Incident At Police Outpost Lake
dutchie replied to ÜberFly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
very sad indeed , family man , i just hate hearing about stuff like this , from some of the posts , sounds like he was a heck of a nice chap , prayers for his family , this post just sucks bigtime , him with a family and xmas just coming up , i feel for them all one must be carefull and i'm sure he was , but nothing you can do when the wind comes up so fast and blowing like hell , happen to me years ago on cold lake , was in a 17 ft deep V boat and thats the only reason was saved , them waves came up so fast , big lake 22 km across and i was on the downside of the lake , we had to go with it to the shore and beach the boat , first time i ever put a life jacket on as i thought we was going to be swimming to shore i learn a good leason , mother nature is never to be trusted -
if you ever fished for steelhead or even thought about going into B.C to try it , then you really really owe it to yourself to read this bunch of posts , it will take you some time as 17 pages , but you will see and understand what can happen when you let some guides get to much power , enjoy http://speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?t=30954 and please write a letter , only way to stop it

i can't speak for the rest of the guys on here , but i already sent a email , i have been following this for sometime , and it's on another forum that i visit lots , it's a sad day as them guides are pushing really hard to have it all for themselves , NO NRA at all , even if your a canadian , oh forgot to add '' unless you fish with one of them crooked guides" and as pissed as everyone seems to be , don't look like it will get stoped , the hidden story i'm hearing from phone calls is , on the group of people making the decisions to be passed or push through is some guides , i think 3 , and some locals , 3 i think , someone from the min's office , someone from the town bussiness , can't really remember all the numbers , but the jif of it is the the locals were ex guides , so they kinda got it stacked in there favour i'm still holding onto the thought that they won't fool the people from B.C on what they are trying to do , i also hear another meeting is coming on it

thanks for showing us them great looking fish , i like the colour of them and the outdoors is so nice in your pictures , good healthy looking fish

Don't throw a pile of money at this but DO sponsor and support a much improved reporting feedback. Never just vote for giving governments more cash as the guys that need it cannot appropriately improve their capability with more cash very often. Government has a way of swallowing such $$ into the bureacracy where there is talk and little done nebc , very very well stated , that just about says it all

donor fatigue i'd say that is the big one , it seems almost every day someone looking for money for this and that , i can just bet what them poor fly shops get pounded with everyone wanting them to give something out for free , i bet it's sick with all the request they get and in truth that is not really fair for them to have to step up all the time , this should be on all of us , every guy or gal who fishes in alberta and maybe some of them guides from over in south B.C who fish over in alberta will donate something this year for the good cause , heck i'd buy a float from them on the elk if they donated it for the auction , how about it elk river guys , putting you on the spot LOL i know this is a good cause , and maybe this year everyone can pass out the word and really push it as by god the rivers and lakes need it now more then ever

Votes talk. your correct , only that if you was to add us all up for votes , we still wouldn't count for much in the numbers game , thats why they don't even look at it , the money is spent better in other areas for them to get way more votes the only thing i see that could help everyone ''NOW'' , is everyone who fish's or loves the outdoors , is to help get it police'd heavy , every time you look you should see a CO somewhere or a streamwatch guy , and even at that they will still take fish home or break the rules , increase the fines for poaching would really be good , start hitting the rule breakers pocket books for money and they will soon stop , word travels fast i just hope when this spring time rolls around , we all try or step up to bat in some way , even if it's just a wee little thing , it all will help and it's the only light i see at the end of the tunnel at this time , i'd like to see 5 guys in the south walking the rivers and checking the lakes , but that will never happen , i just heard from a email that alot of times the CO's don't get overtime pay and thats why they answer the calls the next day , budget cutbacks again ,

Angling Guide Licensing Mtg

BRB Why is the public paying for or solicting partners for Streamwatch? simple , the goverment is not going to spend more money and hire more co's , and even more so now with the budget and hard times , it just won't happen , so the big picture is that it's left to us to try to raise funds to hire '' some people to do the watching and protect the fish'' as a example in the last 3 years on the bow i have not been stopped while floating , once i seen one at the parking lot , what we need is to have people , everyone calling in everything and get some fish cops walking the banks , give no breaks whats so ever , and i really think everyone should have a quick read of this post , if after reading this and you still don't see what just can happen to the sport we all love , if you let this so called guides lic or outfitters have the power , and thats just the first step , they have it in B.C now and soon they will call all the shots , and it won't matter that your from canada at all , i'm telling you folks that this is bad for everyone and i'm a guide , it's all about the money and not the fish , here is a really good post and lots of people are now starting to see the truth , http://speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?t=30954 -
well your correct in guessing who slashed the tire i'd say , best always just to keep it low and just call it in , i don't even give breaks anymore , they know , he knew as like what was stated , he left , me i would of just said nothing and followed him and wrote his lic plate number down , then they could of went to see him after , almost always it takes time for the CO's to get there , and this time of year they after hunters also , so it might be a day befor they even get to you you did good and hats off to you for calling it , thanks , what i wouldn't do to see that SOB slashing your tire ,

