  1. Ok folks, here are the first items for the 2016 MS Auction! These will close next Monday at 9 PM. So any bid after 8:59:59 is too late. Item 1: A Jerky Smorgasbord from Oberto donated by Sage. Included is a very nice Ogio backpack, features pictured below. It is a perfect laptop type backpack. It is packed with 5 Packs of Jerky:1 Pork 1 BBQ Pork, 1 Hawaiian Pork, 1 Beef, 1 Teriyaki Beef, and 1 Bacon (!!!!). Also included is an umbrella and sunglasses all pictured below. $150 value. Item 2: A Guided Bow River Float trip donated by Hanson's Outfitters. This is a full day float and lunch will be provided. Trip date on a mutually acceptable date, and you will meet at the "river house" which is right on the Bow on the end of the road past Policeman's flats. This is good for one or two anglers. Item 3: Fishing trip into Maligne Lake in Jasper hosted by Creekside (I've always wanted to do this trip!) Maligne lake - rainbows and brookies. Most of the brookies will be in the 16-18" range. Rainbows 14" - 22" range. Excellent sight fishing early in the season. Trip will be available for only the month of June and the first week of July after that I'll be out of the Province. Any day of the week but preferably mid week (get real busy on the weekends). Pick up angler at around 6:00 am. Drive up to Maligne (lots of wildlife) early in the morning. . Angler requires own basic gear I'll supply all flies if needed. If they own mini spey or switch rods in the 4-6 line weights they should bring them along, easier to fish then a standard single handed rod. Angler will need to provide lunch and beverages. Usually back in town around 4:00pm. Item 4: Bow River trip hosted by myself. We can do it as a walk and wade, or float in pontoon boats. I can supply transportation and boats. If the winner chooses the pontoon option we can either self shuttle or split shuttle fees. I will supply lunch. Time and date to be mutually agreed upon, but I might suggest in early July post runoff. Just sayin... What I lack in fishing knowledge I generally more than make up for in unintentional comedy and story telling, whether the winner wants it or not. All kidding aside, if the winner is somewhat new to fishing I do have some knowledge I've stolen from many of the much more accomplished anglers on this board that I can try to pass on.
  2. Ben is a fantastic guy. And thanks for reminding me I need to order!
  3. Thanks Ray! I'll likely start next week sometime
  4. Thanks guys. I'll probably put something together this week.
  5. Hello everyone, I'm thinking of doing another auction for 2016 for my MS Ride. With all that has happened in Calgary this year, including to myself, I thought I would gauge interest. If interested, let me know via comments or pm. If you wish to donate something, also let me know. Thanks!
  6. Since I don't have a job I seem to have a lot of time on my hands. I'm going to be riding in the MS ride in a couple of months, and it got me thinking of my 2013 ride, and vertigo, and some other obstacles. Here it is, hope you enjoy: https://juststumblingthroughlife.com/2016/04/16/im-falling-and-cant-seem-to-stop-getting-up/
  7. I have a pair that I only use for fishing 3x mags. Only thing I can find that I can still tie on a #20. I even have to have glasses on to take the fly out of a fish's mouth. Yeah, reading glasses glasses sick.
  8. Actually, I've been bowling since I was like 10. Bowling competitively (yeah, it's a thing) off and on since my late teens. When I was young, there was a major gambling component. I watched my dad walk out with close to $1000 on a regular league night (I was never good enough to win that much because I couldn't bet that much). The community here is smaller than it was in the states, but there is some pretty serious talent in Calgary and Edmonton and a bunch in their 20s. Less gambling though, but a lot of tournaments. Several thousand dollars to winners of some of these.
  9. I need to remember to check these more often. Thanks for the comments everyone. Enjoying it so far, though a bit boring! Catching some big fish which is always good.
  10. Just saw this. Very well written Jordan.
  11. Thanks guys. And eloquent isn't usually a word used to describe anything I do!
  12. It has some fishing content! https://juststumblingthroughlife.com/2016/04/09/603/'
  13. I actually thought about the Seychelles on this next trip. Maybe one day. Longggggg trip and very expensive, at least what I found. But holy crap does it look fun.
  14. I would fish there if I wasn't afraid of dogs and Bcube tsk, tsk, tsking me.
  15. I really haven't fished the Bow much since the flood as I've been playing a lot of golf and my wife won't let me have 2 hobbies at the same time, until maybe now. Seems I am the latest casualty of the oil patch, and am "retiring" at the end of this week. My wife is horrified that I will be home too much and is already threatening reprisals if I hang around the house too much. So, fish, beware. I'm a little rusty, but I'm sure I can figure it all out again. And I see a lot of trips with my trailer come this summer! Every cloud has a silver lining.
  16. Well, not exactly fishing related, but I seem to be the latest victim of the oil patch. After 24 years in the industry I've been asked to retire. If all goes well this will be short lived. In the meantime, anyone need a Marshall at a golf course? http://juststumblingthroughlife.com/2016/03/18/bring-on-whats-next/
  17. Posted a story to my blog for the first time in a couple of months. Not specifically fishing related, or really at all, but there is references to shrimping if that counts!
  18. You can certainly get prescription MJs. Not as sure on the Smith's.
  19. I've had prescription MJs and they were great. Have since had eye surgery, so lost the need. I still wear MJ non prescription. But have recently got a pair of Smith ChromaPop for xmas. I'll never knock the MJs, but I think the Smith might actually be a bit better in clarity. Either would be a great choice.
  20. My favorite Texas recipe for duck was grilled mesquite plank duck First make a rub with paprika, cumin, a bit of red pepper, and kosher salt Use rub liberally inside and out of duck Heat grill to 400 Place duck on wetted cedar plank (should wet board a few hours in advance) breast side up Cook until fattest part of leg is 175 (about 30-45 minutes) Remove from grill, throw duck away, eat plank. Tungsten's recipe is great as well. Or you can go to France and eat their domestic duck.
