Thanks guys. I may drop the boat in there on the way by next year just for the heck of it.......Kerry

I agree. I figure it is a pretty open market for naming and claiming as long as nobody is really infringing on someone else too much. If I do a play on a pattern, for example putting a glass bead body on a muddler I would use muddler or sculpin in the name just so people know I am not trying to claim a whole new pattern.

I drive by the thing every time I go to the Crowsnest. I had a look at a map of the lake and it looks like there is a big flat or shoal on the south end. Apparently there are trout as well. So has anyone here ever fished it?

Fly Fishing Book Suggestions?
Inconnu replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Did you read "Blight Way"? Hey Birchy if you can ever find some Haig-Brown books. The books he wrote for the four seasons have been compiked into one large book called "Seasons of the Fisherman." Barring that Boblaw is right go light and try some McManus, just don't read it while the wife is trying to sleep.....you end up laughing too much. I wonder....I haven't stopped in Castlegar too often, if they have a used book shop you might poke around, you are in fishing country you may find a couple of good reads. -
I think really the best you can do is to avoid the obvious. You already know alot of existing names so try something you haven't heard before.....if you look around say at the Babine Special you will find it under several names so the reverse is also true. There are so many people out there tying so many variations that names and patterns are bound to replicate sometimes. Good luck and yup I think I have created a large number of flies over the years and realistically about 6 patterns are still iin my repetoire.

Thanks I was wondering if it was furnace or a dark ginger.

Nice job on the hackle! Great pattern and that mule deer tail stabalizes it and helps it float. I don't think I have ever tied a Trude pattern and so now I must. Thanks!

Sorry I always have trouble with the translation from one country to the other!

Russ congratulations on the arrival of your flyfisher to be....one word of advice if you haven't realized it already. You don't have babies.....babies have you! Enjoy your kids everyone!

Cool pics! Mine are 12.13 and 19. Embarrasing moments during our last pregnancy was when the doctor asked my wife if she had a close idea of how far along she was. Her answer? 7:30pm February 22....sigh!

So on WFN we can watch some of the British fishing matches. I find them kind of interesting because they are a new thing, but I imagine there may be strong feelings on the part of some of the UK friends? My question though is, are there British or European flyfishing shows that could be shown as well? I want to write to WFN with suggestions (who knows maybe they will listen) so I thought I would ask our friends from across the Atlantic.

In my experience, limited as it is with BWO's. There are usually so many on the water that it is sometimes amazing that the fish pick yours out from the others. Is that the reason for the orange thread? I like the fly just curious about the colour as well.

This is probably a thing of the past, but a few years ago my then, fishing partner who also did alot of woodwork, would go to Calgary and ask the cabinet makers if he could dumpster dive, He usually brought home large enough pieces to do his work with. Not sure if you can do that anymore but thought I would mention it....Kerry

Where Is Everyone Fishing?
Inconnu replied to trailhead's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I may take the kids out in the boat but I won't be on the rivers etc. I don't go on weekends typically. -
May thine rod bend heavily under the weight of a mighty fish several times today.

I used to fish the Cherry Point beach. Try it on a flood tide, probably the last few hours of it and pick up some good stremers in red or pink and white. Coho like red. Sounds like you are on the right track...Kerry

Trout Slayer I see your point and totally agree with your reasoning. My oldest daughter was special needs and required my wife to quit her job and do what needed to be done for a decade or so. In those days we could get by on one income. We lost some ground financially no doubt I feel the effects now as we age our way to retirement. It used to be that traditionally the wife would work to make extra cash for well....extras. Now the economy has eveolved so that I do not see how people on a single income could afford to rent a home let alone buy one. The scope of what has happened to the people due to the economy is huge and pretty hard to change. Daycare can be a great experience as long as you have a good one that you can use.

I have all kinds of stuff I have printed off and collected. Every time I clean out my desk I end up with a larger pile so yeah I can put it in a binder and keep it together. I should have done that some time ago. I cannot save stuff to a file on my computer then read it off the screen when I need it, I have to have the paper, I think it is easier to read for me. I never was able to enjoy reading alot of dialogue off the screen. I collect alot of notes etc. from articles and even from magazines that I don't want to tear apart so I photocopy it and store it away. Persoanlly I like the binder idea. If for nothing else than bringing order to chaos.....and I like paper.
