  1. Thanks for posting the report, nice to see the patrols and actions. Fines at the discretion of the officer at the scene. I like warnings, nice first step not like they where caught poaching.
  2. It's the UV that does it. I keep all my materials in closed boxes and file folders away from the light. Have 30 year old capes that are fine (one from the 50's as a matter a fact). I think it also depends on the quality of materials and how the original manufacturer treated the materials (or lack of). I try to keep my materials in original packaging but have some fur pelts that are fine after many years. I have gotten capes that look badly treated and strip all the feathers off just in case
  3. I tie my damsels on mono also.

That fly staring out of the pikes mouth is a hoot.
  5. Had a blast last Sunday morning piking with the Spey in a small lake. Lost count of the number of hammer handles I tempted with a bunny leech. The double handler was ideal.
  6. I've been using a Ghillie vest for about 5 years now. it's great with the larger backpack. Still in great shap after dozens of washes (some not intentional).Still use an Orvis cotton one that I received form the folks in the late 60"s. Have a few. Often for a quick day trip I use a wicker creel. Just the right size for a few fly boxes. Keeps the pop cold. Mind you it draws CO's like flies to honey. I think whatever you go for try one on so that the fit is good and comfortable.
  7. Click on the blog link here or below to read my take on fly tying.
  8. It is cheaper in the long run BUT IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE FOR YOU. There is a learning curve and an investment in tools and materials. I did write an article on that a while back and I'll look for it and post it. Good way to try it out is get together with a tier, take a course or drop into the Hook and Hackle fly fishing club to have a look. You can start cheap to give it a try.
  9. This guy takes realistic to the next level. Here
  10. Thanks for posting this, it speaks volumes about the depth and heart of this Nation. May she never change.
  11. If that's what it says, that's what it means.
  12. I've been throwing the the 5/6 TFO Deer Creek for a couple of years now. Great rod for the price. Designed for TFO by Bob Meiser who has designed some of the most superb Spey rods out there. Also you can't beat the warranty.
  13. Mind you not this weekend but last fall a few times I drove the Motorhome up to a spot on a Thursday night (a four hour evening return drive on a work day) and book for 4 days. The campground owner is always fine with that, as I book in advance by phone and he keeps an eye on my rig. Saved us the set up time and the wife has a bad back, this way I can drive her up in the comfy truck instead of the motorhome. We rented a campground in BC years ago a year at a time. Look at Windermere and the Shuswap where you can also book blocks of time. It is after all supply and demand and we have a lot more people in Alberta now. You can buy a service and use it when you want. I can after all book a spot and not go. It's still mine because I paid for the service, the service is available to me if I use it or not. In the same campground and one that I have used in BC there are people who book the entire summer block. If you can afford it why not. I agree it is abused in certain instances - but that is economics. If I owned a campground I would love it if people booked large blocks of time, and would certainly be upset if someone passed a law that sid yo could only book in my campground if you where physically staying there. I can't count the times when I drove to a campsite only to find it full but your make contingency plans after all.
  14. Well said.
  15. Wow looks to be a nice piece of ammonite. Very nice find. Yo must have been in the southern eastern part of the province
  16. Wonderful, nice seeing the brookie.
  17. Excellent, Humble, we need more people stepping forward to report these lawbreakers and protect our waters. I did 12 reports to the rap office last season.
  18. I grew up in a fly fishing family (Father and Grandfather) so I had a fly rod in my hand from age 5. Thus the number of years fishing. Dad bought me a bamboo rod at birth which I incidentally still have and fish. Most kids had a paper route, I tied flies for the local fishing shop. Weird childhood.
  19. Very good work, congratulations and kudos to you.
  20. Damn, now the news is going to pick it up and call it Fly Fishers Flu and shut down all the Fly Shops.
  21. Had an experience while fishing a high mountain lake in the Interior of BC. Big big thunder buster blew in, with ominus black clouds. Brother in law and I rowed for shore. We where just disassembling our fly rods when his started to make a clicking sound. sparks where arcing visibly between the guides. We dropped our rods right there. You could feel the static in the air. We beat it into the bush with rain and hail following us. Funny thing was he quickly leaned it against a fallen tree. When the storm cleared we went back to fishing. He swears the action of the rod changed after that and never used it again. It had small white score marks under the guide windings so something happened to it. We always stow graphite rods now when the sky starts to boil.
  22. Look for young birds when checking for good hackle.
  23. I had a few requests to add recipes for the wets.
