  1. maybe it's just me but.... if you want a few problems... use 1 fly if you want a few more and have a bit more time on your hands (i.e. more than a couple hours)... use 2 flies if you have all day... use 3 fliies sorry but i usually only have an hour or 2 to fish at a time. my wife makes fun of me for spending more time tying flies than actually fishing.
  2. Hey i'm headin to ghost river and/or res tomorrow. Never been there. Any suggestions would very much be appreciated (what to use, maybe where to go, etc). Any one know how it's been fishin there lately? Am i wasting my time? thank you!
  3. i'd let er go. i'd tell everyone and no one would believe me and i wouldn't get a record but i'd let er swim off. but i guess i'll never have to worry about anything like that happening where i spend my time fishin
  4. thanks Jay. some of my fondest memories are fishing with my grampa too. thanks for reminding me. RIP
  5. i found a few stubby beer bottles in the rocks at boom lake a few years back. they must have been there for years.
  6. what bar were you at? i'll make sure not to go there
  7. I was wondering the same thing...
  8. flyfishing is the only good thing about getting older catching fish on flies you tied yourself doubles the reward there's no reason ever to be discouraged while you're out flyfishing helps you appreciate everything else in life that you should appreciate scotch is good. (relearned every year up till now and from now on) cider is good some of the best fishing exists where other people say it sucks there's a lot more to learn
  9. why no 3wt? Just not practical for this type of high performance rod? (i.e. not as many long distance / high wind casting situations?) i want to get a really good 3wt and am looking at the 386 zxl but wondered why there wasn't a 3wt tcr (or tcx)
  10. thanks for the post. Looks like a beautiful day. wish i was there!
  11. looks familiar just can't put my finger on it...
  12. never hooked myself but smacked the hell out of my ear lobe with a big sjw a few days ago. kinda wished that it would be hanging there like an earring when i felt it but no such luck. hurt like a beotch
  13. I have a few questions that i've never been 100% sure of. If i hook a fish and it breaks my line how long does it take for the hook to disintegrate in the fish's mouth (freshwater vs. salt)? Is the fish's health at risk now that it has a hook stuck in it's mouth? Are it's chances of survival reduced? If I hook a fish deeper (in the throat) and risk damaging the fish to get the hook out, is it better to cut the line as close to the hook as possible? (this has rarely / never happened but just in case it does) thanks
  14. signed also. made it a plan to head to NZ one day after drooling over glenbows trip highlights last season.
  15. very cool. I'm glad to know there might be a good way to practice off the water where i won't scare all the fish. thanks maxwell, maybe i'll get myself when of htem crazy weird rods one day.
  16. that's a dog? looks like a squirrel.
  17. i've been holding off all day. I definitely feel like i get more out of this board than i put in. and it will probably be that way for a while until I can honestly feel like a seasoned & wise fisherman (might take a while, maybe when i'm 80 and look the the old man and the sea). i have learned a lot here and it's reassuring to know that I'll still have the benefit from continuing to learn from board Ninjas, experts and the like. Primarily, i love flyfishing. and when i can't get out fishing this board (and other things like tying, magazines, books & videos) is the only way to feed my addiction. So I'll be here for a while. Just to know that there are other people that feel the same way as I do makes me want to tune in, regardless of the occasional clashes. In my experience in life it's to be expected that when you put people who are passionate about something together it's inevitable that emotions will spark, some more flammable than others. I think that everyone who has sought out this board, taken the time to become a member, actually post occasionally and read all the stuff on here deep down have the same love and hold to the same values. And whenever someone steps out of line (by laying a fish on dry rocks for a photo or something like that) it's not because they are intentionally trying to harm fish or be a duuf. It's usually because they didn't know or we didn't really see the whole picture. I've learned a lot of 'what not to do thanks to this board and am grateful for it. Unfortunately it was always at some poor souls expense - because they're enthusiasm got the best of them and they wanted to share the joy that they felt that day on the river. I think that rather than jump down someone's throat by reacting to something you don't like, it's way more safe (and more accurate) to assume that they have good intentions and take a more positive approach to correcting them for a screw up (or trying to confirm an assumption that we're jumping to). anyway that's my 5 cents. On a side note, i'm willing to offer a give-away: I have a sasquatch in my deepfreeze in the basement and would be willing to let someone (preferrably someone with media connections) come take a look. peace out. brew
