  1. Funny, i watched a show about gophers on National Geopgrahic i believe and they had stated that from figures and estimates that post the colonization of north america by the whites that the gopher population has decreased over something like 80-90% from what it oringinally was. Makes you wonder how many there were in the days of the buffalo, and how much human influence has had on that specific species.
  2. http://www.break.com/index/ants-create-riv...other-ants.html Im sure that would make a tasty treat for any fish.....
  3. If your caught in BC poaching Salmon you can loose everything, these bastards should have they vehicles used in the video, the guns, the video camera, the computer used to upload, and numerous numerous fines given to em. Make an example
  4. These guys are soo ****ed when they get caught....... wow
  5. I got a friend who is a sales person for this and he says personally that it is a rip off (kinda), basically you are paying less then what shaw charges for basic cable, for the TV Portion anyways but thats all your really getting is basic cable. They say they offer something like 70 or 90 channels or what ever it is but 30-40 of those channels are music channels that is a blank screen, however still classified as a channel. So really in the end you are still getting a good deal, but not quite as good as your lead on to believe. Dustin
  6. well good thing i didnt go on their water and try and argue it. Anyways, thats not the point these individuals could have easly had ANY kind of manners instead of viewing us as young punks and politely told us in which case we woulda been happy to turn around. Regardless, i was less then impressed with the way they conducted themselves im 24 and have a ton more class then those 2.
  7. This by by no means a complaint or bitching, i just wanted to share a story and make other anglers aware of the right they have to be on the water in alberta. So yesterday (sat) me and Bryce were on the Crow and had covered a ton of water, We come around a bend and run into 2 fly fisherman, the only people we seen the entire day and we were suprised as we were a far ways away from any bridge and they looked older so in the heat of the day it must of been a hell of a hike for these gentleman (gentleman? haha yeah right). So we start walking up to talk to them and see what there fishing plans were so we didnt get in their way and were going to explain that we will huff it a good ways ahead of them so that the water has time to settle down by the time they get there to fish as well as some serious space and untouched water between us. However right from the get go we were met with attitude, so we said enjoy the day and we were heading upstream, which gained the reply of basically "How the hell are you going to do that, you cant go any further up past that strech there are two giant no tresspassing signs and no way your getting on the ****ing land", and we were like huh, then he told us how there was a Farm house on that land and that there was no way we were allowed to be there. Long story short im well aware of the high water mark, and im well aware of ellitest a holes and rich pricks who think that because they or their friend has a house on the river that we live in the US and that river belongs to them. Rather then cause problems me and bryce went and fished the pool just before the no tresspassing signs, and much to their dismay in the heat of the day when the fishing had slowed considerably landed 3 very nice rainbows in a short peiod. Now i woulda let this slide, but when they walked passed us and walked back to their or their friends farm house they gave us more attitude, and let us know for a 2nd time not to touch their piece of heaven. So just so everyone knows, unless they own the water rights in which case you are allowed to be on that water untill they PROVE that they own the water rights by showing you the documentation you are allowed to be on any river and creek within the high water marks. Dont let anyone tell you different. But much like many of you, you are like me and bryce and would rather avoid conflict. So needless to say we turned around and rather then get into an arguement in 30degree heat we headed back the way we had come. So just remember you have a ton of rights as an angler! oh and so anyone who cares this is the house and the people, hell they might even be on this board and some of you might know them, if you do tell them i say "Hi, go @#$( your hat"

    Solved

search the net for a leopord rainbow.... not by anymeans saying that this pic is the same species... i still think its a rainbow
  9. Thats not the point, good on him for not sharing, its the fact that he gets out there and walks the distance to find the spots he finds. Look at someone like Dave Jensen and his wife who do the same. Myself can be included as i have walked numerous miles into the middle of nowhere to find out that the creek i was hoping was a gem was a dud and there were no fish to be had, ive also had the complete opposite. Pick up a map, pick a new creek and go explore and when you find the Holy Grail keep it to yourself and then find a new one. Get out and enjoy the beauty that we call Alberta. Dont start to cry and moan when you find 20 other anglers on the Oldman, or Highwood on a Saturday afternoon. Once again people seem to be complaining about this and that and i cant catch 17 24inch fish when i go out anymore, consider yourself privileged that you are able to get out and enjoy the wilderness, that you can afford to fly fish, and that your not poverty stricken living day by day. Things could be a lot worse, you could be stuck in some 3rd world country starving, with some god awful disease, instead your all fighting on a fly fishing forum that’s sole purpose is to share stories, idea’s, and help beginners to the sport, not to fight and whine like spoiled brats. Im pretty much done with this forum, I have made some great friends on this site but enough is enough.
