  1. Russ congratulations on the arrival of your flyfisher to be....one word of advice if you haven't realized it already. You don't have babies.....babies have you! Enjoy your kids everyone!
  2. Cool pics! Mine are 12.13 and 19. Embarrasing moments during our last pregnancy was when the doctor asked my wife if she had a close idea of how far along she was. Her answer? 7:30pm February 22....sigh!
  3. Check Vic Bergmans site for recent reports. http://www.crowsnestangler.com/mainpanel.p...8173ecc84547c1c
  4. I don't know, Opera and the bagpipes both give me goosebumps! (I never said that!) He is incredible.....can you find the whole scene somewhere?
  5. So on WFN we can watch some of the British fishing matches. I find them kind of interesting because they are a new thing, but I imagine there may be strong feelings on the part of some of the UK friends? My question though is, are there British or European flyfishing shows that could be shown as well? I want to write to WFN with suggestions (who knows maybe they will listen) so I thought I would ask our friends from across the Atlantic.
  6. In my experience, limited as it is with BWO's. There are usually so many on the water that it is sometimes amazing that the fish pick yours out from the others. Is that the reason for the orange thread? I like the fly just curious about the colour as well.
  7. This is probably a thing of the past, but a few years ago my then, fishing partner who also did alot of woodwork, would go to Calgary and ask the cabinet makers if he could dumpster dive, He usually brought home large enough pieces to do his work with. Not sure if you can do that anymore but thought I would mention it....Kerry
  8. :D :D :D Well done!!!! We need to hear the story??!! Picture of the fly?? Great looking fish!! You probably know but rinse all of the saltwater out of your reel.
  9. That is a cool bone! Hope you find more of the critter and keep us posted....on the otherhand I just watched a bunch of stupid unicorns doing something....I knew I shouldn't have licked that foil pack in the 60's!
  10. I may take the kids out in the boat but I won't be on the rivers etc. I don't go on weekends typically.
  11. May thine rod bend heavily under the weight of a mighty fish several times today.
  12. I used to fish the Cherry Point beach. Try it on a flood tide, probably the last few hours of it and pick up some good stremers in red or pink and white. Coho like red. Sounds like you are on the right track...Kerry
  13. Trout Slayer I see your point and totally agree with your reasoning. My oldest daughter was special needs and required my wife to quit her job and do what needed to be done for a decade or so. In those days we could get by on one income. We lost some ground financially no doubt I feel the effects now as we age our way to retirement. It used to be that traditionally the wife would work to make extra cash for well....extras. Now the economy has eveolved so that I do not see how people on a single income could afford to rent a home let alone buy one. The scope of what has happened to the people due to the economy is huge and pretty hard to change. Daycare can be a great experience as long as you have a good one that you can use.
  14. I have all kinds of stuff I have printed off and collected. Every time I clean out my desk I end up with a larger pile so yeah I can put it in a binder and keep it together. I should have done that some time ago. I cannot save stuff to a file on my computer then read it off the screen when I need it, I have to have the paper, I think it is easier to read for me. I never was able to enjoy reading alot of dialogue off the screen. I collect alot of notes etc. from articles and even from magazines that I don't want to tear apart so I photocopy it and store it away. Persoanlly I like the binder idea. If for nothing else than bringing order to chaos.....and I like paper.
  15. Nice to see some common sense here. I agree with some of the original letter/post but times change, technology changes and what we do changes. I mean at one time thalidamide was thought to be safe. My Dad worked in a shipyard where they told him there was no proof that working inside a steel hull while riveters worked outside was dangerous to your hearing. My question almost every day though, is why we let kids who can barely ride a bike, navigate through traffic in the city? I mean man I have several heart attacks every week and I am very careful around bike riders. Anyway, good posts good answeres!!!
  16. Thanks!! I will give them a call at Coutry Pleasures and see what I can find!
  17. I like that style. Sort of reminds me of some Haig-Brown flies I tied a few years ago.
  18. Mike I took a casting class years ago with Neil but by then I had so many bad habits there was no hope. Is that book/binder still available?
  19. That's a hard question because I learned 90% of what I know from books, there was nobody to teach me when I started in '69....or at least nobody that had time. I think the book that got me looking at materials was by Poul Jorgensen "Modern Flydressing for the Practical Angler" I think that is the title.....too lazy to run downstairs. But LaFontaines books as well as Helen Shaws book were invaluable....Hmmm. I guess even though it is out of print I'll go with Poul Jorgensens'book.
  20. If you are putting them in the washer maybe try the gentle cycle? The straps may not like the heavy agitation?
  21. What kind of tool is that you are using and yes I know I am leaving myself wide open...but I like gadgets and stuff and I must have one!
  22. Well that's it! Another poor soul addicted! I hope you guys are satisfied! Nice fish though!
  23. I hope it turns out for you! There used to be a way down under the bridge by Mill Bay....can't remember if it is on the north side or south side of the Island Hwy where it goes through the edge of town there. But at anyrate you cross a good sized stream (Millstream??) Anyway if they haven't built that up you may still be able to walk down to the estuary there and fish searuns if they have not closed it. Let us know how it works out.
  24. I grew up fishing there. The trestle south of Lake Cowicahn on down would be my favourite stretch. Check at Bucky's in Duncan, the Kennets have been their fishing all of their lives and can help you out. Shawnigan Creek used to be good in the Fall but I haven't seen it for some time. Same with the Chemainus River. I don't suppose you have a tube or anything? Somenoes Lake can be good as well. If you go up to Cowichan Lake itself you may still be able to fish where the river comes out or go out past Youbou and fish the mouth of Cottonwood Creek. To be honest though, that stretch of river above Skutz is one of the best places. If you have some large woolly buggers or a crayfish type fly, sweep them under log jams and undercuts. Wish I was there I love the place, should never have left....Kerry
