  1. [quaI find if you use wax it will change the color and texture of the dubbing. I only like it if your need to do touch dubbing for classic wets.
  2. It depends completely on the type of dubbing. Different dubbing needs a different approach. Nice fine dry fly dubbing twists on nicely, you can form a dubbin "noodle" or feed it on the thread. With a more course material i have a bit of water at hand to control it. and Like Flytyer said if you want a spiky effect a dubbing loop is required. Give me a shout sometimes and we'll get together and I'll run you through the way I do it. Got to get through all the Steelhead flies I need to do for clients first.
  3. Gorgeous little stream, love those little gems.
  4. Looks like you had a great day thanks for posting, you make my morning.
  5. With the grand kids that are about that age I find the following handy Choose a spot close to home that has restrooms. Make the trip in the morning on a sunny day, and limit fishing to about an hour between breaks. Take snacks and cold drinks with you and a coloring book (nature related). Have the kids take breaks from fishing and give em a minnow net and pail to have fun. Life jacket that fits. Pack a first aid kit. Bring a hat and sunglasses. I often go to the dollar store and pick a few fun things up to occupy them when the fishing bug fades, which is usually pretty quick. Don't count on fishing yourself, this is an adventure for the little ones and don't forget that. My own very fine arsenal includes, the Shakespeare Princess and Barbie Fishing Kits, and of course the ever present Batman Backpack Fishing Kit.
  6. You only fish for 9 Hours?
  7. Bought one of these from you, It's now my go to Steelhead box. I love it.
  8. She has indeed seen water and fish and her performance has made her my new love. She took several rainbows up to 18 inches swinging wet flies, nothing over 20 as yet but then the small dry fly hatches have taken my time lately with my trout bum and several bamboo's as preference. She has sat quietly and most patently in her case waiting for the colder weather when she and I will spend some quality time together. She's a champ and royalty in my book.
  9. Don't mind at all, had a few people ask me to post it on various forums. received some nice comments form Bob Meiser about it.
  10. My brother in law picked on up last year. The 10'6 System-4. I only had the opportunity to try it for about a couple of hours last spring. A honey of a rod. Grain window of 250-400. I''m contemplating picking one up this winter. Bob Meiser puts out this series in a few different grain weights.
  11. This is excellent, kudos to all involved.
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong but the research seems to point out that anywhere fish farming takes hold the sea lice follow and stocks of fry collapse. We certainly need research into this.
  13. You would not go wrong with either of the two.
  14. I didn't vote cause my favorite makers aren't listed. Don Anderson rods (I know I know, this isn't a bamboo vote but I can't help it) Loop and Meiser Rods.
  15. The bow has always been considered a mid to expert fishery. That said it does become easier one you get some rules down. What are they eating, are you deep enough if nymphing, do you have a drag free presentation. I would not presume to tell you how to fish but there is a wealth of great advice if you search for it on this forum. You might want to check out the piece in featured articles by pacreseltoro who did a nice "Nymph Fishing Primer" to get you pointed in the right direction. By the way don't discount any area of the Bow. Some of my favorite waters is where others discount. have fun
  16. I grabbed a Bum a couple of weeks ago, Went down to SouthBow, (great shop by the way if you haven't visited it yet do so). Tested a number of rods. The ones that stood out where the Loop Opti Creek a honey of a rod especially matched with the Opti creek line, which I believe the Trout Bum would love. Slightly out of my budget but on my list. Tried the Loop Trout Bum and instantly fell in love. Bought it on the spot. As I was telling Wolfie it seems to have a healthy grain window. It loves Rio lines and lays a nice dry with a Sylk line. Was dropping dries inches from snouts the other night without spooking. This is one hell of a rod. Dave was saying they are trying to find a few more before they finally disappear. So if you want one...
  17. don't know but I want one.
  18. Wonderful close us.
  19. That's interesting Speyghillie, I always wondered what drop down rings where used for, scratched my head on that one. Look forward to reading the Alexander Grant stroy you are working on.
  20. Safer for your health also, to just buy another bottle, acetone is not a friendly chemical. I've kept away form it and my kids don't have wings or webbed toes.
  21. I really like the Vision Ace, yes it's a Scandinavian taper, gives me a nice tight loop, on Sunday I was tossing skid bitches then later added a 14' a sink tip poly leader with cone head buggers with no problems firing them out there.
  22. I'm tossing a 350 grain Vision ace at 31 ft off my Meiser Highlander. Often add a 12' sink tip. also use a chopped Rio Windcutter at 28 ft running at 325 grains that work well along with a 400 Rio Skagit for those windy days to punch through wind. These also work well on the Deer Creek.
  23. Look for wide gap dry fly hooks like Diachi 1110. I don't like too long a shank as it provides leverage for the fish to throw the hook.
  24. Tell her she has a nice "style".
