Think Your Kid Has Problems? It Could Be Worse.
ladystrange replied to kungfool's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
OMG that kid has problems. i would calmly walk into the room, pick said child up by the ears and deposit in bedroom with nothing but the matress on the floor. take computer to the dump and cancel the cable. tv goes too. he needs to get out of the house and get dirty. nothing like fresh air and hard manual labour -
oddly, i have found that any variant of a micky fin streamer works well in most rivers. and egg head leeches for lakes in spring

i tied mine last night. i'll post before the weekend. that sure is pretty

midges and chronies can be fairly simple or very frustrating. it can be difficult to judge size and amounts of materials when just starting out. since midges are usually tied on 16 or smaller hooks, they can be hard to see and need to be rather exacting. if you are starting out on your very first fly having never tied anything before, with no lessons or anything of the sort, i would suggest starting out with something a little larger. perhaps a 10-14. there are some good tutorials on this site. troutflies.com this site has a beginners fly section, what to tie and how to do it. flyanglers just my opinion, but if you are starting out. dont worry about what you are tying or for what reason, start with basic patterns and techniques that are universal to different patterns. practice one or 2 techniques on each hook and then move on to another set of techniques and so on until you have the basics. once you are comfortable and understand the whys, hows etc. move on to putting the techniques to use in a complete pattern. again, start out easy and at a comfortable size and then move. but if you have your heart set on a size 20 bead head midge as your first fly, the link din provided is good.

i have water striders, combo sole, hiking rubber on the outside, and the middle is felt and studs. i love them. very comfortable, so far durable. has the scuff toe material and really good ankle support. i had a pair of just felt soles and then i used my hiking boots for awhile. i do find that the studs make a difference in slime covered rocks and loose shale or gravel slopes

Din, different 'competition'. you were talking about the attractor nymph tying competition being run by dr bulltrout. this is a set of flies as a group creation, and if i'm thinking correctly, it will either be a part of a swap, or vote on mascot.. depends on what flytyer has in mind. we just need to brainstorm on a way to get this moving a bit. it is difficult to 'pick' the next person from random because who knows if they will actually post. and then we wait and wait.

since you are from back east there Harry, will foregive your lack of geography in the pacific. Honolulu is on the Island of Oahu, not the "big Island" of Hawaii. although a lot of people do get the 2 mixed up because Honolulu is the commerce centre, most people expect it to be on the island that the state is named for. but alas no. no, i didnt fly fish in Kauai - another island. next major trip i do will be the south pacific and the other islands of hawaii. i was young. we lived there off and on with my grandfather for a few months of the year until i was about 10 and then we only went to visit a few more times after that until he passed away. weel before i started fly fishing. too bad though, the aquatic life is amazing. i swam with sea turtles though. Hey, dog is on the cover of the national enquirer this week headlining that he is a racist. lol. saw that at 7-11 yesterday. -
my god. beautiful yes. but talk about no personal space, getting lines crossed up and so on. bow is not so bad. saw one guy leaving the river to day and that was it.

deer hair post the site that Flytyer posted is great for info. the link i posted is a thread we just had that goes over a bunch of stuff and may answer your questions for treating.

Rock - there arent many of us, which is the why i get all the funny looks and yes they do say things like that, actually happened when i was meeting play doh and he was already at the river and Knotlikely went ahead of me. rickr - i would love that. but i get myself in enough trouble as it is. lol LF. generally it isnt the guys who are fishing that seem to have a problem. a few of the older ones give me the double take - that was the 'ur a girl?' question. i've had that on more that one occation. lol mostly the guys 55/60 and under seem to very accepting and willing to share. the grandpa over 80 treat me like a granddaughter. there just seem to be a few 60- 80 who are still feisty enough to think the river is theirs and a girl should not be fishing unles they are with their husbands, it just isnt done, this single female thing... i think it just weirds them out or confusses them or something. i think there are a few more days. maybe i will look again. but then i would have to get the pink reel.
