  1. -You're getting as sceptical as me Burnsie, that's the old plan they are required to do a new one every 5 yrs and the new one is due "soon". But after that workshop update I am actually somewhat hopefull -'mericans been using rotenone in flowing waters for species recovery for quite a few yrs. BTW I'm still fishin' that $75 RPL you found me. I got Colin to put a new grip on it.
  2. http://aep.alberta.ca/fish-wildlife/species-at-risk/species-at-risk-publications-web-resources/fish/documents/SAR-WestslopeCutthroatTrout-RecoveryPlan-A-Mar2013.pdf 2.6.2 Present Abundance According to the latest recovery plan the estimated population of remaining 99% pure cutthroat In Alberta consists of 51 separate populations of fish each containing an average of 100 breeding age fish for a total of roughly 5100 99% purestrain cutthroats left. Based on the experts notion that it takes a minimum of 200 breeding fish to become a self sustaining population i would suspect we will see stream closures in the very near future.
  3. Tool in the toolbox tis all. Just like stream closures.
  4. yup Forgot to ask for a population estimate on pure strains left and criteria for defining pure strain.
  5. at the Westslope Cutthroat Trout Workshop that I never thought I hear from a AEP biologist in my lifetime....., the piscicide rotenone and how it is used
  6. They gawdamned well better focus on habitat restoration. I actually was in favour of stream closures, not so much to protect species from C&R angling but to keep the sense of outrage in the forefront. Now I suspect the average headwaters angler will slide into complacency and can go back to worrying about keepin' up to the friggin' Jones's
  7. Wasn't there much but Jim, Neil and staff were highly encouraging when I was getting back into fishin' and tyin' many moons ago . And bought my last pair of guide boots and g3 waders from Mike. Sad but time and change marches on and waits for exactly no one.
  8. I'm pretty damn sporty for an old guy, not very with it but sporty as hell
  9. OK what the ..................??? The regular price in the above link is only $60 higher than the price for men's SST jackets in the link below. http://www.patagonia.ca/product/mens-sst-fishing-jacket/81864.html?dwvar_81864_color=FGE&cgid=sport-fly-fishing-mens-jackets-vests#tile-9=&start=1&sz=24 Still a decent price but..............................................
  10. I have had the studded vibram soled Guide boots for the last 4-5 yrs. I may(??) get another yrs out of them but when I do replace then I will buy vibram again and stud them. I also have bought a cheaper pair of wading boots without studs for use with kich fins with my frameless pontoon while stillwater fishing. Same idea could work for fishing' out of a boat unless you're all stuck on wearing the same logo from head to toe. YMMV
  11. Not totally but it would be nice to have handwarmer pockets and water resistant cuffs. I want it mostly for floating lakes in a pontoon.
  12. Is there such an animal as a decent breathable friggin' wading/guide jacket for under 300 bucks?? I'll be damned if I gonna pay more for one than I would for a decent fly reel
  13. I hereby officially withdraw the above statement
  14. U-fa's head office micromanaged WS into the toilet, after Dec 28th they can then concentrate their efforts and do the same for the farm stores
  15. Waterton Park from a distance of about 20km as of 8am this morning. A north easterly wind was slowly pushing in this morning when I got there. The bottom picture is Waterton Colony. I was supposed to be finishing a 2 day job there today but the colony was mostly evacuated at 1 am the morning. My equipment is still sitting there in the larger building on the left.
  16. Then we'll have the dipshits who'll protest the prescribed burns
  17. Download both the AB and BC Wildfire app onto your smartphone. Comes in handy. I find it amazing that so far this yr we've had 4 fires in the Rocky area and essentially none in the hyper critical SW corner.
  18. Just an aside FYI; Never forget the our westslope cutthroat evolved since the last ice event to periods of drought that lasted many decades. The real problem nowadays is the fragmented populations.
  19. Yeah I would really appreciate that, Thanks. I've ordered a clear Solitude replacement net through the OFF shop over on Fairmount Dr.. Looks to be fairly deep as weel.
  20. I apreciate the offer Salinger. I'll keep it in mind. I'm waiting to hear back from Streamside about a custom C&R bag. Thanks
  21. No Thanks for the suggestion.
  22. Will do Peter but it's a different smaller net, A little teardrop that fits better tucked behind my canvas man purse. Streamside in Lethbridge carries replacement bags. You can order online.
  23. Fishpond's smaller net bags aren't deep enough.
  24. I'm resurrecting an old Streamside landing net. Online search is drivin' me bugshit. Where the heck can I find a replacement net (fine mesh or clear ghost)that is actually deep enough for a small net? 36" or 91 1/2 cm inside diameter. I want at least 16" deep. Most of the bags I can find online are only 12".
  25. Galaxy S 7 or 8, I own enough redundant crap without having to keep track of a waterproof camera AND a waterproof phone. Just keep it on a lanyard so you don't have to watch it fluttering to the bottom of 15' of crystal clear water
