  1. Hey Jared, I'm $15.00 ahead, and I don't even have to supply a jet boat!
  2. Oh, and if you want to bid, just reply to this thread.
  3. Ok, lets try to run a couple of auctions here. I have a couple of items to start. Auction will run until Tuesday, June 3 at 8 PM (so when the clock strikes 8:00:00 PM the auction is over, no bid will be accepted after 7:59:59). Winner will need to donate directly to my personal page on the MS Bike Ride site here: http://mssoc.convio.net/site/TR/BikeTour/AlbertaandNorthwestTerritoriesDivision?px=1292843&pg=personal&fr_id=3024&s_locale=en_CA Item 1: A day on the Bow with Troutlover. Troutlover is offering a full day fishing trip on the Bow in his shiny new jet boat. I have fished with Troutlover on numerous occasions, and you will be hard pressed to find someone who fishes the Bow River better than he does. That and he is truly excited on every fish he, or you, catches. However, when you are landing a big fish, don't let him near a net. Troutlover will also provide the lunch and the drinks. Item 2: A hike in lake with yours truly. We will go on a day that is mutually agreeable. Winner needs to be fairly fit, the walk in is 2 to 3 hours with some elevation gain. Most of it is pretty tame, but there is a 1/2 hour or so that will get your attention. No ropes or anything needed, just a bit strenuous. But I'm 54 yrs old, so if I can do it. The winner will be rewarded with outstanding views (it's in K-country) and some of the best fishing for mountain cutts that you can imagine. Only caveat is winner needs to be able to keep locations to himself! I will also provide the lunch, but winner(s) need to pack it themselves. Good luck!
  4. Damn. If I'da known that I would have worn the shirt more often.
  5. Hey Trouscape, if fish are truly like women and can spell desperation, I can tell you what used to work for me. I had a pink (way before pink was a common shirt color) shirt that I called the slump buster. Only brought it out when truly necessary. Gave me confidence and somehow my deal closing ration went up. So you need a go to fly that you believe in, use it to catch your fish, and put it away until you need it again. Another method would be to throw money around, but I'm not sure how that would work on fish....... Edit: or go out during high water and float big ass stoneflies 3 ft under an indi close to the bank.
  6. Guys, I am getting a donation or two for my MS charity bike ride coming up. Check in the fundraiser area in the next day or so and I should have something going. Trying to decide if I want to do it raffle style or auction style. The first one coming up is pretty nice, if you like floating the Bow......
  7. Al, I ran my solar when I was at Racehorse last summer. 2 deep cycle batteries, no problems. If I remember I was up to 100% charge by noon or so. Like Sean84, I've run my trailer off solar exclusively, I don't think it has ever been plugged in. Get the best solar you can afford would be my only caution.
  8. Making decisions based on family considerations? Look, our little boy is all grown up now!
  9. Thanks Peter (uberfly)!!
  10. Thanks Ben (Ickyflyworks)! I truly appreciate it, as always.
  11. To learn that the roads and bridges have been repaired to my little slice of heaven, return and see what has changed and that the cutts are still there.