  10. pretty sure humblefisherman doesnt run into any other anglers on his adventures..... my advice much like some of the others is put on your adventure hat and start walking!!! sounds to me like a couple of weekend warriors
  11. I still have plenty of days when i dont run into any buddy, be thankfull your not from Ontario or some of the River systems in BC where you fish hand to hand with 100's of people
  12. It's if you are actively targeting bull trout within reasonable guidelines. Ie a fast sinking head line with a large streamer would lead to a fine if the warden observed your actions and believed you were targeting the species. If however you accidently hook into a bull trout like you did, you are require to immediately release the fish. There is also some rule that if you are consistently catching bulltrout from non-conventional methods(???) I think this means say your nymphing with a stone fly and are continually hooking bull trout that you are supposed to change setups.
  13. Was in troutfitters yesterday, they dont have any of the newer models with Vibram. However first time ive been in the new store and it is absolutely amazing. They have reallly dont an awesome job and the places looks amazing. Dustin
  14. There could be a multitude of reasons as to why this occurs. But i wouldnt stress, 3point is a large system and id just explore a little more even if it is on 3 point. As you said i had numerous 20+ fish days none bigger then 12" last season and would expect that at some point the trend will continue this year. Maybe a big brown has made his way up and is getting nice and fat
  15. Your both wrong......... ive heard conflicting reports that A) He choked on a small bone............ , and He died when he came home and found Macaulay Culkin in his bed Dustin p.s. im also going to hell but thats a resualt of actions long before this im just solidifying my position there
  16. a $3 fly will also stand up to numerous fish (most of the time) where a .99 falls apart after the 1st... So if your catching fish use $3 flies, if your catching bottom use .99cent flies. I personally lost around $40 of hooks on sunday nymphing during run off and consistantly getting hung up on bottom and submerged tree's ect... with 1 fist to hand. So yeah some days can be pretty expensive. Ive been known to climb up pine trees to retrieve lost hooks on certain days, hell whats a few scrapped up limbs compared to a $2.50 fly
  17. Just a quick rant, Got to test out my Hardy Demon 3 weight 7 foot rod for the VERY FIRST TIME today. Hooked into a small rainbow on the 4th cast on a creek and by small i mean under 12 inches and the first and slightest bend to the rod and SNAP like a clean break. Yep quite amazed that a rod from a company like hardy broke on the very first time it was used. Ive just emailed them as the rest of the night was ruined and i said i will not be paying ANYTHING for repairs on the rod even if it was bought at the end of last season and that they will be either giving me a FULL refund or be crediting me a new rod ASAP as i have a fishing trip planned in 2weeks. a very very pissed off Dustin
  18. The main concern is certain disease causing bacteria that can survive x number of days out of water and within the moisture of the felt, as well as certain plants which have been known to damage fresh water systems. However alot of the plant and algae are actually present and some are natural to area's in alberta. I personally dont think felt will be banned in alberta atleast not for a very long time, Felt is felt and will deteriorate im currently on boots with no felt as im waiting for my new waders to get in before i buy boots and do the river dance when ever im crossing slipery surfaces. I was thinking about getting simm's or cloudveil but the price is a concern.
  19. Well............... what weight/type of rod are we casting, what type of flex, what time is the casting comp what style of line.... come on mike i need to get into the proper mindset here!!! Oh and Rickr your going down!!! I personally think you should do it with a 8weight rod under weighted with a 3weight line..... Just my 2 cents
  20. Nice fish man, good job
