  1. Sorry to hear of your tough break. How close is to close? I'd say stepping on your rod is to close. How much worse can these never ending stories get. Your a better man than me I would have freaked.
  2. Looks like a lot of Bull.
  3. Great news on the heavy hit. People shouldn't hesitate to call, don't matter if previous calls went wrong for what ever reason. There is the chance you can make a cheat pay up but you could be rewarded, a close friend recieved the knoledge he did right and $300.00 that was of soon reinvested in fancier that usual fly fish gear. Keep smiling.
  4. Nice Brown. Even if its 7 inchs if it has fins and breaths water its a fish.
  5. Drove through the gap last thursday and counted 21 vehilces in the Bobs Creek area, outstanding fishery but.
  6. i have pushed the 3 level several times and have hooked them all on floating line with never more that 10 leader. No expert but lazy abush predators. I don't make this shat up.
  7. It rips at my heart to Don but we are laying off teachers in Alberta so what are we going to do?
  8. From my experience with my much beloved wife of 21 years after sking (nordic and alpine), golfing and snorkeling the very best way for her to learn is not from me. I found it very benificial for her development at what ever to learn from a very knoledgeable, flattering, handsome, fit and younger proffesional guides/teacher. My apologies to the Bow river guides I've encountered as I'm afraid they really have to pick up there game to be effective at teaching girls (I'm sure they are knoledgable). The best part is she comes back having learned something to increase her enjoyment of what ever and I get a day to enjoy doing what ever. I don't make this shat up.
  9. I read the history of the Castle but I didn't see a couple of events I'm privy to. I met a real old guy years ago up on the Lost Creek and he was kind enough to share a bunch of info with me most of it I'll only be sharing with trusted blood relatives on my death bed. The rest was about early intrusions into the Carbondale Castle area, most of it I confirmed by following his leads to the places they dragged the saw mills to at various site around the mountains and set them up, only cut lumber was hauled to Blairmore then. He was a gem and his information led to many wonderful adventures. He told me both valleys were extensivly logged in 1919ish and again in the 50's. Certainly pristine would not apply. I personally remember the last pine beatle thing in the early 80's when there was a ton of lumber taken out of the B. Mines Lake and West and South Castle area. Use it or loose it. We need to make sure its done as responsibly as possible.
  10. Nice shots I've been sitting on the fence over a new camera & this should put me over.
  11. I'll wager it smells funny.
  12. I've had a couple times where a brood of water fowl was above me on local streams. Couldn't get by them and had to chase them upstream all day, didn't do the fishing any good.
  13. Sorry but I have to ask, are you tail squezers or forkers.
  14. I've seen a sign for a place called Nestle Inn. Its on the river near Burmis but thats all I know about it.
  15. The most ugly thing I ever pulled out of the Bow was my fishing buddy Grit.
  16. May be for the same reason most teenagers have more energy than me, maybe?
  17. Don't forget inbreeding and introduced species as risks. I certainly hope there is hope for what seems to be a truely Alberta fish. I'm all for Bulls but their distribution seems wide & the protection they are recieving seems to have them well established every where I've fished in the last few years. Save the A.B. this is an issue I could really get on board with.
  18. It would have to be a Cownose ray I caught beach fishing in Costa Rica, didn't have a clue what was on the line but I knew it was strong. Worked it into shallow water 15 feet from where I was standing (in the water) when it broke surface. Its teeth were bared (lots and sharp) and its stinger was stabbing wildly, well I can safely say I nearly shat myself as it was obvious he could get to me before I ever got to dry land. After taking a half second to consider my next move the Ray decided everything for me when he stuck his pug nose on the sand and powered off into some rocks and snapped me off, thank goodness. The Tico's who were whatching thought it was hilarious and it was certainly memorable.
  19. Hate is such a strong word.
  20. I'm no pro but I'm old. With the dries all year I've found tail waters able to give you a chance all year. The poor bugs are so bleeped up by the relativly constant water temperatures I've watch their wings freeze solid when they try to rise off the water and the trout were ready even out of (dry) season and half froze to suck em up. I've seen super tiny bugs in the middle of ice flows in -10 in February which might be handy if you fish size 32's. One beautiful memory was a day in Feb. 07 when I walked up behind a beautiful cutt. who was feeding with what I call total abandon, sucking back every bug in range. I couldn't see a thing on or in the water but as the only dries I had were a half chewed hopper and a mostly chewed Thorax Olive the Olive got the call. Well of corse I was excited and cast a horrible figure eight with my fly line right on its head with the fly missing the mark by ten feet however the cutt. would not be put off & covered the distance in a heart beat and slammed it. 17 or 18 inches and in full beautiful spawn colors (cutts seem to dress up early for the party) what a hoot. More times I just froze my ass especially in dec. Jan. Feb. good luck.
  21. $1.50 in the flyshop priceless in the middle of no where. Do people really tie 20 flies an hour wow.
  22. What else effects fish energy, jumps & runs other than water temps?
  23. Fly fishing certainly isn't the simplest way to catch fish. Dynamite or gill nets are far simpler.
  24. I suppose I was just responding to Neal's comment on the work through Blairmore. It was the early eighties a fair bit of time before the dam. As I remember it a great deal of the work done was dynamited out of the way after the first ice dam hung up on some of it diverting water into Blairmore. As it is the stretch was one of my secret locations and still is. Right through town and along the highway with some decent sized trout available and never another soul.
