  1. Al, I ran my solar when I was at Racehorse last summer. 2 deep cycle batteries, no problems. If I remember I was up to 100% charge by noon or so. Like Sean84, I've run my trailer off solar exclusively, I don't think it has ever been plugged in. Get the best solar you can afford would be my only caution.
  2. Making decisions based on family considerations? Look, our little boy is all grown up now!
  3. To learn that the roads and bridges have been repaired to my little slice of heaven, return and see what has changed and that the cutts are still there.
  4. They make absolutely the best open face bait casting reels on the market. I have a couple of Shimano reels that are over 15 years old that cast like they are brand new. Drag is even better than the casting, if that is possible. Change the bearings once every few years and done. Now, $1000 will only buy a couple of them, but they are absolutely the best. I would be like a kid in a candy store with a $1000 shimano certificate. Would not waste a penny on a rod (or a spinning reel for that matter, though I know they are good too) or apparel. I don't imagine they will let you buy loomis, though if they did, that's the only thing that would get my attention other than the reels.
  5. Fighting belt for a fly rod? Man up boys! I could be persuaded to try that. My brother wants me to go down to Costa Rica to chase tuna and marlin next month. Might have to consider it
  6. I love BC in the late summer. Fishing for cutts is one of my favorite things. Nothing like a big gorgeous fish taking a dry fly from a crystal clear stream. But that said, having a 22" rainbow turn your reel into a knuckle buster as he cartwheels through the air is pretty tough to beat as well. For scenery and aesthetics, the Elk. For the chance at a jaw dropping run, the Bow. I'm firmly in the both camp.
  7. Let me help you with that Trailhead: (these are TH's pics from photobucket above).
  8. I have a Zenith 4wt with a Hardy DD reel. Love it.
  9. Ah, the internet. Assuming the worst of people since 1995.

  11. Wait, you mean waders when full are neutrally buoyant? And if you don't panic, keep you feet downstream, use your arms to guide, and don't try to stand until you are near or on shore you should be fine? Wow, almost seems like someone might have said something similar back on page 1.
  12. Iphone to HTC One. I chose the HTC over the Galaxy as the Galaxy is a bit more geared toward social media applications than the HTC. And the HTC is a better build, a bit more robust. That said, the Galaxy sounds like a great phone as well. It does not feel bulky to it at all, in fact I prefer it to the Iphone for size (and function for that matter). My only issue is the screen seems to have a bit more glare in direct sunlight than the IPhone did, but that is in no way outweighed by the things I like (seems to handle apps better, FAST, better reception). FYI, HTC is made by HTC. Here is a quote from a review site: "High Tech Computer Corporation, or HTC, is a major player in the wireless marketplace. Originally HTC made phones for other manufacturers, but more recently has made a big splash by putting their own name on an array of exciting, cutting edge devices"
  13. He did Wide World of Sports, announced every sport under the sun. But I mostly remember him for "The American Sportsman." I found this on a google search, a bit of a tribute from BassPro (or all places). His talk around the 6 minute mark really reminds me of how my dad would explain fishing, if you ever pinned him down (and it's my dad's birthday today, so I'm so glad I looked this up-a bunch of great memories swirling around my head now). Anyway, here is the clip: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&template=video.cfm&cat=Fishing&subCatID=26&connectionSpeed=hd&videoID=736&startRow=0&videoType=prodcutdemo&option=2&cmid=OLPHVIDEO_736_HD
  14. Thanks for that Taco. Makes me remember how much I loved watching/listening to Gowdy.
  15. Nice fish Mr. Steve.
  16. About a month ago I lost my GPS coming down from a hike to Jumbo Glacier. I did look for it on the trail for awhile, but the area I might have lost it in was just too big, so see ya later, GPS. Nice knowing you. I sent a note to a hiking club for the East Kootenays and they sent out an email to their members, but no luck there either. I downloaded a nice hiking app onto my phone, and it works ok. But battery life is a big issue, and you have to pay attention to how big the map is you download in advance. So it worked OK, but I was resigned to the fact I would need to eventually by a new GPS. Last night I got a phone call from Kimberly, BC. Seems that a couple of hikers (father and daughter) found my GPS a couple of weeks ago, and meant to call me but forgot until last night. GPS going in the mail today! Just reminds me that people are for the most part much better than we give them credit for. It would have been easy for them to keep the GPS (it's a really nice one!). Instead, they took the time to contact me, package it up and send it expecting nothing in return. Can't wait to get it back. Unfortunately, it won't work at Uber's house, what with the EMP and all.
  17. I've called RAP a few times. I can't think of an instance when the callback was more than 15 minutes later. One instance the CO was there <15 minutes after the call and poachers were busted.
  18. Sounds like someone set off a directed EMP at your house. Have any enemies in the government?
  19. Hey, DRock is Hank Patterson! The best cutbrowbow fisherman around!
  20. Corb? Is that you?
  21. Holy crap CJ. Next time I see you at the farm beer is on me!
  22. Launches are much busier places where I'm from than they are here, the one I went to the most was a big triple launch. If you got there late, there might be 20 vehicles in front of you. Seen many arguments, been involved in one myself. No fist fights or guns so far though. But with soft lovable guys such as us, it's no wonder. Sorry for the BS, I'll try to do better. As an aside, if my count is correct, I've fished with 12 people who've posted on this thread. I don't think the terms they would use to describe me would be "soft and lovable." Well, maybe bobloblaw would, but he's too busy looking at flowers to really notice.
  23. Well aren't you just sunshine and roses today. At least you are thinking right through winter and into next spring!
  24. You'd get crucified for hogging the run with the hover drift boat, and also hated for having enough money for being able to afford a hover boat. And you would be assumed to be from Edmonton, unless you were using your hoverboat on the Crow, or worse yet BC, in which case you would be assumed to be from Calgary, or even worse, Wyoming. Then there would be fist fights, because everyone knows that's the only way to settle fishing disputes.
  25. Moneychanger? Come on man.
