  1. Dear Mr. Loblaw, This is a fly fishing website. We don't cotton to those spin tactics around here. It is nothing short of fish torture. The hooks are too big and the practitioners are smelly and uncouth. Next thing you know you'll be catching sturgeon with bait and hanging out on disreputable websites. Oh, too late you say? Peddle your wares somewhere else. BTW, if you want to come back over from the dark side of the force, you know where to find me mid September. I'll be inspecting your gear on arrival however. I have been on a fishing trip with that troutlover fella and he broke out a jig on a cutty hole. A cutty hole for goodness sakes. I won't tolerate any of that sort of behavior good (pffffttt) sir, be warned.
  2. Latest blog entry, from a back country trip 3 years ago..... http://juststumblingthroughlife.com/
  3. The following areas were closed on Friday to all fishing until further notice: Threepoint Creek and tributaries; Jumpingpound Creek from headwaters to the Bow River; Little Red Deer River and tributaries from headwaters downstream to Red Deer River, including Dogpound Creek and tributaries; Waterton River and all tributaries upstream of Waterton Reservoir, including Drywood Creek; Waterton River downstream of Waterton Reservoir, river only; Castle River and tributaries downstream of SH 507 to Highway 3, including Screwdriver Creek, Beaver Mines Creek and Mill Creek; Pincher Creek and tributaries; Oldman River from Highway 22 downstream to Secondary Road 510, river only; and Willow Creek, main stem and tributaries from Chain Lakes downstream to Pine Coulee Reservoir Diversion Head pond.
  4. Gotta tell ya Taco, very little embellishment going on in this story. Maybe some strong emphasizing, but the actual events are pretty much as is.
  5. Must go on haitus now. And try to catch pike in some cold northern lake.......
  6. Did a final post before the long weekend. Practical joke my dad pulled 40some years ago. http://juststumblingthroughlife.com/
  7. Hah, forgot about that! I also didn't put in how much you loved listening to classic rock and football games. Didn't want to traumatize you.
  8. Well, the sandwiches were not sticky. Thank the lord, cuz you wanted to swallow fast!
  9. I remembered this story. Many of you may have already heard it, but it bears re-telling.... http://juststumblingthroughlife.com/2015/07/29/shut-up-and-eat-your-sandwich/
  10. Try now. See I said they let anyone do this. No skill required.
  11. Oh, people almost die in the story. Or at least get hurt some. Well, maybe not actually hurt-but scared.
  12. After some encouragement, I've decided to start a blog, here: http://juststumblingthroughlife.com/2015/07/28/hello-world/. Basically just a place for me to post stuff I find funny, tell fishing stories, parent and parenting stories, whatever. First one is of a hiking trip my wife and I took. Hope you enjoy it. All 4 or 5 of you that read it anyway!
  13. I can't even imagine what that would be like. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  14. I have a condo in Panorama that just sold. The new owners take possession on Aug 24. I have two days left in the calendar unbooked, July 30 and 31 (next Thursday and Friday). So I'd like to offer it up. Included in the price below could be meeting me and my mapbook in Calgary before the trip. The condo typically books for $225 per night over holiday weekends, but these two days sorta got stranded around some other bookings. So 2 nights, complete with fishing recommendations for $350. First offer gets it--but I'll likely get you to just hold the proceeds until next years MS site gets set up and have the winner donate (and get a tax receipt). Either respond here or pm me. thanks!
  15. Glad to hear everyone is ok and that the boat is going to survive. Great job to everyone who helped out!
  16. This solid week of low temps and rain have to help. Sounds like no fishing for a week or so.....
  17. Anyone ever did a retread on Simms boots? I have a pair of Riversheds that are like 3 years old now and the vibram soles have seen better days. I'd like to retread them as the boots seem to have a lot of life left in them. Any info apprectiated.
  18. Actually, we were driving from the Bull River FSR towards Whiteswan. So no need to go back. Wish we could have, the side we went to was all blown out from the rain that night.
  19. My son and I just returned from a 3 day fishing swing through Southern Alberta and BC. 3 rivers, 800 KM of driving in total. The fishing was just so-so--we stunk up the joint in southern alberta (lots of opportunities, very little deal closing), hit a new river to us in BC only to find it total chocolate milk. Got past the tribs that were blown out a bit from rain and it cleared up nicely. Fishing was good on surface until about 1:30 and someone threw the switch. No bugs, no rises, no nothing after that. Managed a few more small fish, but was a little disappointing. Started to make the drive to another river system on some old FSRs when it started to rain, sometimes pretty hard. We actually started to talk about abandoning so we wouldn't have to camp in the rain. But the rain pretty much stopped after an hour or so, 15 minutes of that pretty hard. As we were going thru a section with a pretty steep hill to our left (drivers side), my son suddenly speeds up. I didn't pay much attention to it, but did see something weird out of the corner of my eye. It looked like the hill was sloughing toward us. I had a "what the hell??" moment, then turned around just as a small river of mud, trees, boulders and water hit the road just behind us and spewed about 10 feet or so straight up in the air. We stopped about 100 yds down the road to look, watched for about 10 seconds and I thought "I'm one of those people watching the river flood just before it sweeps me away" and we got in the car and high tailed it out of there. The pictures below are from the next day. If we had been two seconds later, we would have literally had 0 chance. Took my heart a few minutes to stop beating. I've had some scary situations in my life, a couple of which seemed life threatening at the time. But this was literally the closest I've ever been to an obituary. From road looking up, note the new boulders Looking up again [/url] From the road, looking back the way we came. The debris field is about 6 feet or so high here. Looking down. You can see the culverts where a little run off stream goes under the road. Looking down again. This is about as wide as a 2 lane road.
  20. I want that damn senior discount card. Nothing like a Whataburger! And bobloblaw, you would have howled at me trying to walk back and forth across the Bull this weekend. One of my favorite creeks BBT calls the "slip and f@!#. This is exactly the same thing. Step, slip, fall, swear is the wading technique.
  21. Got a call from my wife the other day: "Did you lose your wallet?" I quickly tapped my back pocket and said "nope". She says "I got a weird call from the community association" I interrupted her "and they said someone called and found my wallet on a river in BC, right?" "Yes, when did you lose it?" "Last september" I reply. I was fishing with bigbowtrout and 3 family members from Texas on some pretty well known water in BC. We had a perfect day, other than the fact it was just after all the snow last September. When I get to the car, I can't find my wallet. We looked all over the creek for like an hour before giving up. Credit cards, licenses, etc, all gone. Plus a bit of cash. Anyway, 9 months later, a guy in BC finds my totally beat up, no money wallet. he finds my Lake Chaparral lake card, and calls the community association, who calls me and I call him. He asks if I want him to mail it to me, and I say nah, just toss it. "By the way, how is the fishing." "Gooood" he says. Might hit it up Friday!
  22. It gets easier actually. Just got to learn where not to hit it, how mountains affect break, etc. Don't be long, or left near greens. Played lots in that area, only play Grey Wolf if given the option.
