I voted ross because of the lack of those 2

Bought my first Hardy Marquis back in the early 70's and I now have several ranging in size from 6, 8/9, and a Salmon no.1 all of these reels are at least 20 years old and still work fine, in fact my first Marquis 6 is my go to reel for pink salmon when beach fishing...I now have several other brands but they will be hard pressed to stand up to those old Hardy's.

Hardy is too loud? Man i find islanders reaallly loud (or it could be the sound of the cash register..cha-ching cha-ching as it gets turned :P)

My favorite the last two seasons (Incase no one knew that is how long I have been fly fishing for) would have to be my tiago, never cleaned, never brought in during the winter, and it still works perfect.

What's the matter with too loud? My favourite sound is BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ -- BZZZZZZZZ--BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ--BZZZZ--BZZZZZ--BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. The louder the better. I voted Islander btw. Terry

Hardy has been around about 3 times as long as most of you. The other pretenders to the reel builders are hold-overs from the cold war when the CNC lathes used to build ICBM's. Gotta do something with the expensive equipment. How 'bout we make fishing reels.

I've got some Hardys that are 35 years old. Still going although they have been cleaned and oiled now and then. Bought all the Hardy's over 25 years ago - before Islanders showed up.

The second choice from the pile would be an Islander. Built in Canada - eh!!

Norman...

Problem is that I've got about a dozen Hardy's. If they last 25 years each, I'd have to be 300 years old before I need another reel. Finally got enough stuff that the only things I really buy are "consumables".
