Looks like a great DVD.

I think what it breaks down to is personal reference. No one rod or casting style is perfect for everyone. It would depend on what type of water you fish and what presentation for the time of year you want to achieve. I know a lot of us will carry several rods at times to cover vastly different presentations of fly fishing. Get out there and try different rods, see what suits you. Those Spey gatherings have been fun to try a variety of rods.

I've put grass leaders together and they do work. I found they don't give your the amount of drag you get on the water though, maybe the ones I built didnt have stiff enough "prongs". Nice for going down to the park and giving someone a feel for a Spey rod though.

Are you filling the liquid lace with oil?. If so just knot the ends then tie in.

Dai-riki are great I also love Partridge They have a barbless series that is awesome. Don't tie with many Mustad any more. My customers really loved the Dai-riki Salmon and Steelhead hooks I tied on for them last season. Zero shears.

Doc's tip I spray all my dry flies and hoppers after I tie them with 3M Scotchguard. The stuff for waterproofing couches from spills. Water proofs the heck out of them. All flies do get water soaked after a few fish. Fish slime makes em sink. I like to wash all my dry flies in soapy water rinse then 3M again.

Good Idea, nobody likes to get flamed after spending hours writing and sharing.

Different species of insect hatches appear at vastly different times. Blue wing Olives for example like the cool spring and fall evenings. Drakes in summer mornings and evenings. I think it woud be hard to predict insect activity. I instead use my eyes, check out nearby bushes and shoreline to see what may be hatching. Turn over stones and check the local spider webs. I use my thermometer more to cue into trout activity. water temperatures from 50 to 60 degrees F ideal.

Whities can be a lot of fun this time of year. I've caught quite a few really large ones on dries.

Wash with a mid detergent to get clean, then wet em down with baking soda and water, works great. Whien i had neoprene i would fill em with warm water and add a box of baking soda. also works. Best is to give the waders and boots a rinse with a hose after every outing when you get back home. Also adds to the life of the products.

Got a pen and wrote it down, didn't help, really I tried. Maybe I need to repeat it on a black board like Bart Simpson. Perhaps I'll meet a "real fly fisherman" some day to teach me how to use my new and classic fly fishing gear. Some of us old timers learned classic dry, wet and streamer fishing from other old farts who passed down the knowledge, often like a religion. Been blessed to learn from old classic teachers and many modern masters. Hard to break this third generation fly fisherman of old habits though. Ah well too late now. Just have to totter my old bones down to river side with the bamboo rods and keep casting braces of classic wets, dappling pairs of dry spiders and casting pairs and single dries. It is highly dependent on the area (river lake stream etc). but from one to three. There are a great many different presentation systems that require vastly different presentation methods. as an example when targeting a rising wily trout in a still water situation a single dry fly is key. While fishing a brace (3) of wet flies at certain time of the year is a good bet. No method or presentation works always.

Happened to me in Ogdon, while heading to a fishing hole. Was lucky it was an older cop. Said what's the rush. I said the hatch was on the river and I forgot myself. He let me go with a warning.

End of the world, damm, gotta get out fishin tonight.

I also use an aquarium net. Small and compact. Stow away nicely. If I am wanting a good look at a run I've got a window screen as mentioned above.

The Hardy reels have my heart. Their song gives me a thrill and the promise of a fight. My Hardy's are now second generation. They are as tight and solid as the day they where bought. The Hardy Marquis Salmon 2 handled Steelhead with pride again last fall. I own an Islander that has also impressed me. Solid reel and well made. My pick for a moderately priced reel would be the Pflueger President. This is a great reel for the price.
