  8. i tie my own odd creations. but both of those should work, but bigger, along with the double bunnies. but basically, lots of flowy marabou and flashy stuff with some lead eyes come to the hook n' hackle meeting on wednesday. i'll show you how to palmer the hackle.
  9. mine was an optico or something like that, fits my panasonic and the pentax. i believe it depends on the base of your camera, should be universal thread size. i dont remember mine being marked. and it's in the truck. too cold to go outside and check
  10. we can definately do that. it is fun, they hit hard, then they feel like a boot until they get close and can see you. they hang out under the over pass. last year i was kicking back to the dock under the over pass with my line in the water. i guess the trolling was doing it for the pike that day. i get half way under the pass when i get one on. only problem, 9ft rod with only 5ft above me and 8ft on either side. so i'm kicking like mad, it's tryign to drag me back the other way. i finally get to the other side and he goes limp, i reel him in and he starts to pull again. heads back under the over pass. i reel him in again and got him into my lap, note - bring a net, cant get rid of pike slim, and they stink. un hooked him and tossed him back. he was about 27inches.
  11. the complete fly fisherman series is very good. everything from fly tying techinques to casting techniques, gear, rods, lines etc. i have 2 of them and they are the ones i started with. i have 2 more in the truck that i read when i'm waiting. too cold right now but if i remember to bring them in tomorrow night, i will.
  12. thank you Greg. ouch. that wasnt very nice worm, i mean Dave, i'm going to go cuddle my rod and reel. LOL i'm just excited. and i want to go fishing, when it's not -15 in 30km wind. Brent, you just get the benefit of my sunday morning bed head and half closed eyes. sorry kid, not getting all gussied up on a sunday morning to buy tying supplies just to go back home and tie. :P to all of you except Greg . i'd send a kiss if there was a kiss emo thing
  13. not like 45+ inches no, but average is around 30.
  14. i'm still fiddling with the drag system. never had a reel with an actual drag before. but soooo smooooth. i love my new rod. the reel will fit under my pillow. i could sleep with my new reel tonight.
  15. here is the thread. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...ic=1923&hl= if alberta's trout highway isnt on the list somewhere, it should be. there is also a number of excellent tying books listed in the fly tying forum
  16. anyone for pike at chestermere. dont laugh it's fun in a pontoon or belly boat, float tube. as soon as break up starts and the ice clears, give it a few nice days and the beginning of May is golden
  17. anything in particular? how tos on tying, how to read streams, basics of casting, spey stuff? i have a shelf full of stuff, more like back seat of my truck full of books. but with so many to chose from, give me some ideas and i can narrow it down.
  18. not even cheap women... i have a 5/6, now lined only as a 6. just got my new orvis 5 and new reel - thx brent. and OMG, it casts amazing. makes me look GOOD! i love my new rod, want to go to sleep with it. unfortunately the cold metal case it came in is not so comfy under the pillow. but i do pet it every night before i go to bed. i love my new rod. i think i need another so it isnt lonely
  19. here you go. syncline is located on hwy 774 outside of beaver mines (hwy 507 south of #3) westish, on the way to castle mountain rivers in the area south of the crow... north and south lost, suicide, carbondale, lynx, west castle, castle, south castle, north and south york, gardner stretching over 3 valleys but all connected through the back roads (carbondale hall road or river road, the adanak and the lynx road) from 774 and 507 to blairmore. for stillwaters there is beaver mines lake, lees lake and burmis lake. plus barnaby/southfork all the water is within 30min drive of the campground. castle, south and west castle are within 5 min. my fav is about a 20 min drive, depending on bovine traffic. try the link, not sure if it will work, hybrid map and satelite still. if it does, anything that looks like water in those valleys is what i'm talking about http://ca.maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=h&trf=0&...50272&mag=7
  20. Amen to that brutha
  21. i already did in the other thread. i'll go find it and copy/paste. i just gave Al a little more specific info on the water and location that's all
  22. thanks clive, thems ugly bugs
  23. got mine at walmart
  24. if you wanted a big streamer but not the double hook, you could snip off the main hook and just use the stinger. there was a thread in the fly tying about stinger hooks pros/cons
