  1. Actually lost more than just the Perfect but a Hardy bag with a St. George and my Hardy Bamboo 5 wt. But still have a few Bamboos and Hardy's. Nice Angel, That's a keeper for life and to pass on. You'll love it.
  2. Most people who buy Hardy do so out of love of the product, the history and quality. Lots of tremendous manufactures these days making excellent products. Depends what you want, I love the click prawls, it's what I grew up on. Not for everyone. personal taste comes into it. The thread is addressed to Hardy fans.
  3. or a Hardy Bougle
  4. I've been watching and drooling over a Cascapedia on that site for over a week. there's a 2/3/4 for a mere $261.34. But picked up a couple of other things over the winter the puts me in no spend mode. Would loved to replace the Perfect 3" that was ripped off but it's out of my budget. Nice to dream though. by the way I have bought from Harris in the past with great service.
  5. Just want to thank everyone for stopping by the booth on Sunday, had a really good time chatting with a lot of great members. Looks like the show was successful. Great to drift around and see some of the exhibitors. Chatting with Whistlers guys and drooling over Hardy reels etc. Talking to the public in general, people really enjoyed the show. Lots of young lads and lassies with fly fishing stars in their eyes and dreams of big trout and tying fancy flies. Good for the sport. On a side note as I was driving to Spruce Meadows over the bow the river was looking like a giant slushie. So the show was a good bet.
  6. They don't actually say how they destroy weed by burning. Perhaps it's one joint at a time.
  7. Just to qualify that and put in perspective for those not familiar with auto bobbins, I would rather use my Nor auto bobbin than a standard bobbin. It is extremely well made. Though I often use a non auto for Salmon flies and special uses. Will most likely pick up a Ekich at some point this year but the nor auto is a great bobbin for the price. I have two nor autos and six spools and it serves me well.
  8. I like the first version of the video better Greg. It's closer to my Spey casting style.
  9. Love mine, will also have mine at the show on Sunday. Seems like people either love em or hate them depending on your tying style. The vice itself is only part of the system. To take advantage of the vice you should also have an auto bobbin, comes with some nor sets, separate in others. Either the Nor version of teh auto bobbin or the Ekich which I hear is very good. Always try before you buy.
  10. Had that also a couple of years ago. Definably see a doctor. It's what made me switch over to the Spey style of casting, double haul was killing me. I adopted a style that is more body movement oriented. I've been lucky to have the condition disappear over time. You may need to look at your casting style and revise it in some way. Before anything you need to heal it.
  11. Nice ties, those will be the ticket Max
  12. I also use frost bite {Krystal Flash works too} and floss. Also have had luck with v-rib and coated thread.
  13. Have a truely great day.
  14. Nope, don't tie hundred dollar flies, just the old Doc stuff but I'll tie you up a little something neat if you say Hi and pass over a few others..
  15. Fish Calgary booth on Sunday. Tying and chatting, Swing by and say Hi.
  16. I'm working the show Sunday, would love to play with these for a bit.
  17. I find Prismacolor markers come in a great color selection. Still have a lot form my pre computer days as a designer, last for years and years.
  18. Some of the old wet patterns where tied with variety of feathers. Often with primary or secondary feathers for different looks. They where usually duck, turkey, or goose sometimes married of different colors to achieve a pattern. They also used the flank feathers of duck, teal, mallard, and wood duck from various parts of the body. Old plates are usually pretty accurate, photo reproduction was in it's infancy in those days and didn't get good color reproduciton. Give me a shout if you need more info.
  19. Very cool, I love tying classic wets. Worth while project. I too ran through one plate of "Trout" a number of years ago. Ended up fishing most of them. One of these winters I'd like to do enough for a good display. Nice catalog page by the way.
  20. Actually no the Ari ‘t Hart reels are out of my league. Brother in law in BC has one, incredible piece of machinery. This one on the Deer Creek is a is a Airflo Balance. 911W. nice large arbor with great balance on the rod. It has a sealed drag that's very nice. Put it through it's paces over the last year and quite like it. Interesting design. What I really like about it is the way it's set up for palming both rims for better control while playing fish. Decent reel, great capacity wasn't expensive, lots of bang for the buck, probably a sleeper that will disappear from the market.
  21. If I was to fish that area again a Spey rod would definably be on the agenda without question.
  22. I'm no expert but I would go with an minimum 8 or 9 weight. Those bruisers will give you a run for you money. A 7 weight might be a tad light, although I've seen a couple 7's that should have been rated 8ths. The thing is out there you never know what you are going to run in to. You want to be able to control the fish. Don't forget large arbor reel with lots of backing.
  23. Not the highest end system here but a great mid trout Spey rod. Have really enjoyed throwing flies and nymph rigs with the little Deer Creek 5/6. Had a ball with skid bitch and Stimulators last fall. Throws a nice Rio windcutter, a variety of Skagit and Scandia lines. Have had a ton of fun with this rod and coaxed the odd Trout and Steelhead to net. It's been a great rod and a lot easier on the old body and sholders than the big fly rods. My Tennis elbow disappeared.
  24. Mind you another reason to put together a rod is to get the components on it that you want. Like a custom reel seat or handle in exotic wood and better guides and the like. That's why I've assembled a few for myself (assembled as opposed to built, I just assemble, Don actually builds em).
  25. I got my last batch of anti static bags from a small computer repair place down the street from where I work (any computor shop that installs memory should have em.). The bags are for shipping memory etc. I asked him to save me some discards and got 4. They go a long way. I just slice a bunch thin strips off with an exacto knife as I need them. They make for very translucent looking bodies.
