Just don't speed, or do your best not to. I know the QE11 is a pain because you have to deal with traffic going 3 to 5km/h below the speed limit as well as the BULK of the travellers doing 20+km/h over the speed limit. I find myself always fighting to maintain the speed limit and staying in the right lane. Speed is a proven killer, speed and texting? Speed and crosswords? Speed and reading books? Speed and filing papers (yep on the Yellowhead no less.) How about the "Caution Baby On Board" signs in the windows of the cars blasting past me??? If you are speeding you are in danger and you become dangerous to others.

I've been dealing with them for a couple of years now, never had a bad experience and the free shipping is a big plus. I still buy from shops in Edmonton, but Fort Sask. is in the neighborhood and you can't always find what you are looking for at any one place.

My wife is Type 2 and uses metformin with good success. Insulin is usually perscribed only if metformin does not do the job.

I always use the RV and Boat trader to get an idea of the price that boats in a particular class go for. That being said Flytyer has a good point as well. This is a poor time of year if you are trying to get the most money for it. What are you selling? Someone here may be interested?

Don I think I remember the doilies. That should be a similar vinyl to the rolls of picnic table covering? Sort of opaque?

What a Catch The New FlyFisher

So if I want to commit to 3 years do I go to the same person? $100/yr? I probably lose that much change in the wash every year, seems reasonable to me for what it gives back. What I don't understand is why, with the number of anglers that frequent the watershed in question, is it such a stretch to find enough people to donate to the fund. I live in the northern half of Alberta, but in order for there to be fish and habitat for me to come and enjoy a couple of times a year $100 seems like a small sacrifice. Anyway I will phone next week and send a cheque.

Not that it matters that much but I did not receive a receipt either and I have other projects to work on so I just can't be bothered to chase it down.

I think that part of the problem is that Governments and their agencies use all kinds of excuses to delay decisions that may appear to be an admission that this is even an issue. If I look back say 45 years I can see that if we had erred on the side of caution many things would have turned out for the better. Political methodology seems to be to wait for a definitive answer, argue with anything put forward, ask for a more definitive answer and then try and act when it is too late. Thalidimide and Cod stocks come to mind. I am not sure if it is our nature to self destruct or if we can actually do anything to eefect change in the machine that runs the country(ies) and the world.

Hi there! I know I have been pretty scarce of late, though I check in once in awhile to see what is happening in the community. My attention has been diverted elsewhere for this past year as I and another friend of mine retired Sgt. Ray Fairweather, worked on a project that has been taking up my time in one way or another for almost three years. Project Healing Waters Flyfishing is an American based group that was started by Retired Naval Captain Ed Nicholson in Washington D.C. Ed saw flyfishing as a tool to help war veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and veterans who were learning to adjust their lives due to loss of limbs and other challenges. While Ed’s initial thought was a small local entity it now boasts 50 different groups around the U.S. with another 20 expected to start this year. A number of people have asked me why I did not start a separate strictly Canadian organization and I guess at some point I had to stop and think about it myself. PHW is a known entity with a proven track record. It is a name recognized by both TU and the FFF but even more importantly for me, bringing Project Healing Waters to Canada would mean that borders don’t matter when it comes to people helping people and that is what this is all about. Project Healing Waters Canada is all about Canadians helping Canadians but it is even more about people helping people. Last years PHW in the U.S. took some of our Canadian soldiers on a fishing trip in Northern Ontario. This year they are doing it again. Borders should not and do not matter when it comes to helping each other and having the Board of Directors of Project healing Waters Flyfishing, agree to allow the creation of a Canadian Branch was symbolic of this. There is some work left to do on my part and I am working at it as you read this. The plan is for a mid-June event in or near Edmonton this year. The issue we face is that our military works in a totally different manner than the American Military does, so I am rewriting the book so to speak. Where they can go into a Veterans Hospital and work with patients as well as take them on field trips, we will only be able to work with people on an outpatient basis, so they will have to find there way to us, though this will be facilitated with help from “Soldier on” a Canadian Military program. There is much more to tell you, but for the moment, I would like to talk to you, the members of this community and ask that if you think you would like to help in some way, teaching/mentoring, flies, loaned equipment the list goes on, please give it some thought. The first event will be here near Edmonton, but I believe that there will be more and that they will be happening in the Calgary and Lethbridge area as well. The FlyfishCalgary community is passionate about flyfishing and I hope that you will be willing to share some of that passion with the soldiers who need it. As a closing for this long winded post I would like to add that while Military Veterans are welcome, so are Police Veterans who need us and possibly other trauma victims who are directed to us. PHW Canada will endeavour to be an inclusive organization. I know there are more questions and I have more that should be said but I will hopefully do this through a series of posts as I keep you updated on our progress. I hooked myself right in the fishing partner. I didn't really feel anything, but there was alot of noise.

If you can find a shoal or shallow bay, you can sight fish them with a nymph and indicator. I am not sure where you are but sight fishing them is alot of fun if you can find a spot.....Kerry

The wet snow you guys got down there (and may it stay down there) is tough to drive in anyway. I notice up here though people are the same, I was coming home from work after a snowfall a fe days ago and even though the slush was quite deep and difficult to drive in trucks and mini-vans were passing and there was no way you could see the lanes or stop if you had to. Bunch of vehicles had slid into the ditch between east and west bound highways. I was in a small front wheel drive, good tires and I stayed a couple of kms/hr below the maximum speed limit with no problems. Many people miss the fact that it is a maximum speed not a minimum speed, unless posted as such. Probably glad you took the bus eh Birchy?

This is embarassing but I found a fairly long term cure. I took an office job 6 years ago and now I have computer hands. My hands are way too soft and snag free, but for dubbing I rub a tiny bit of wax into my finger tips. I always swore that I would never work in an office, but here I are!

Sorry about the angle but.... I trim the hackle on the bottom and change colours as needed. The wings are cut by hand from a woven mylar ribbon, but I think there is other similiar material out there..

That is muskrat fur, the colour is somewhat seasonal. I have only used this one of his patterns and only a couple of times in moving water. I did take Dlly Varden on it but as mentioned my best results were over submerged weed beds. I'll have to look for the nonedescript pattern as well.....Kerry

I use this pattern a lot in small lakes where there is a good population of Dragonfly nymphs. I tie it almost exactly as Polly Rosenborough tied it with no alteration except the head. He used black ostrich and I use peacock, the beadhead is a new addition, I typically use it without one. My best day on a small lake in northern B.C. was over 25 fish (I was counting because I was fishing against a guy with a Royal Coachman) over 22" and 1/2 a dozen under that size. Best fished over submerged weed beds, let it sink then a slow retrieve