Angling Guide Licensing Mtg
dutchie replied to DaveJensen's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
yippe yippe good as that was just a waste and a joke , i can already see the min standard test , what's a pickeral rig and caddis fly , another big waste of time for everyone i have been following this and most likely like alot of people just staying back on the side lines and see what will become of all this , opinions , everyone has one , '' right or wrong'' it's just opinions , my 2 cents worth and again this is just my opinion , i will have to agree 100% with dave jensen on this , i also see the bigger picture behind the books cover , this will cost EVERYONE in some way or form and for what good reason ,nothing the goverment ever gets into don't cost money LOL , i think a whole waste of money will be spent for what good , and let alone the waste of time that could be used to better help what we all in truth really care about is the fish and will the fishing remain good , and it don't matter if it's us trout guys or the walleye guys up north or the lake trout guys in cold lake area , we all just care about the fishing i really wish that when greg '' toolman'' and al , had the spring fund raiseing for the streamwatch program it would of got as much interrest as this subject , and to me it was a heck of alot more important then crying about why so many guides and them bad ass guys fishing over here from B.C , or being pissed at what they B.C did , or someone should have first aid , or even worse $20 bucks a day to fish one of the best cutt rivers in the world , come on , streamwatch 2009 , it was shamefull that they only got enough money for 3 guys to watch all the rivers , 1 in the south and 2 up north , the way to keep the fish and keep it good fishing is with solid inforcement ,and tougher fines , plus have enough CO"S walking the rivers , on this subject should guides be lic , i am for it and i'm more against it , my reasons as per anything the goverment will just screw it all up ,whats more is it will hurt the new guy who ever wants to get into it down the road , just look what happen to the outfitting world , same will happen to the fishing guides and locations , they will push to have the right to be the only ones on the lakes guideing or so many only on the rivers , then it will go to you can sell your rights to anyone , happening now in alot of places down in the states , can later on in a few years , a up coming new young guy ever afford to buy out another guides days on the river or the right to fish another lake , how about coming up with the money to buy the rod days in advance for the year , sounds all good till you have to pay money out of your pocket oh don't get me wrong i see the picture behind this , as a guide you would have to be nuts or crazy not to go along with this , the bigger outfits would push the smaller guy out but it will give us guides as a group alot of power with the vote and the ones who do it on the side and not full time will be knocked out , and so for that reason i'm against it , guides or lodges or outfitters will have way to much power i still like the ideal that it's a free world and people can make there own choices on what they want to do and how they want to do it , and make no mistake about it , if the cost goes up then the cost will go up for everyone , even you people who are not guideing , the goverment will want the money for all the extra cost and that won't even make them happy and they will even soak us all for more , nothing ever gets lowered once it's passed i read this and alot of people upset about guides and B.C fee's and so on , seems everyone upset about something the guides are not the ones killing fish , not the ones running quads,up and down the oldman river , if your a guide you want to protect the fishing as best you can so it's better the next time or day , always next year , now i'm not saying that there is not the odd bad apple , but this would not change anything , still will be the odd bad apple out on the waters from reading alot of post on here it seems some think that every tom , dick and harry that floats down the river in a drift boat is a guide , who really cares , some just hate the thought of someone guideing , i guess you can say the same about me as i don't much like lawyers , yet i don't try to tell them what to do and how to do it , i think alot is just plain ol bitterness first aid , wippy do , if you do go on a guided trip , why just ask first if he has first aid , if not say thanks and look up another guide in the book seeing as there seems to be just so many of us guides around , and yes i have first aid , 20 years worth of it , and to this day i still never needed it , insurance , again it's ones own choice , ask the guy and if he don't have it , just say thanks and look up another guide if you really want it so bad , just in case it happens that you should slip or the guide steps on your rod and breaks it insurance is a joke , just another way for them to make more money , a person can just as easy have a waiver sheet , it's only as good as the paper it's printed on , cost about $1000 to $2500 extra a year , this i know as i have had insurance , is it really really needed ?? again that is one's own choice i really don't think it's fair that you tell someone how to run his outfit and what he should have and what he shouldn't have , you go into a fly shop and tell them what they should have , NO , if ya don't like the outfit , go with another again just bitchin $20 for fee's in B.C , heck i wish they would charge $20 for alot of the rivers we have and the lakes in alberta , easy easy fix , pick out say the best rivers in alberta and some of the best lakes and charge anyone not from alberta $20 bucks , the money can be used to put more CO's on the waters to inforce the rules, so add the best rivers and lakes at $20 a day for all none residents , to raise money to help stop poaching which i think is the biggest trouble overall rivers '' bow river'' , ''oldman river'' ''crownest'' even add a few more lakes , ask the walleye guys for the best ones to be added guys guideing from B.C or from anywhere outside alberta , you can be sure that will end if this all happens as the powers will be voteing to shut them out or they will have to pay to guide over in alberta , and the goverment will make them pay if they see $ figures in it for them again this all is a very easy fix , in the new regs for 2010 , on say page 4 , have the powers that decide the rules , , to have the printers add the following and this will cost next to nothing 1, to guide in alberta for money or gain , one must be a full time resident of alberta , and have paid alberta taxes for the last 2 years , 2, all none '''canadian residents'''' must use a guide to fish in alberta , '' now this will really stop the pressure of the fishing over night '' and it sure will help us guides out with more bookings , will these changes happen ,NO , so for that i'm against it , so lets all get togeather and raise a pile of money this year in the 2010 streamwatch and have the rivers and lakes watched and nail them poachers to the wall -
Congrats to you. Those are wonderfull fish. Looks cold. I hope to being going back myself in nov for another shot at them

