MrBotangles,

Missed the Red Sea thing but was on the Bow when it was really sick. That's when the refineries used a "once through" cooling system and the oils/gasoline/etc in the Bow made for some interesting smells. Now the sweet smell of gas is gone replaced with the effluent smell of 1,000,000 people crapping in the river every day. Oh, for the good old days!!

catch ya'

I first used a fly rod at beauvais and phyllis lake when i was 9 years old (shortly after moving here to Canada) but it was just trolling flies so i dont count that since there was no casting involved. so I guess i'm at about the 16 year mark now. later

Bought my first flyrod in 76 just before I went to Great Bear Lake as a guide. First few times using it, I went to Stauffer Creek, talk about the wrong kindergarten. Used it almost exclusively since then. Hey Don, I remember running into guys with rods from you in the early 80's, when did you start selling them?

Fishing for about 45 and flyfishing for 25.

Learned on Morse , Freeman, etc. around Swan Hills when I worked in Virginia Hills.

Several hundred dollars worth of Royal Coachmans lining the trees of those rivers...love those Arctic Grayling (Thymallus Arcticus).

I am new to this forum, but I have been fly fishing for 33 years. 30 of those

years have been flyfishing stillwaters. But I was born and raised fly fishing

the Elk River and tribs in B.C. I have also fished every lake in the East Kooteney's

for the past 30 years. So in the future I sure hope to post some topics and

some of the trips that I take. I have lived in Calgary for the past 20 years or

so, and I do fish some of the waters in Alberta. So you might hear from me from

time to time on this forum.

So Hello to everyone, and even though I do not know you Birchy I hope your

procedure goes well.

I started fly fishing when i was 10 years old.

my dad and uncle had my brother and i out casting on the lawn for hours.

once we got good enough at casting they took us with them. first trip would have been beaver ponds for brookies.

i took 2 years off so that would leave 9 years fishing.

by the way i have always lived within walking distance to the river, so im on it about 4 days a week.

Fished for 40 yrs.

Started spin casting at 3.

Started tying flies at 12, stopped at 15.

Started fly fishing for pike at 20 stopped at 25, kept spin casting.

Started fly fishing for Trout at 38, haven’t stopped yet, dropped the spin casting.

Started tying flies again at 41.

Next step - move somewhere with streams and rivers, enough of this pothole lake crap!