  12. Hello Everyone, I am doing another fund raiser bike ride this year, this time the MS Bike Tour from Airdrie to Olds and back over two days, Jun 14 and 15. I chose this ride because my little sister has MS and want to do what I can to raise funds to fight this horrible disease. FFC has donated a LOT of money to various causes I've been involved in thru the years, and I can't express how much I have appreciated it. I hope that generosity extends to this year. I may be doing some type of raffle/auctions this year so stay tuned. In the meantime, here is the website that explains what the fundraiser is all about and a link to my donation page. http://mssoc.convio.net/site/TR/BikeTour/AlbertaandNorthwestTerritoriesDivision?px=1292843&pg=personal&fr_id=3024&s_locale=en_CA
  13. I used to have a bunch of TFO stuff, now it seems I have a bunch of Hardy stuff. When I fished the TFO I didn't know I was supposed to think they were cheap rods, they seemed fine to me and I caught a lot of fish and had a ton of fun. Now I have the Hardy, they certainly feel and cast better, and I catch (sometimes) a lot of fish and have a lot of fun. Maybe because I don't really care all that much about the "art" of casting I tend not to care too much about the rod. Casting is a means to an end. If I'm catching fish with the rod, I'm pretty happy. To continue the golf analogy, for the standard shot the weapon of choice doesn't matter so much. High end, low end, if you hit it in the middle, it'll all be good. Same with a generic trout rising in a generic run without a lot of *hit in the way (anyone notice what I did there?) how "good" the rod is probably doesn't matter much. But for those shots where I need to hit a low screaming hook around a tree (or cast to a sneaky trout across a creek in a swirling pool) the quality of the club can become much more important. Since I don't have the skill to make that cast (but I can hit a low screaming hook, sometimes even on demand) then whether or not I have a high end rod likely does not matter. I'll spend weeks researching what golf clubs to buy. For rods, it's more like "hey that feels pretty good..."
  14. They make absolutely the best open face bait casting reels on the market. I have a couple of Shimano reels that are over 15 years old that cast like they are brand new. Drag is even better than the casting, if that is possible. Change the bearings once every few years and done. Now, $1000 will only buy a couple of them, but they are absolutely the best. I would be like a kid in a candy store with a $1000 shimano certificate. Would not waste a penny on a rod (or a spinning reel for that matter, though I know they are good too) or apparel. I don't imagine they will let you buy loomis, though if they did, that's the only thing that would get my attention other than the reels.
  15. Fighting belt for a fly rod? Man up boys! I could be persuaded to try that. My brother wants me to go down to Costa Rica to chase tuna and marlin next month. Might have to consider it
  16. I love BC in the late summer. Fishing for cutts is one of my favorite things. Nothing like a big gorgeous fish taking a dry fly from a crystal clear stream. But that said, having a 22" rainbow turn your reel into a knuckle buster as he cartwheels through the air is pretty tough to beat as well. For scenery and aesthetics, the Elk. For the chance at a jaw dropping run, the Bow. I'm firmly in the both camp.
  17. Let me help you with that Trailhead: (these are TH's pics from photobucket above).
  18. I have a Zenith 4wt with a Hardy DD reel. Love it.
  19. Ah, the internet. Assuming the worst of people since 1995.

  21. Wait, you mean waders when full are neutrally buoyant? And if you don't panic, keep you feet downstream, use your arms to guide, and don't try to stand until you are near or on shore you should be fine? Wow, almost seems like someone might have said something similar back on page 1.
  22. Iphone to HTC One. I chose the HTC over the Galaxy as the Galaxy is a bit more geared toward social media applications than the HTC. And the HTC is a better build, a bit more robust. That said, the Galaxy sounds like a great phone as well. It does not feel bulky to it at all, in fact I prefer it to the Iphone for size (and function for that matter). My only issue is the screen seems to have a bit more glare in direct sunlight than the IPhone did, but that is in no way outweighed by the things I like (seems to handle apps better, FAST, better reception). FYI, HTC is made by HTC. Here is a quote from a review site: "High Tech Computer Corporation, or HTC, is a major player in the wireless marketplace. Originally HTC made phones for other manufacturers, but more recently has made a big splash by putting their own name on an array of exciting, cutting edge devices"
  23. He did Wide World of Sports, announced every sport under the sun. But I mostly remember him for "The American Sportsman." I found this on a google search, a bit of a tribute from BassPro (or all places). His talk around the 6 minute mark really reminds me of how my dad would explain fishing, if you ever pinned him down (and it's my dad's birthday today, so I'm so glad I looked this up-a bunch of great memories swirling around my head now). Anyway, here is the clip: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&template=video.cfm&cat=Fishing&subCatID=26&connectionSpeed=hd&videoID=736&startRow=0&videoType=prodcutdemo&option=2&cmid=OLPHVIDEO_736_HD
  24. Thanks for that Taco. Makes me remember how much I loved watching/listening to Gowdy.
