  1. although i support the 1% on 'art' or making stuff look pertty - see the fish embossed on the sides of glenmore tr. as an good example - that one's gonna be a shining example of a process gone horribly wrong. it's a giant Calgary-ego-sized embarrassment.
  2. my perspective is somewhat skewed, but i believe that most of the suggestions tabled are "easy" 'high visibility' attempted fixes that will probably have limited value. perhaps solves some issues, short term, but in reality create other ones. also consider that the bow system is already overallocated, and some of the major rights holders prodded the gov't to study the feasibility of changing the storage options on the bow system, and none of the initial findings were 'easy'. all involved major undertakings that would involve years of stakeholder input, review, due process, etc. and lots and lots of funds. and they could not agree and wrap that up...although that's still on the books. the issues, and what's being attempted to mitigate against is quite varied and complex, and so probably should be the solution. requires some big picture/long term thinking, and that's been fundamentally lacking for quite some time. my0.02.
  3. many thanks sir. that's good enough for her. she wants to get them shadowboxed and needed something.
  4. Gord sold me my first decent stick years ago. I must admit at the time I was very intimidated by the thought of droppin big coin on a flyrod. he said it would make me a much better caster, and he was absolutely right. condolences to family and friends.
  5. hey - friend of mine recently found these, tied by her deceased father over 30 years ago. can someone correctly identify these as specific patterns...are they a variation of something, or just a custom tie. I would guess, but would be a long-shot. could google too, but ...lazy. mucho tnx.
  6. she floats and rows nice. too bad it doesn't improve the fishin'. ha ha. tnx for the float.
  7. rich. think i fished with this guide this year...
  8. yes. again, sincere thanks for your consideration...you did all you could do, communication is key...it's busy and it happens, no worries at all. we did have a pretty good day, hope you did as well.
  9. x3. nothing will change if nothing's ever said. had a number of similar experiences myself. sometimes, tough call. get the greenies who park unknowingly in a hot spot for lunch. and then there's ones who will do that on purpose. see lots of cut-offs, low-holing, lane hogging bad manners, poor etiquette, rude, agressive & pushy behaviour. from guides, from locals, from tourists. sucks when it's a guide...they are supposed to be the pro's, right? we were fishing a skinny side channel last week, and a drift boat came around the corner... with no where to go but down. kudos to the oarsman, he did what he could to do a clean & quiet drift through, apologized [but really no one had any choice in what was going to happen], and the angler didn't cast into the pool until they were well downstream. much appreciated...well done sir, whoever you are. that's the way it's supposed to go. a little courtesy, goodwill and common decency goes a long way. have a nice day.
  10. agreed. who drives that? who 'forms' that vision, or gathers the input from stakeholders, and puts it out there [as law, regulations, changes, whatever]? what does the average schmo need to do?
  11. via IO9 interesting geek science article on how fish navigate using the earth's magnetic field
  12. 'oh, and i wonder, what it is about dogs and thunder, what they hear, comin' over the fields. back hall shelter, warm nights in summer, shakin' the ground that you lie under, well, i know you're not here, but at least you don't feel it anymore' - sarah harmer
  13. the intake for a facility like this one can create a great deal of suction, and the force of that suction is not always visible at the surface.
  14. hey kids - this photo got sent to me showing someone (who is hopefully not recognizable, because that's not the point here) fishing on a water intake structure at a dam. most of these types of facilities are controlled remotely, water levels and flow conditions (intake and outflow) can fluctuate very very quickly and without warning. bad things can happen fast. also kindly suggest to refresh your knowledge (if neccesary) of federal and provincial regulations regarding fishing around dams and water intake/outflow structures. let's be safe out there. cheers
  15. who is the governing body for boaters on rivers and lakes, performing enforcement, handing out fines for any infractions, etc? do they ever frequent the bow river system? if so, how often? does that agency have the equipment, manpower, resources, etc to do any patrolling or enforcement? do you honestly think some of the true asshats mentioned will come to the table for discussion? do you think they will practice and follw courtesy rules? do you think they give a flying frak what pretty words you write here? do you think that maybe some of them actually enjoy being an ***hat? ps - there are total ***hat w&w guys who can ruin your day just as fast as a jet boat. and there are some complete ***hat drift boaters too. wanna see some change? start documenting, lobbying, and get some regualr patrols & enforcement. see what the cfd did in the last few years with rafters in the city - still an issue but way way way more people getting the message they are sending...due to publicity, enforcement, patrols.
  16. another teaser back in town sunday will post more w/ a report today was my day...awesome!!!
  17. just a teaser... last day tomorrow...
  18. sorry man...that's tough. agreed it sucks. he stopped eating, they found a huge stomach tumour, prognosis poor. better to let them go as opposed to prolonging suffereing. doesn't make it easier though.
  19. for those that knew and loved him, i had to see skoah off on the weekend. very sad to have lost him, especially so soon, thought we'd have a few more good years together. he was always a pleasure to have around. godspeed buddy.
