens on the river stays on the river!! LoL P
  18. What's going to make you happy?! That being said if you make enough to get yourself out of the hole, what changes are you going to make to keep yourself out of the hole in the future?!
  19. The Garmin 60 CSx is one of the better GPS units on the market (best reviews, etc.), the replacement is not as good! GPS city (or whatever it is called had them on sale last fall or matched what Costco.ca had them listed for)... SHould be a few new old stock still kicking around. P
  20. Taco, you made me grin( r ) with that one!!
  21. Colin was it you that told me that there are only a couple factories that actually make the lines to different specs?!
  22. Unfortunately there are way more asshats then responsible folk!!
  23. Don't cut it back just yet (if at all)... Try it out first to see if the sink rate is what you are looking for with the depth of water you usually fish ("technically" sink tips should be used with unweighted flies). 16" - 18" tippet should be adequate up to 24" or so... For bullies I usually go 16" - 18", swivel and then another 12" of tippet (or steel leader for pike). P
