  1. now it looks like he has one big arm and one skiny arm. the symmetry is off again. looks like he's using one arm for something a lot more than the other
  2. i can head down after work on the friday and stay over if someone doesnt mind me crashing in my truck in a driveway.
  3. here is a point of view from someone who has watched a few spey casters but has never speyed myself, i have fished the thompson and the fraser as well as a number of other really large, deep and fast moving rivers. i've also managed to fish with around a dozen members from the forum. sorry greg, i havent managed to get to you yet. i have waded, canoed and done a drift with guide on the bow. i have a fairly consistent range of 60ft with my single hand 6wt rod. i do have issues with the backcast and space. if there is a piece of grass taller than 3ft anywhere behind me - i will catch it. i'm not a big girl with gorilla shoulders and the back of a mule. i physically do not have the upper body strenght that the men do. just the way it is. so the curiosity for me is reducing the effort and energy needed. i may not NEED to cast out farther than 60 on the Bow, but there are some seams and trenches that are beyond my distance ability. it would be nice to have an additional set of skills to be able to hit those seams IF i so felt the urge to. there is some grace to the different spey casts that i find kind of enchanting. but what i find really interesting is the ability with the leverage of the longer rod and heavier lines to be able to nicely swing 60-80 ft of line out without my back cast also being 35ft + behind me and to do so with less effort. the less effort i put out the longer i can fish for without injury. the bow drift was fun and i caught my first brown that day, as well as a few others. i had my 8wt only because i forgot my reel for the 6wt. i only needed to cast 10 - 30 ft using a simple over hand cast but after 5 hours of that, my wrist, shoulders and back were pretty sore. i found the drift went by too quickly. so i discovered - interesting experience but i prefer wading. which means crap, kids, dogs, trees, grass etc will be behind me. personaly, i am intrigued with the possibilities of extending my distance without affecting the length of my back cast. i think some of the excitement surrounding the recent popularity of the spey on this forum is because there are a number of very visible and outspoken members who have taken it up and said, check this out, i tried this and this is what i have discovered. it interests people and they try it. either they like it or they dont but it seems more often than not, the people trying are really enjoying a new to them technique - for whatever personal reasons. Fishhead, i'm not saying you should be blowing flowers up people's arses or that you have to play nice with anyone you may or may not have an issue with. but unprovoked attacks are not necessary. if you really want to call someone out, do it by PM. i come here to learn and meet people who have similar interests, not read your tantrums
  4. ahh, i see. very interesting concept. interesting way to divide up usage. i hope it prevents over crowding on the river
  5. nice meeting you Rock at the event. thanks for buying tickets from me. i cant wait for the spring event
  6. a few pages back there was a reference to the ladies stepping up. so other than roasting weenies i will also join a team. whomever may want me... are we looking at a one day event in march or are we going to do a weekend thing come july or both? enough of the testosterone kids. it's a fun event to get us together for some laughs. we all know there are a dozen people kicking around here who can cast a 100fter on a single hand rod. i would not be one of them but would love to develope the technique. so if that is something that i can get out of this, that would be great. and if someone would like to show me some of those different casts so i dont stare blankly and blink when asked to do it, that would be nice as well. i'm still working on the double haul.
  7. can you splay the tail a tad, not much
  8. old ones. and you werent supposed to get that one, because u is the oluns
  9. RIIIIIIIIGHT?!? no clue, i'm sure very rarely are parents ever impressed by the things their off-spring do. you could donald trump and still be barely passible. at least in my family anyway.
  10. ok if harry can drag his sorry butt up there, i can too. it might take me 3.5 hours and i may have to start at 5am but i WANT to do that.
  11. southfork, that is what i was thinking of. ok so it is the same thing.
  12. spending you school money on fishing stuff, eh? i think i want those socks too. i'm in the house in a heated room and my feet are still cold. mind you, i'm female, my arse and feet are always cold and looking for someone warm to stick them on LOL
  13. that should be the last weekend of stampede. and i think it was the other lake, not barnaby. barnaby was a 2 day trip if i remember correctly or a fly in
  14. hike-ins. there is one hike accessable golden trout lake, the trailhead is not far from the castle mountain resort. and it can be done in a day. i havent fished it and i would just slow you down, but i know a few people who have - fish dont get much action but they are really picky. not too many places you can fish for golden trout. a few limited lakes in southern alberta and california? i could probably find out the name as it escapes me currently and where the trailhead is on a map. there are also a few grayling lakes too not far out of town. quarry in canmore, wedge in k-country and bear pond. the first two no hike, just a stroll. bear - best to have a pontoon but dragging it up the bloody hill SUCKS!!! otherwise the walk should take normal people only 10 -15 minutes
  15. you would be in the 1st years, then there are the young guns - max, brent etc who have more than 1 yr and less than 30, being that they are only 20 ish and the oldtimers for those who have more than 30 years of fly fishing experience. they might not have all the casts or shoot the longest or the straights lines, but sure as hell, they'll cheat well enough to catch the most fish because they've been doing it longer i want to learn the cheating part
  16. where did you go to school? who teaches fly tying as part of your home-ec/life skills classes. i had one semester of wood working, sewing, cooking and electronics. i would have rather done the fly tying
  17. who is starting the next fly?
  18. maybe we should have an oldtimers team, those who have been fly fishing for over 30 years. let them show us how it is really done.
  19. it will be an excellent opertunity to learn for everyone and from everyone. i'm sure we all have our strong points as well as our weeknesses, like bum arms/shoulders/backs/necks/bums/legs
  20. i will roast your weenie for you rickr, no worries LOL i've been fly fishing for 16 years ish but only seriously for 6 and i didnt know what half the casts were. well, i know, just cant exactly do, shall we say. and i'm staying out of the nymphing. dry flies, small stream, i'm all over that. dustin, if we get this camping weekend in the castle area next summer, i'm going to take you up the gardner, there was a really big bull under a really tight over hanging willow in 1ft of water, 3ft from open water current, as close to the bank as you can get. we drifted dries past his nose that just werent quite close enough and chucked streamers to piss him off and nothing. if he comes back, i'd like to invite you to give it a go.
  21. is anyone heading down for that? i would be interested in carpooling
  22. i will host the bbq, bring your meat and throw it down. i'll take care of it. perhaps i should rephrase that. mostly for SJW. i will babysit the grill and the cooler. i would be in need of a grill, however. i will bring the ketchup, musturd, buns for the hotdogs and hamburgers but y'all have to bring what you want cooked... on the grill. and ur own drinks. i can do a coleman stove for hot chocolate and coffee. a sunday would be best for me but hey i'm not fishing until after food. so my opinion doesnt really count for much. cause any idiot can operate a bbq not blowing everyone up is the real challenge
  23. i dnot thk i was anewhre close too waht u were sayin btu at least teh oluns ill hve soem dircetoin lol tryn btu not so gansta. poor lil cracka chick, no so dwon wit de lingo
  24. huummmmm, after the ringing endorsements and rickr's - caution salt notice, i'm going to have to see if i have any baking powder in the house... and pan. how do you turn a stove on? perhaps i can build a fire in the oven?
  25. Bonus!!! rye, wings, fly tying, some sport jibberish in the background and you sexy guys!!! I can hardly wait. LMAO
