ggp Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Bought my first Hardy Marquis back in the early 70's and I now have several ranging in size from 6, 8/9, and a Salmon no.1 all of these reels are at least 20 years old and still work fine, in fact my first Marquis 6 is my go to reel for pink salmon when beach fishing...I now have several other brands but they will be hard pressed to stand up to those old Hardy's.

The other pretenders to the reel builders are hold-overs from the cold war when the CNC lathes used to build ICBM's. Gotta do something with the expensive equipment. How 'bout we make fishing reels. I've got some Hardys that are 35 years old. Still going although they have been cleaned and oiled now and then. Bought all the Hardy's over 25 years ago - before Islanders showed up. The second choice from the pile would be an Islander. Built in Canada - eh!! catch ya' Don
