One thing about what you are fishing with is that you have to have faith in it, or you will not fish it properly or thoroughly. The other thing is that what you might call poorly tied flies are rough and actually provide more movement in the water than some well tied patterns. For example a Tom Thumb seems to get more productive as it is pulled apart by fish taking it. Most flies are tied to appeal to aesthetics first and the fish second, so it really doesn't matter what your skill level is as a tyer, you can and will still catch fish. Weedy what is that pattern? Could you show a pic from another angle?

I thought there was one in Lethbridge? Or is that just Trout Unlimited?

I think if you want the one bill convenience it is a good idea. A couple of months ago the minister of energy and whatever, was quoted as saying he hadn't seen a plan that saved anyone anything as of that time. I don't get a choice because they do not offer it to people outside of large centres it seems.

I use a lot of his saddles and a couple of capes. I think the quality is great. Pacres is right, if you can wait until the show it might be beneficial....Kerry

Try phoning the Calgary shop and have them mail them to you? I'll look here as well and if I find them in the Edmonton shop I'll pick some up for you, I was going to get some anyway....Kerry

You are worthy and it really is no more rediculous than some of the other realistics out there. He did a pretty cool job on the critter! I need to look further to see if there is a tying description....

I know Wholesale Sports in Calgary has them I would think that the shop in Lethbridge could get them in for you if they do not carry them....Kerry

If they look good when you get them do you want to take a count etc. of who would like one, I would if you do....Kerry

I think all of these are great suggestions, I grew up fishing some of the waters Haig-Brown wrote of and fished on. I also have his season books in one edition titled "Seasons of the Fisherman." I would also recommend "Caddisflies" by Gary Lafontaine. The one thing I picked up from reading several of his books, was to think out of the box and Caddisflies is also the definitive work on the insect. Either way thoug, you will have some good reading with any of the books suggested here.

Yeah well put on your asbestos suits and listen up! And if that didn't scorch your cajones... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADvvWQ-PBMs...feature=related -
Great job! That will work and that is what counts in the end. Great first fly, mine looked like a window killed moth the first time I tried it.

Great job. The tinsel work looks good!
-
Yep that rates right up there with bizarre things I have seen! Almost looks surreal!

I don't always tie it with large hackle either. The shorter palmered hackle allows it to sit lower in the surface film.

Finally thought I would catch up on this thread. I have some of those hooks I tied the dancing caddis with....still have a couple of dozen somewhere.

Google it. I think Loon Outdoors makes something to de-ice your guides with. Vaseline may work but it is petroleum based so it may not like your flyline, though I usually abstain when it gets that cold. Okay I Googled it. Loon Outdoors makes an environmental friendly product called "Ice Paste." http://www.heartlandflygear.com/product_in...c3e10eaf98a7f40

Ron MacLean used to camp at our house/farm on the odd weekend when I was a kid....we were around the same age. Our Dads used to work together in Victoria.

The Fishtales kit sounds like it was made locally for local tying, that would be a great start I would think.

Don I know what you mean and though the best course of action for me was to just go in and actually talk to someone, about 60% of the time you talk to some fluffy thing who gives you a spiel by rote. Still I would say you need to go in and tell them what you need.....can you even get a phone without a camera anymore? I am looking for a new local cell for one of my daughters and I have to go and make the rounds again myself. Good luck.

Beacause the materials tend to be so prolific I would suggest one of two courses of action. Either check for a local flyfishing club and join them or ask at a fly shop. They will be able to help you with tools etc. you do not need a top of the line vise, actually I have an older one you can have if you like. Nothing fancy but it will work until you decide to move to a better one. Pick two or three local patterns and buy the materials you need to tie them, again you can check with the shop ast to some easy patterns to start with. The materials you buy for them will also be useful for other patterns as well and doing it this way you get just the stuff you need and there is less confusion than with a lap full of materials you do not know how to use. So for example, maybe pick up hooks and materials for a black Woolly Bugger, Haresear Nymph and say a leech pattern. That leaves you with a small handful of material and three patterns to work on until you are comfortable, then move on to something else. Pick up a book on tying even if you join a club as you will want to learn what you can even when there is nobody around to help out and check here often for help as well. Let me know if you want the vice, you can PM your address and I'll mail it to you....Kerry

Birchy if you go to Canadian Tire and pick up a wax toilet gasket it will give you enough dubbing wax for the next two decades. It is soft beeswax and I have been using it for probably 15 years now. I think it will cost you 2 to 3 dollars if I remember correctly. Use a sucrets tin or something like it and put a bit into that and store the rest, or gice it away....

Many other unpleasant aspects of TV are already creeping in to society, so I have to believe it is not stretch of the imagination to say it will/may/might affect people, the public, us etc.
