  1. I'm not a chemist, but I took took enough organic chemistry to know that the main ingredients of creosote (phenols, cresol, and guaiacol) are all organic compunds. Therefore your lady gardener friend did indeed have an organic garden. Terry
  2. I have a rule that I follow religiously -- after any number of beers greater than zero, I will not go near my table saw nor my tying bench. I recommend this rule to everyone.
  3. How to go Canucks, just in time for the Easter bunny.
  4. There are earlier threads dealing with this topic, so it's worth your time to do some searches. Usually when this topic comes up, the consensus is that fly tying kits are not the way to go. You're better off buying a modestly priced but reasonable quality vice, basic equipment like bobin, scissors etc., and a selection of materials that will allow you to tie a few flies that you actually use when you're fishing. After you get a bit of experience, you'll know what you need to buy next. Terry
  5. Recipe for Campfire Roasted Squirrel 4-6 fresh squirrels 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt (optional) 1/4 teaspoon creole seasoning (optional) Directions: Prep Time: 1 hr Total Time: 1 3/4 hrs 1) If fresh squirrel is used skin, and leave whole, splitting the breast bone lengthwise to open up the rib cage. 2) Brush the oil over the squirrel then sprinkle the seasionings liberally all over. 3) Pull the hot coals to one side away from the main part of the fire. 4) Either stake the squirrel on a cleaned tree limb over the coals or use a metal grate over the coals. 5) Rotate periodiaclly and don't over cook as the meat is real lean and will dryout fast.
  6. I think the first part of Lefty's argument is irrelevant -- i.e. the part about the fish "weighing" more out of the water. Actually it weighs the same, it's just that there's no bouyancy force pushing upward while the gravitational force pulls down. When Lefty gets further into the discussion he doesn't really use the weight issue, it's the fact that the fish is freer to twist and turn in the air than it is in the water(that's a viscosity thing, not a weight issue), and hence can exert more force on the line. That's always been my reason for bowing to the fish as junior puts it, and like him, I still get my fair share of LLR's. Terry
  7. Hey Chris, is that you sitting next to Dave? Terry
  8. And where has that gotten you? Both teams are out of the playoffs, and we get a good draft pick. I like the Oiler's situation a lot better. Oh, and btw, any Flames fan who wants to talk history with an Oilers fan, is going to lose. One cup ---- even Toronto has more. Terry
  9. Only one more year to go before you're on the gravy train. Have a great day. Terry
  10. That's ok Chris, you're the exception -- the passionate part I mean. I have to X2 it with Botangles regarding the non-Flames fans knowing more than Flames fans though. Terry
  11. Don, you might want to talk to some of the people in the Kilpatrick Flyfishing Club in Saskatoon. Their website is Kilpatrick Flyfishers. Their forum is at http://www.kilpatrickflyfishers.com/about-...scussion-forum/
  12. Colour doesn't matter to me, I never get to see it. Terry
  13. Brian, I hope you're out fishing and celebrating somewhere on the Crow today -- despite the snow. Have a great day. Terry
  14. X2 I've got a 36" wide roll of the heavy duty wax paper they used to use for vapour barriers, and it is the absolute best for this purpose. I'm really enjoying this thread -- Tungsten, keep the pictures coming. And btw, you appear to have even more clamps than Norm. Terry
  15. I've posted this before, but your post made me think of it again. Back on topic, I got a 7wt Sage 99 (9' 9" hence the name) last year, which I've used mostly for chironomiding, and I love it. Since I don't fish bigger water like the Bow, I haven't used it for nymphing, which is primarily what it is intended for, but I'm sure it would be great for that too. Terry
  16. While we're doing reminders, don't forget that if you buy your license online, you won't be able to get a reprint from a license vendor, in the event you leave home without your license. Similarly, if you buy your license from a vendor, you won't be able to do a reprint from your computer. Dumb system, but that's the way it is. Terry
  17. Another good material for the wing case is Wapsi Thin Skin. The colurs I prefer are "mottled oak - golden stone" and "mottle oak - natural" (numbers TSK0121 and TSK0199 respectively.) Very nice ties Mitchell and SD. Terry
  18. And here I thought I had the only remaining container of Overton's. Unlike you though, my single container has lasted me about 25 years, and it's only 1/3 gone. At the current pace it'll last till I'm 116. Terry PS mine still has the price sticker on it -- $4.95 at the Fishin Hole.
  19. Hey Clive, isn't there a TV program about DIY guys like you? Terry
  20. I've used Montana Shipping -- specifically the depot in Eureka, Montana, and it's a great service. Perhaps not too convenient for Calgarians, but if you make the trip down in the summer, there's lots of good fishing along the way. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather spend a few bucks on gas than get ripped off by UPS. Oh, and if you go to Eureka, stop in for lunch at Cafe Jax, just a few doors north of Montana Shipping. It's a great old time diner, and the food is great. Terry
  21. Pick up a starling skin -- the hackle is good to for tying small soft hackles. Terry
  22. Here's my fav for April on the Crow -- can't wait for that. Terry
  23. Hey Andrew, Clive -- show some respect for your elders eh. Gotta go shovel more snow -- sigh. Let's hope it doesn't melt all at once, or we're gong to have one hell of a runoff this year. Terry
