  1. Yes but the real question is "Do you have a tweed sports coat". You cannot be an elitist and fish dries without a tweed coat and Hardy equipment.
  2. summer nights..........
  3. Are you making fun of my tweed sports coat.
  4. If you have a bobbin with a nick in the pipe you can try to work it out with emery cloth or crazy glue a glass bead to the tip, it will get you by for a while.
  5. I'm an uncouth non-professional, so I fish Dry flies Wet flies Nymphs and Streamers. I also scratch my head when I hear the term "Wet flies" used here. As far as I have ever known wet flies are a class of flies, (covering winged wets, wingless wets and flymphs) not any fly that is fished under the water.
  6. I usually just tie an overhead knot in 140, split and spin, works great and less bulk.
  7. Benecchi is very nice thread and quite strong for the size. Lots of great threads out there, depends what you're tying, if your need a thread that you have to put a lot of pressure on, or for a specific purpose. Have a few threads that fill different needs. I quite like UTC Ultra, just bought a couple of dozen in 70 & 14 Denier. Lies very flat without bulk, lot of guys use it for full dress salmon flies. I also buy a lot of Gutermann, along with pearsalls Silk for tying with. All for different tying situations. Good idea to try out a variety of various threads to see what suits your tying style and needs.
  8. I have the Brodin Ghost and love it. Mind you I only use it on the odd unruly fish or to rest one after a good battle not on every one.
  9. Sounds like a plan in the coming weeks
  10. It's model airplane push rod from PM hobby in Calgary on 32nd, comes in a few different diameters. Flexes a bit but not a lot. Want to make another one slightly different that I have an idea about "the boy" has claimed this one.
  11. When I first bought mine I was very apprehensive of the grip. I stared at it in the store (I bought mine at Southbow) and thought this thing isn't going to work for me at all. But I though I could redo the grip with new cork... until I fished it. I really love the composite cork and rubber, proved it's worth on a cold rainy day with good comfort. Definably a sleeper rod. Mind you I wold really like to get a 3 wt opti creek next.
  12. Beyond my budget but beautiful.
  13. I fished my 5 wt last summer and it's a sweet rod. Loved it for nymphing and big dries. Loved the grip.Let me know if you hit Staffer.
  14. The Petijean whip finisher is my go to finisher, my very favorite general one.
  15. It's tough to find good wide finishers and I also don't care for hand whipping, not as precise, for me anyway although I whipped by hand for 15 years. This is a home made jobie. Use it a lot for mid bodies on Steelhead and Salmon flies. My oldest steals it too much though. You could use this as a guide to make one. I'll shape the next one slightly differently although this one does work well. Been meaning to ask one of the local bamboo rod makers to send me some scraps to make a full set. Wire is from the hobby shop. It is six inches from hook to holder.
  16. A lot of things collapsed last year. The blanks are the original Grey series, they are quite nice. (edited, slip of the key)
  17. tip; add a couple of layers of thread to the needle to snug up the tube when you put it on.
  18. If you post the description of the rods you need lined I think it would give us a better idea what to suggest.
  19. Just happened to notice a lot of Loop AEG Series Fly Rods on the bay. Just posting in case anyone is interested, not an endorsement or connected with Loop in any way. I'm sure Max will wade in on an overview on these rods. Spacifically Loop AEG Series 590-3 9' 5wt 3pc. Perhaps a new series of rods are coming out.
  20. You can use a stick pin and needles but they can be a hassle, cut off the eye of a hook and it will work. A few companies including Snowbee, Falkenberg, HMH and a few others put out a Tube Fly Tool that fits into your vice jaws. Not very expensive and far superior.
  21. that's excellent, I'll be checking it out.
  22. Actually that does work great but the metal components are better from tube companies.
  23. Qtips are a good way to experiment before moving to proper tubes. You can melt the ends slightly to stop the risk of cutting the line. In the end proper tube components are really the best.
  24. I agree, going with a balanced combo in the first place gets you farther ahead. Looks like more junk to contend with that will eventually take up valuable land fill.
  25. I remember seeing in the 2009 Partridge of Redditch catalog they had 6 & 8 piece fly rods and 12 piece Salmon Travel Fly Rods. Nice compact package.