Ducks On The Pond.....
dutchie replied to SupremeLeader's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
now thats funny don i don't think i seen him down south this year , but i sure seen alot like him only on quads ripping the river up , had 2 guys stop the quads in the middle of the oldman river and open a beer and drink it while watching a couple of us fly fishing , next thing we will see them standing on the back decks of the quads casting away , ruined the next run for us , those guys with the ducks , should be locked up for a few months , if they catch them , they will really be ashamed and everyone who knows these losers will be hurt and lets not call them hunters as they sure as hell don't act like any hunters i ever met , ''THUGS'' -
most likely was the people staying there , thought they had the place all to themselves , maybe they should of stayed on that piece of water then instead of moving down the river , they do have to show you the proof they own the water rights in person , not just tell you , heck i could say i own a piece of the crow also , if not then you just carry on fishing alberta had the same trouble with people who have leased land from the provice , they want it as there own hunting area , some were selling the rights to the outfitters and trying to keep the gates closed
-
DUSTIN good for you , i hate it when people think they own the river and the fish in them , they in truth only own the land and what even worse is they put signs up and it will fool alot of people to turn around , montana was going through the same troubles and the court case is over , walk in the river as much as you want , the fish belong to everyone , if they want there own fish , put a trout pond in on the land they own
-
best deal on simms at this time is the new bass pro shop , myself i would sooner pay a little extra and help out one of the local fly shops , not going to say which one , that will be your choice , i really like the small fly shops , as long as they keep the prices close to what you can get them at other places , mom and pop fly shops are the best , i hate it when i hear or see one closeing down , and your going to love them boots , simms makes the best toughest gear on the market , nothing comes close , you will pay a little or sometimes alot more , but with this case you getting your moneys worth
-
thanks for showing us your trip , i really enjoyed watching that vid and you all must of had a blast

Long Line Indicator Nymphing
dutchie replied to chiasson's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
{I generally try to drift with, or slightly slower than, the speed of the current with my indicator upstream of my rig.} i think that just about says it all , in almost all cases , your indi should be floating down river first befor your bugs , sorta like draging them , i'm for one that never changes my leader during the day , i start off with a 9 ft , first fly , and 12 to 15 inches and second fly , and another 12 inches , a big heavy bug or splitshot i like to leave my indi very close to my flyline , if i do anything during the day if i need change up something , i'll add or remove splitshot , for the speed of the water , way way faster to add or remove a split shot then cutting or adding some leader 7ft , 9 ft , 12 ft, it only changes the angle the line is in the water from your indi to the bottom bug , yet when you change the angle you change the height your bugs are floating down near the bottom , whatever works or tickles your fancy , i had a guy last year who used a 15 leader when nymphing , he was deadly , it is whatever suits your style , i don't like mine long or short , just in the middle , i can control it alot better then a long line , way easy to pick up and cast back up stream i think the whole topic here is what might help this guy from what he posted , i'm pretty sure if he's nymphing like he stated , it's a wonder he's catching fish at all , they suck the nymph in and spit it out the side of the mouth within a couple seconds , you can never be fast enough , as the day gets longer , you'll find yourself not in the mindset 100% of the time , cost ya some fish , or when you start to get a little tucker'd out and again your not 100% on the game , pull the trigger on everything that just don't look correct , and even better , hit em hard , i'v lost more fish by being a candy ass on the hook set then anything , them little hooks can stand it -
yes i'll second that doc , nice stone , i can't wait till we hook up and i sneek into your box of goodies , love your wets also , you like tradeing
