  1. Right on Wrecker, had to get out of the stream so there was enough room for toons to get by me a couple times, stick to reasonable sized waters.
  2. I love the relaxed pace of fishing my LL's and if they feel similar they may be worth it but that's a lot of dough for a rod. I think I'll have to make the ones I have last for another 30ish years.
  3. Beautiful photos, what are going to do your second year in Ab.
  4. Leader and tippet to nine or ten feet and I'll make less leader and more tippet if I feel more stealth is required. Tippet is usually the last thing I'll change & I find if I add Gink or what ever to the tippet and leader EXCEPT for the last six inch's or so it helps keep it from dragging my fly under.
  5. Thank goodness we have a guy like taco to try these things.
  6. D10 has worked well for me as well salt or fresh and has really taken some hard licks and continues to tick. I have to say though those are some nice pics. kinda rhymes eh.
  7. Thank you all, its a fun site that helps the long long winters pass.
  8. Lack of public access certainly makes a Jet boat look attractive, even if you hate those guys.
  9. Well I hate to admit that if I mention locations on the forum I almost always lie, I'm sure you have all heard about fishermen.
  10. I've spent time in the back country and I've always carrying spray (and actually practised getting it out and ready) for the last 25 years or so, every can I've ever owned had a best before date. When I fish alone in certain areas that I know have large concentrations of G Bear I carry a Bear Banger, a nickel plated one (that I've actually practised with) that is completely legal. I suppose I'm not a Grizzly Adams like it sounds like most of you are but I also have had several close encounters over the years including one with a pair of three year old boars Grizzlies (info. provided by C.O. when I reported them) who were very inquisitive and plenty big enough. I've never had to discharge my firearm under those circumstances but I would not hesitate if I thought it was absolutely necessary. I have to say it takes a special someone to think its somehow noble and correct to be concious while a gbear eats your entrails. I can say Bears seem to have changed in the last ten years or so and the chances are they will take a second look or two before they amble off is good, they seem to have little fear. Sorry for contributing to the thread hijack but the macho crap every time this comes up just gets my goat. Only 1500 days in the woods Taco I thought you were a fishing enthusiast.
  11. Great report sounds like you had a blast, thanks for sharing.
  12. I can't say I agree with the no logging stance but I do have to say I have respect for the people out there today at -30 letting their feelings be known. Kudos but why no news papers or global tv?
  13. Laker is my bet but don't leave us hanging.
  14. You read me correctly DryFly. In regards to fire suppression I might suggest an ounce of prevention, for the cost of fighting a single wild fire we could cut wide fire breaks around many of our forest bound towns and enable fire crews to concentrate on saving communities rather than spending big money tearing up the forest to save the forest. It is always after the fact we look at these types of measures. i understand the logging will begin east of hwy 774 and north of beaver Mines Lake so the only major drain effected now will be Beaver Mines Creek. We'll have to keep both eyes on them to see how they do.
  15. Great stories, keep em coming. I gotta add that once I got the bug I was a periodical freak and read them all religiously. They have seemed to loose their lustre and I really can't tell last months from last years, now I'm catching up on the classics FF style like R.H. Brown.
  16. I’ve seen this come up occationally in different topics so I thought I would throw it out and see if we can have some discution about our roots. I’ll start it out with my own tale. I was first introduced to fishing before I can even remember by my father, we were strictly bait anglers but we both enjoyed it a great deal. We also very much enjoyed the places we would go to fish and my love of the mountains and the wild places were nutured by him. When I reached my mid teens Dad bought me one of those Fly Fishing starter kits for Christmas. It came with a little 10 page instruction pamphlet that showed you how to fashion the bits of materials provided into Flies it also had the last two pages dedicated to casting instructions complete with diagrams. I dug out an old fibre glass rod and no name reel out of the basement we had inherited from an old friend of the family when he pass away. The line was like a watch spring and I remember flailing away trying desperatly to get line out until one by one I ripped my creations all to pieces before they could even get wet. My dad was of Dutch heritage & so am I so it wasn’t determination that drove me it was stubborness. That was more than thirty years ago & I can say my flies are certainly better tied and my equipment is certainly of higher quality but my casting still is hack however I can put it where I want. The enjoyment I take from the sport couldn’t be greater & I’m still doing it my way and I suppose for my self there was no other way.
  17. Harvest responsibly or let it burn. The scars from the fire suppression in the same area from the Lost Creek fire and the Cherry Hill fire will still be there in a thousand years. Some of the fire breaks cut with D-9 cats are straight across country & Creek and were useless as the fires seemed to crossed them with ease.
  18. Nice! can't see anyone arguing about that.
  19. Haven't been there in a couple weeks. The water level was low then and there was a ton of leafs in the water so the fish were very spooky and the catching was slow. The rain might have given them a boost.
  20. Way off topic or may be not. May be we could hold the people responsible that are dividing up our tax dollars. We have fund raisers for far to many things that should be the responsibility of Government. School's, Hospitals, and Fisheries Enforcement come to mind. We have expertise hired to make tough decisions that should be in the best interests of us all, its still up to our elected officials to set a direction. Bleep the Bull Trout long live the Mcleod Rainbows.
  21. It's deja vu all over again, I thought I all ready posted on this thread before? How about being on topic. May be we could create some unnatural natural barriers and try to work above them, draw a line in the sand. For example I noticed the Rainbow infestation of the upper Castle's accelerated greatly after the extreme high water in 95 blasted the Castle Falls allowing easier up stream migration. Just dreaming out loud.
