Only In Canada
hydropsyche replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Only in Canada would you have a prime minister (lawyer) present a bill of sale written on a dinner napkin and the RCMP ends up raiding the office of a bank as a result (*and* the guy goes on to win term after term (which results in other well known scandals)) Shawinigate -
Martin. Yup. I'm cheap and I also believe a reel is to hold line. The drag comes into play if you're fishing for permit but rarely do you need a high quality smooth $400 drag for fresh water fishing. The most expensive reel I have is a $200 Ross and I can't say I ever lost a fish because of the quality of the reel. (...waiting for the barrage of responses telling me how wrong I am.... )

I don't think anyone should say they caught an X incher if they didn't actually measure it. They should say an X'ish incher, indicating it was a guess or an inaccurate measurement. Its funny how what you think is an 17incher is actually 15. It can go both ways for me. One time I guessed a fish to be 23 only to discover it was 25. I use a tape only for my own benefit. There is no other way to tell for sure if a fish is a personal best.

Wow. Very impressive, guys. Doesn't matter who goes onto the next round, these are all top quality files and you should all be very proud.

Yeee Haa. Ride em, Cowboy!

"..and I am getting very rich...." The mean temp of the earth as not warmed since 1998 (according to some sources). Don't get me started..... What I have noticed and what seems to be apparent is that winter is starting later and lasting longer into the "spring". Checking my fishing logs from years past confirms this.

Brent, tie one of these. Less studying and fishing, more tying. Do you think Jerome is fishing right now?

Weight Forward...v.s...double Taper...
hydropsyche replied to beedhead's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Perfect. Thats what I'm talking about. I'll be looking into that. Thanks. edit: 55' of middle shooting line. Meets my needs even more Rio Line -
Weight Forward...v.s...double Taper...
hydropsyche replied to beedhead's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
If a DT is the same thickness as the front part of a WT, as Jim alludes to, then what we have it 30' of thick line followed by 60' of thinner shooting line. I rarely fish 90' of line. Maybe 60, but not usually. 30' of thick line followed by 30' of shooting line followed by 30' of thick line. It may limit my shooting capabilites but it might just meet my needs. Especially for nymphing. -

What I want to know is why the don't make WF lines with WF at both ends. That way, you can reverse the line when the front wears out just like a DT. Probably no mystery. Planned obsolesence. ($$$) If they did, I would buy one in a second. -
Complaint About Drivers And Their Tires..
hydropsyche replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I don't get it either, considering most albertans weren't even born here (me included). When we say "Alberta Drivers", we really mean "those who chose to move to Alberta drivers. My guess is its probably the same everywhere..... ps. Winter tires on my front wheel drive are still on. Usually come of after may long weekend. -
I'm glad you had a great time. There are a few people on this board who kinda like the Bow. Condoms, tampons, poop and the occasional body aside.
-
Nice job. I really like the "personal" co-ed type touch. Welcome to the club.

#2 & 8 look interesting too. Is that some type of hair or foam halfback? What is the body made of?

They have some beautiful pictures on there. I clicked on sponsors hoping to see mention of FlyFishCalgary. Not. I know 10 grand isn't much and maybe not sustainable, but maybe a mention in small font?

I just receive DBT Deadly Dozen and I just wanted you all to know how impressed I am with his tying skills. Those are some superb flies and very original. I'll be giving them a workout this weekend. I feel it was $40 very well spent. Thanks again, Andrew.

I have Polly's "Fuzzy Nymphs" right in front me right now. I was just reading about the casual dress last night. He used it for moving waters. Doesn't mention stillwaters at all. Thanks for posting about its effectiveness in those waters. BTW, is that muskrat back fur? It looks too light. I tied up some muskrat's and little stones for myself and LoneFisher. I already landed at least one fish on each, which is not too bad considering the amount of time they spent in the water. I'm very intrigued with the Nondescript. No you have any experience with that?

DBT. Looks nice....I'll take a box!

I'm out as well. I like the format this time around but I don't think I'll have the time.

How Much Is Marriage Worth?
hydropsyche replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Its a legal system, not a justice system. Don't get me started on the injustice of alimony in today's legal system. To me, there is only one true justice system, and that kicks in after you kick the bucket. -
DBT. I've just gotta say......I've never seen an emerger with a beedhead. Thats thinking out of the box. (Very nice tie, BTW)

Maybe they should call them Crackon. Just as addictive and just as expensive?
-
Its the first time I heard it!! Now, what was I doing during that time? Oh ya. Nothing but a couple dozen stinkin trout. I wish I was you.
-
I like the extended furled body. It will sit in the water with a splat and that full wing will keep it afloat. Like a real hopper. I've never seen a hopper pattern with an extended body. You may just have something there.

You tell vivid stories, RickR. I look forward to them. It brought back a memory and there is no way I could tell it as good as you, but here goes anyway. 4 of us into a 7 day backpack. Day 6, I believe. Heading toward Maligne Lake. We just hiked about 18k and were at our destination. A nice camp in a nice safe valley on a nice sunny day. It was still early, so some jerk (who's name I'm still trying to forget) suggests we try to make the next one. Only one pass away. The other two agree and since I'm out numbered, I reluctantly agree. About 2 hours later, we find ourselves at the top of that pass, with horizontal rain pelting us mercilessly, the tallest tree about knee high, with lightning flashing all around us. My only consolation during the whole ordeal was knowing that if I got struck, I wouldn't have known it. We all made it out alive. The rainbow was especially beautiful.
