eeeeee, no thanks. i like my 'fish where you may as per the regs' kind of fishing so what if you know the farmer who owns the land that the river runs through... are there still clubs involved or if not, can you just get permission from the landowner

alrighty oh, (no direct translation) [ok] let's set this straight... Rick... You are talking to the original [tall and/or lanky] gangster of fly fishing... in Calgary anyway... like come on who else says 'dope' and don't mean [joints/reefers] or 'slaying them', and not killing anything or calling whitefish cracker (another slang for white people you're from the south - figure it out ) a@@ed fish... Cheeler, I should have showed you my loop 14 foot 9 wieght yellow [speyrod]... she is yellow and has been out for 3 years now... king of swing... we will see about that, I have been swinging my whole line single handed and just picked up the spey... I will give it to you now... But Rick, mine is WAY BIGGER... Brent, I just follow the catch and release [method] when it comes to fishing and women, until I find the one no one else can top... (keep it positive buddy - editorial comment) and I will beat you up over fly fishing... laughing my a@@ off... what a thread.... ok, that was my best Maxwell - English translation I could do with approximate punctuation. translating from another language is always an iffy process unless you are fluent in both languages. so this was more of a guessitmate figurative translation.

oh yeah, forgot about the skaters... peggy flemming, dorothy hamil, talher cranston (sp on both accounts), scott hamilton, the japanese american figure skater that won a gold in singles awhile back - yamaguchi??, and silver girl calgary 88 canadian. the skaters were not my thing, that was my mom, i just happened to be dragged around because she skated with most of the professionals that are between 55 - 65 now back in the 60's.

i have a picture with princess diana 85 or 86 i think. ray charles, the nylons (before paul and marc died), michael j fox, have a picture with jim nabours (sp?) carol burnett, darcy rhoda, paul baxter is my 2nd or 3rd cousin, worked at the saddledome next to the conference room in 2000 - 01 met most of the team, coaches and scouts, bob from seasame street, diana ross - danced with her on stage in 82 or 83, tiger williams (went to school with his son also), guy lafleur, lou pasaguila (sp? bc lions kicker) there are a few more, but i dont remember at the moment

Fishing Around Calgary During The Stampede????
ladystrange replied to DanTCook's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
caught my first brown on the bow this year during stampede on a drift with a golden stone. great action all day. excellent time to fish. but if you'd like there some gorgeous small cutty streams south of the Crow, some very secluded areas, not a lot of traffic, could hit those on a weekend and not see a person around, then pass you off to Hawg, Max and Toolman for mid-week Crow action. best part of next july will be that the area i usually go was closed for all of august and most of september, the fish havent been bothered much this year. hope for a short memory and hungry fish, they should be very active in early-mid july as the eastern slopes will only have been open for a few weeks by then. as for the city, hardly shuts down, the grounds themselves are a zoo but the rest of the city, you dont need to spend 20 mins waiting for beer or food. but it is a heck of a party -
oh i like that version. getting better. sorry, i'm a YVRer now in YYC. i know a graphic guy who is a member, or at least he is friends with a graphic guy, just dont see him on much. and if coaldale has an IATA city code, it would start with an X.

hey i said that ok, it was a round about sort of way, but that is what i was getting at.
-
he's cute. looks like a flying snoopy to me.
-
hah. ok. i'll do that. thanks

ah well, not exactly... as i said, i could go on. what you might really want to do is go and pick up a beginners tying book, ie: anything of skip morris. i have one of his books, someone else mentioned another. it was a recent post,, like yesterday or the day before. there are a few names of books to look at. read through them. being with basic materials and basic skills. really you need thread and dubbing and you have a fly. then add hackle, or a hairwing or a parachute or, or, or and so on. tails, ribs. i think my first fly was a brassie. 1 bead head, a little peacock herl and brass wire. i brushed my dog for dubbing, i also have a cat available in white AND black. look at what you normally fish with, take those materials and learn the patterns, build on your skills and then advance to a different pattern with similar materials. sure you could go spend 5K on tying stuff, very easily, or you can start with about $500, less if you have a taxidermist.
-
oh, where to begin... go to fly shop and take one of everything... ok seriously. what do you fish the most on your store bought flies? look at what you use most regularly and breakdown the materials. lot of materials are duplicated in many of similar patterns. all items in various colours dubbing, threads, strung hackle (cheap but passible for learning), marabou, chenielle deer, elk, buck tails, calf tail and/or body. beads for nymphs, silly or zebra legs (if something you would normally fish with), gold and silver tinsel, flat and oval, krsytal flash if you like streamers, red/copper/gold etc wire, lead or lead sub, golden pheasant tippet i could go on.

also, try shortening the beard just a smidge so it almost or meets the hook point good 2nd fly

-
thank god you remembered your boxers
