  1. Lots of excellent choices here, I do like my Islander except it's a bit to flashy looking. Probably depends on your budget and tastes. I have a couple of Pflueger Presidents that I'm happy with for a solid reel that you can bang around. Though one of my fav's is still my old Hardy Marquis. Something about them old clickers.
  2. And of course ebay is a wipe with the lower dollar, mind you Canadian manufacturing is probably happy. You could also just buy the few Canadian made products.
  3. I think it would depend on your budget. The TFO rods are great an I fish my Deer Creek a lot. Loop and a few other manufacturers produce gorgeous rods. I'm just working on a Miser Highlander. Depends what you want and what your future use will be. Hard to own just one Spey rod.
  4. Great report and pictures, thanks so much for posting
  5. Have a great day and keep well.
  6. Doc's Hint: We all end up capturing the odd hair on the eye side of the hook. God knows my old eyes do it often enough. It certainly reduces with practice but for those odd ones after you tie off your whip finish and before head cement have a good quality pair of tweezers at hand and just pluck it out with a quick backwards pull. Tweezers for plucking eye brow hairs are perfect. Knew an old tier that did it with a heated bodkin tip for fully dressed Atlantic salmon flies.
  7. My wife says I'm certified. Or is that certifiable? Or maybe it was that I should be committed. Oh well that's what this sport does.
  8. Don't be discouraged, the Bow is a tough river to get to know. Just keep at at.
  9. Much better, I've raised 3 boys that are dear to me. BUT!!!!! Grand kids are great. You can give advice and it's listened to. You can visit and not change diapers, wake up of 3:00 feedings. You can spoil them and feed them candy, make then hyper and leave. They confide in you like they will not with Mom and Dad. I have a 4 year old grand daughter that dotes on me. Now a grandson to light up my life. Life is grand.
  10. More than likely see you there next meeting. A little something came up. My son had a little one so that was no: 1 for this Grandpa.
  11. Happy Birthday Gregg, Thanks for giving so much to the sport and the members here.
  12. Just thought I would post for those that might be interested, there is a meeting of the Calgary Hook and Hackle Club tonight. Meetings are the second and forth Wednesday of the month. Come and tie or not. Guests welcome to have a peek. I'll be there tonight so look for an old fart on a Nore-vice who tries to tie. Just starting to tie a few Steelhead hair wings.
  13. I think it breaks down to showing respect for the sport and the environment. Teach by example.
  14. Ah George Gershwin - Rhapsody In Blue. One of my favorites, purity in music. Loved it when I was young, Love it now.
  15. Great stuff Wes thanks for posting, makes me homesick for eastern waters.
  16. mind you it was a fun small trout fishery well before the golf course was built...
  17. Wouldn't it be funny if the Goverment was using this to gather phone numbers for their own CALL list. Call me paranoid.
  18. Cd's in my machine Deep Purple - in rock Beatles - Double White Fist Led Zeppelin II Rankin Family David Usher - Wake Up and Say Goodbye Jennie Laws - Introducing Doc Walker - Beautiful Life Creedance Clearwater - Woodstock
  19. Flies and hooks are sold throughout North America. Laws differ from place to place. Barb production is the way most machinery is geared. If you support a local tier you will get barbless, just ask.
  20. I went through a lot of suffering a couple of years ago. Terrible pain from tennis elbow (tendinitis) that translated to bad days at work as I am on a keyboard all day. You really have to examine how you are hurting yourself and change your casting methods and style to allow less stress. You will also need a healing time. My Doctor put me straight and explained where the stresses where for me. Mine changed over a one month period to completely disappearing.
  21. Come over to the dark side Luke!
  22. Haven't had much luck with patterns along this line had more luck with the other streamer patterns. Might make a good one for bull trout if that's what you're thinking. Wool is easier to build a head with than deer hair.
  23. Wow thanks for posting, great trip
  24. Come on down to the hook and hackle club next session. I should be there, good group of people.
